I guess its a good thing that Thomas Gerbasi at UFC.com wrote that “rematch” article a few weeks ago. It appears that Dana White has confirmed that the UFC has a verbal agreement from both Tito Oritz and Ken Shamrock for a third fight between the fighters that is scheduled to take place on October 10.
The guys over at WrestlingObserver.com reported today that:
Dana White just confirmed to us this morning that he’s gotten verbal agreements to terms from both Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock for a 10/10 fight on a Spike TV special. The show will likely be held at the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood, FL.
As of now the fight is possibly going to take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., although it appears the UFC may be having some difficulty securing the location for the event. Luckily for those of us who are in the habit of buying the UFC Pay-Per-View events, this fight card is going to take place on a SpikeTV special event.
A lot of fans felt somewhat cheated by the controversial “quick stopage” at UFC 61, and at least no one will have to pay to see this absolutely pointless Ortiz vs. Shamrock III event. There is absolutely no reason for this fight to happen, other than Shamrock’s huge ego and Ortiz’s desire to have another fight before he gets a title shot.
I’m sure there are plenty of you who want to see this fight happen, so please leave a comment and let me know why you do, because I just don’t understand it. For those of you who agree with me, leave a comment as well and give you two cents on why this fight is a joke.

I have no problem with Tito fighting Live on Spike…
I have no problem with Ken fighting Live on Spike…
I do have a problem with Tito fighting Ken on Spike…
It would be different in my world if the score was 1-1. But as we all know, Tito owns Ken. Nobody wants to see this. There is literally a million other fights I’d rather see than this one.
If the UFC were smart, they would have saved Forrest to have a rematch with Tito on Spike. That would draw record ratings.
I’m rarely critical of the UFC and I’m a huge fan of “the rematch” but this is just pure crap.
This fight shouldn’t happen. Ken could have walked away with some dignity still left by the controverssial decision. He’s giving Tito another chance to destroy him before an unprecedented TV audience. No good can come of this fight. Thank the mma gods it’s not being put on a PPV card.
Are you kidding me? This is the best they can come up with? At least it won’t be a PPV event like the last one. Hopefully this will finally put the “World’s Most Dangerous Man” to sleep once and for all.
Just like I thought. Not one person thinks this is a good idea… Except for Dana “Diaper” White and his pocket book.
Don’t knock Dana. He’s smart. He knows they will earn a ton off advertising. People will watch and it will amount to record numbers for the UFC and Spike TV and once Chuck defeats Babaloser (and it will happen, don’t kid yourself people), it will be a GREAT way to promote Chucko vs Wandy, especially seeing as how the majority of new UFC fans have no clue who Silva is, other than he lost to Tito once.
I’m a business man and from a business aspect, this is a home run for the UFC. I don’t like it and frankly I don’t have to like it. Bottomline is, you may hate this match up…but I can promise you that everyone will still watch it. The OG MMA fans are addicted to MMA like crack, so we will watch. The new fans will tune in because it’s a big name fight. Hell I know of wrestling fans who will only watch the UFC if Shamrock is fighting. When you combine all those elements, its a huge win and a smart business move.
I think we all agree that this is a smart move marketing wise since this fight will be free on SpikeTV. A record number of viewers is very likely.
You also bring up a good point, Jason. I hadn’t thought of the marketing angle for Chuch-Wandy yet. Blasting out a commercial promoting that potential fight during a Tito-vs-Shamrock live event would be like killing two birds with one stone.
what a joke, i’ll watch it cause its free but this will be a quick KO for tito followed by 20 minutes of ken talking trash about how he wasn’t out of it as blood trickles down his face.
Hopefully Ken will at least last a few minutes this time, so his face will look like it did after their first fight. I always love seeing golf balls under guys foreheads.
I JUST WANT THIS THING TO HAPPEN IN FLORIDA, FINALLY WE GET SOME ACTION DOWN HERE. !!!
I for one am looking foward to this fight big time!
I was pissed after the last fight. I dropped 40 bucks for the fight and threw a huge party for my friends who were not as familiar with the UFC as i am. I felt jipped! I doubt that they will ever become fans of MMA after that night. It left a sour taste in their mouths. I know this fight won’t change that, but at least it’s free and maybe I’ll get to see Tito give Ken a true beating this time.
I dont care what channel they are on as long as they fight in florida.
One thing is for sure I will not miss this fight and neither will any of you who bad mouth Dana’s choice for setting up number three. So after the fight you all can write your comments about how bad or good the fight was and the UFC will rack in some big ratings for spike.
I don’t know why everyone has to whine about oh we have to see Ken fight Tito again, I’m a Ken Shamrock fan and I know what the man is capable of. If anyone has seen the Ken Shamrock vs Don Frye fight in pride which should’ve been a decision win for Ken despite the judges. He controlled Frye on the ground broke his ankle, and took a bigger beating than Tito came close to giving him in the second fight. Shamrock has no quit in him when it comes to Tito Ortiz. I think that this has the potential to be a good fight, it was a good fight the first time. I don’t know why everyone bashes on Shamrock either he was one of the first rounded fighters the ufc had ever seen he could stand up and he could take it to the ground and break anything on you. If you look at the fujita fight Shamrock sprawled and brawled and dominated him until he got gassed out. Shamrock is getting old but he’s not one to be taken lightly. People preach about him losing to Franklin also, look at Rich Franklin now he’s something like 22-1 in MMA that’s incredible and has beaten people like Evan Tanner and David Loiseau and Nate Quarry who are excellent fighters, Franklin is a fighting machine. There’s no reason to bash on Shamrock he’s done a lot for the sport and it probably wouldn’t be where it is right now if it wasn’t for guys like him and gracie. And as for calling Babalu “Babaloser” he went 7-0 before facing chuck and 10-0 before facing him again the man is an incredible fighter and he’s beaten some of the best including fighters like Shogun.
[...] This weeks award goes to Shamrock Fan 707 for his comment in the Ortiz - Shamrock III post: I don’t know why everyone has to whine about oh we have to see Ken fight Tito again, I’m a Ken Shamrock fan and I know what the man is capable of. shamrock is done. Tito will beat him for the 3rd time
ken is gonna come through on this one, and upset tito in the first round
I’m know I would’nt pay for it , thats for sure. Since its on Spike I’ll watch it and so will all you winners out there. I hope Shamrock decides to train a little harder because I would love to see him pound Tito’s little ***.
shamrock fan, you make some good points, ken has done alot for mma and he IS getting old. The problem with shamrock is not that hes getting old, the problem is that hes an obsolete fighter. He still fights like he used to, hes a warrior, but he isnt interested in expanding his repertoire technically speaking. You cant teach an old dog new tricks.
Dana white is a pimp! str8 up, hes made some mistakes, but everyone does, i think by commercializing the UFC, hes made way more money and way more of an impact than any other mma organization has in the past. The new fan base also will make more kids want to be fighters, instead of basketball players, dana white is the man in my book.
Shamrock has a punchers chance.. period.
I like both Ortiz and Shamrock, I just hope it’s a decent fight and no one is embarassed. If Ken loses, he should retire, he has been a credit to the sport.
I’ll be watching..
