Reports are surfacing that the Middleweight Title fight between Matt Hughes and Georges St. Pierre scheduled for UFC 63 may be postponed.
BettorMMA.com initially reported that:
An Oddessa employee out of Calgary has reported that Georges St. Pierre suffered a serious elbow injury in training and is more than likely out of his UFC 63 Welterweight Title shot against Matt Hughes. The Oddessa source said that there is a 90% chance the fight is off and even if it goes through lines have been affected dramatically due to the serious nature of the injury. Pinnaclesports.com has already taken the fight off the boards and is waiting an official announcement fron the St. Pierre training camp.
BettorMMA.com later updatd their story to say St. Pierre had injured his hamstring and not his elbow as they initially reported. Later in the day, Sherdog.com posted an article stating that St. Pierre had injured his groin on August 3 and later notified the UFC of the injury on August 10.
St. Pierre has not officially pulled out of the fight at this point. St. Pierre’s manager said Georges is currently at 95% and will know by Wednesday whether or not he can compete. If St. Pierre cannot compete in the September 2th card, Matt Hughes camp has said that the UFC is working on alternate fighters, including a possible rematch between Matt Hughes and B.J. Penn.

[...] Personally, I wanted to see St. Pierre fight Hughes again, and judging from our poll earlier, 2-out-of-3 of you thought that St. Pierre would win the UFC Welterweight belt. If he’s not at 100% though, I’m glad St. Pierre pulled out. I only want to see him fight when he can fully perform. I’m sure this is a huge disappointment, and if Penn beats Hughes and wins the belt the UFC has a peculiar situation. They now have a Welterweight champion who became the champ after losing his previous fight to the #1 contender for the belt he now holds. [...]
