Brandon Vera vs. Frank Mir at UFC 65

Frank Mir vs Brandon Vera at UFC 65

Stephan Marceau over at FightOpinion.com was the first to note the upcoming fight between Brandon Vera and Frank Mir. FightOpinion.com lists the fight as coming at the upcoming UFC 62, however the BrandonVera.com homepage says the fight will happen at UFC 65.

Brandon Vera vs. Frank Mir (former UFC Heavy Weight Champion)

To me this really doesn’t seem like much of a contest for Vera, as Frank Mir has looked absolutely atrocious since returning from his leg injury. A terrible showing against Marcio Cruz and an equally terrible, out-of-shape performace against Dan Christison at UFC 61.

Stephan puts it nicely:

What I read in this mismatch is that maybe the UFC was not too happy with Frank’s last performance and would set him free after this — like they did to Paul Buentello.

Being a fat man myself (5′10″-290 ish) I’m going to pull for my fellow fat brother Mir. However…like most fat asses, he will gas very quickly and Vera will probably win in under 2 minutes.

I will predict the first 14 seconds of the fight will be great, which is the point where Mir will gas out.

My only fear is that Frank’s water might break in the first round and little Francisco Santos Mir IV may be born live on Pay Per View

I heard that they may induce labor after the weigh ins.

The only Mir will win this is if he mistakes Vera’s head for a jelly dougnut.

if mir can get his conditioning in order and eat correctly which is something he hasn’t done since his return, 1 fight he said he didnt condition and then he said he conditioned better but didnt eat right for the next one, it could be good. i happen to be a big fan of vera so i wanna see him stomp mir, but i think mir knows if he ***** this up the ufc may not give him another contract, so i have to expect mir to have his stuff together and i think he’ll be impressive and lose a decision.

mir said he didnt have his conditioning down for his first fight back and he had to hold back because of his leg and then his last fight he said he was training so hard that he ate whatever he wanted. if he can get his conditioning down and eat correctly i expect him to put up a very good fight, if mir doesnt submit him in the first round i think vera will KO him in round 2. it’s funny how quickly people forget how good he was with submissions before his accident.

I haven’t forgotten how good Mir was or how could he can be. If you search around on this site, you will see I was a very vocal Frank Mir supporter until his last fight. No one would like to see him return to the same form he was at pre-accident than I would, but I’m not going to just assume that he will anymore.

Mir’s got to show me and a lot of other people that he wants to return to that fighter before I just give him the credit based on past performances.

I am a big, big fan of Brandon Vera and I used to be a huge fan of Frank Mir until, I saw his last two poor performances. I agree with you guys. Mir has got to get past this injury and get in better shape if he’s thinking of taking on anyone! Much less a huge up and comer like Brandon Vera, or he will never have a shot of winning back his title. He would have a very slim chance of beating Vera, if he could barely get past Tuf 2 fighter Dan Christianson. Although I do hear that his training is going well and he’s losing alot of weight! P.S. Does anyone know when Tim Sylvia is planning to fight Jeff Monson?

Have you guys not seen Frank Mir lately? Its august now, and frank seems to be in very good condition atm. Whether he still is in UFC65 is another question, but if he stays in this condition it will be a very good fight. I beleive VEra will be submitted in round 2

I think that Mir will get beat if it goes past the 1st. Mir was one of my favorite awhile ago. I think Vera is “The Truth” and want to see him drop down to 205. Personally I wish they would have made it Vera vs Arlovski. I like him but want Vera to get the **** beat out of him so he has the 1 MMA loss that makes you re-focus and set atainable goals. I vote Vera for the win and Yes it was stated on the Mir website: They will induce labor before the weigh ins!

Frank Mir was always a great fighter. Everyone is saying if he gets into shape like before he would win. From the first time i ever saw frank mir, he had a problem with endurance, he always used to gas even at his original level of conditioning people remember. Now that hes in even worse shape than usual, it really hurts him in this fight or in any fight. I personally dont think hes very serious about it, its probably just a paycheck. He has other stuff going on probably, cuz hes obviously not training and sacrificing like other fighters. The injury is the nail on the coffin, on top of the fact that he doesnt train to his maximum potential, now he has another excuse to slack off.

But, hes still frank mir, anything can happen. I got my money on Vera on this one, im sure his team will be advising him to make mir miss and struggle for takedowns to gas his out fast..

Before you make any comments about Frank Mir you need to do some research, watch all his fights, and even look into his personal life. After recovering from his injury completely one of his best friends died and he was obviously depressed in the ring. Did anybody see him beat Brock Lesnar and Tim Silvia are you kidding me he is one of the best their ever was he has the best submission ability of any heavyweight. He is in better shape now as of the Brock Lesnar win. Hes anything but fat he has been facing unreasonable heavyweight opponents and always wins. Vera is not near as great as Mir you are all fools.

haha, for real.

Where were all the Mir fans when he lost to Pe de Pano? Funny how now he is on TUF and suddenly folks have been his fan for life!
