UFC 62 - Three New Fights
July 31st, 2006 | by Dr J
Three new fights have been announced for the upcoming UFC 62: Liddell vs. Sobral card.
- Thiago Alves Vs. Josh Neer - Alves lost his last fight to Jon Fitch at UFN 5 while Josh Neer lost his last fight at UFC 61 to Josh Burkman. Weird to see Neer fighting in back-to-back PPV events, especially since he lost; but the UFC needs to recycle these fighters due to the huge number of shows they are having.
- Wes Combs Vs. Wilson Gouveia - Wes Combs lost his last fight to Mike Nickels at The Ultimate Fighter 3 finale and Wilson Gouveia lost his last fight to Keith Jardine at the same TUF 3 finale.
- Cory Walmsley Vs. David Heath - Both Cory Walmsley and David Heath will be making their first UFC appearances.
These fights are pretty sad. The August 17 Ultimate Fight Night card is looking better to me than the current UFC 62 card. Four fighters who lost their last fights and two unknown MMA fighters. Way to go UFC.
These three fights are in addition to the already announced fights of Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar II, David Terrell Vs. Yushin Okami, and Chuck Liddell vs. Renato Sobral for the Light Heavyweight title.

Cory Walmsley Vs. David Heath could be a barn burner…you never know. My money is on Heath because I enjoy heath candy bars.
Plus I will argue forever that Forrest won his last fight.
Ah yes, the controversial Forrest vs. Tito decision.
Either way, Tito will blow through Bonnar at this point. Bonnar has no business fighting on a PPV card, but then again neither do most of these guys.
I will say this, being a huge “CHUCK MARK”, I would buy UFC 62 if the only televised bout was Chuck/Babalu. I believe at this point, Chuck is so popular, that his name alone will sell tickets/ppv buys.
You are absolutely correct and the UFC knows this as well. Chuck will sell tickets and this PPV will get buys just like all the others.
I just wonder what’s going to happen after Babalu submits Liddell!
A million TUF fanboys will simultanioulsy lose bowel control.
Unless Chuck forgets how to sprawl it will never happen.
