UFC 66: Liddell vs Ortiz 2 Recap

December 31st, 2006

Well, the last UFC of 2006 is in the books and I think overall the PPV was a very good card. The coming year should provide some of the best MMA fight cards we have ever seen, and UFC 66 was a nice way to cap off 2006. Here are my thoughts on a few [...]

UFC 66 – Preview

December 28th, 2006

This Saturday night in Las Vegas, UFC 66: Liddell vs. Ortiz 2 will take place and overall the fight card looks very promising. Of course, the main even between Liddell and Ortiz has been anticipated ever since Tito’s return to the UFC was announced. Well, the waiting is over, and this Saturday night the fight [...]

UFC 67 Will Be Excellent

December 28th, 2006

UFC 67, scheduled for February 3, 2007 (Super Bowl Weekend) was already looking like one of the best UFC cards ever: GSP vs. Matt Serra, Anderson Silva vs. Travis Lutter, Quinton Jackson vs Marvin Eastman, etc.. Now, it looks like UFC 67 will take an even bigger step up. It is widely expected that at [...]

Chuck or Tito… who will win?

December 27th, 2006

Very simple question:

Ever since the UFC’s purchase of the WFA and its fighter contract, we have been speculating on when Quinton Jackson would make his UFC debut and who he would fight. We recently received confirmation that his debut would be at UFC 67 but his opponent was still unknown. Last week, I posted the possibility that [...]

UFC Christmas Greeting

December 21st, 2006

I’m sure many of you received the same email, but this is just so awful I had to share it with those who didn’t. The UFC sent out an email today with a nice little “Christmas Greeting.” This graphic has to be one of the worst things I have seen in a while. It looks [...]

Some Nick Diaz Love

December 20th, 2006

Just wanted to keep everyone updated with Nick Diaz’s status. (It has become something of a novelty here at MMA HQ.) Diaz is scheduled to fight Thomas Denny on January 20, 2007 in Miami at the American Airlines Arena on the Gracie Fighting Championship: Evolution card.

Possible UFC 67 Fight Card

December 19th, 2006

** UPDATE ** Word on the street is that Quinton Jackson’s opponent could very well be Sam Hoger. *********** Sure, UFC 66 is right around the corner; but, you know me. I’m always looking ahead. So here is what appears to be the current full fight card for UFC 67, scheduled for February 3, 2007 [...]

Mirko Cro Cop will join the UFC

December 14th, 2006

It appears that Mirko “Cro Cop” Filopovic will be officially joining the UFC in the near future. Multiple sources are confirming that fact that Cro Cop is on his way to fight in the UFC. Look out Tim Sylvia… Your days as heavyweight champion are numbered.

I was going to go through the full Dana White interview in the Orange County Register myself and post a breakdown of the highlights, but a few other guys have already done a great job at it. Zach Arnold at Fight Opinion gives his analysis here. Scott White at MMA on Tap gives his breakdown [...]

December 13th, 2006

Dana White, president of the UFC, confirmed to the media yesterday that the third fight between Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and former champion Matt Hughes will take place on April 7, 2007 in Montreal, Canada. The rubbermatch will mark the first UFC event held in Canada, and the start of a big international push [...]

UFC buys WFA (and WEC??)

December 11th, 2006

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s official website, UFC.com, is reporting that Zuffa (UFC parent company) has “acquired select assets from the World Fighting Alliance (WFA) organization. Under the terms of the purchase, World Fighting Alliance, Inc. will cease all operations.” The specific “select assets” that the UFC acquired in the deal were not mentioned but it [...]

Last month, we reported that the UFC had ended its contract with David Loiseau Well, it looks like The Crow will be fighting in the first MMA event on Showtime this coming February. David has said on his myspace.com blog that he signed a contract with Pro Elite Inc., which just recently joined up with [...]

MMA on CBS: 60 Minutes

December 10th, 2006

Mixed Martial Arts was featured tonight on CBS’ 60 Minutes news show. If you didn’t happen to see the clip, I’ll try to find a link to the video somewhere and post it later. The 60 Minutes piece is easily the most “mainstream” news exposure MMA has had to date. I was a little apprehensive [...]
