There hasn’t been much action or press from the World Fighting Alliance since their debut show in September, but MMAWeekly.com broke news today that the WFA has signed Heath “Texas Crazy Horse” Herring to a contract.
Herring signed a four-fight, sixteen-month contract that will bring him back to fight in the USA for the first time since 1999. No official opponent has been named but Herring doesn’t mind.
I don’t have an opponent yet, but I’m just happy to be able to say I have a fight again. It’s been seven months since my last fight so I’m excited and I can’t wait [to fight again.] …
“I actually called Quinton [Jackson] up and asked him about these guys. He said they were good guys, so that helped,†explained Heath.
“I know Jeremy Lappen, who is CEO of the company, and I think there are some intelligent people behind the company that know what they are doing. There’s also some major players involved so it looks like a good deal,†added Herring.
“There’s going to be a bunch of Southwest flights coming up full with a bunch of rednecks,†concluded Herring with a chuckle. “It’ll be fun; I’m looking forward to it, cowboy hats and air horns [in the crowd] probably.â€
Herring has only fought in Pride and K-1 since 2000, and should boost the WFA’s fight lineup quickly.
Herring is scheduled to make his WFA debut on December 9 in Las Vegas. Quinton Jackson and Urijah Faber are also scheduled to fight on the card, according to WFA CEO Jeremy Lappen.
