MMAWeekly.com’s radio show broke the new yesterday that Yves Edwards has been released from the UFC. I’m still trying to get more details on the story, but it appears that Edwards is no longer under UFC contract. Yves was rumored to be fighting Justin James at the upcoming UFC 64, but has been somewhat disappointing in his return to the UFC lightweight division where he dropped losses to Mark Hominick at UFC 68 and Joe Stevenson at UFC 61.
I hate to see Yves go, but I think this is a good move for him. After his two losses, it would be quite a while before Yves even got close to a title fight in the talent-heavy UFC lightweight division. I don’t think Yves is interested in fighting lesser name fighters to climb his weigh up, and there is more money in other promotions for him.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he is signed by the WFA to kickstart their lightweight division, or if the new Bodog.net promotion throws decent money at him to bring in a big name fighter. Another possibilty is the new World Fighter Championships who recently signed Frank Shamrock, Clayton Guida, Nick Diaz, and Jake Shields.

yea man, my boy will be sad to see yves leave the UFC. Hes his favorite fighter in the division, tho hes been having some bad luck lately. Nick dias too! also a great fighter, fought some tough fights and has been getting hammered lately. I hope these results dont discourage them at all, parysian has been in a bit of a slump too. Regardless tho, i will watch any fight they have no matter what organization its in, or who their opponent is.
Looks like hes coming back strong with a big win in EliteXC
