Frank Trigg returned to MMA action Friday night in Honolulu, Hawaii when he fought Jason “Mayhem” Miller for the ICON Middleweight title. Trigg hadn’t fought since April, when he lost a dissapointing fight to Carlos Condit at Rumble on the Rock 9. After that loss, Trigg said he was retiring from MMA competition and appeared to be comfortable with his new position as Pride FC commentator.
Once a fighter, always a fighter, however. Trigg was bitten by the competition bug and accepted the fight against Jason Miller as his comeback to MMA competition. This fight also marked Triggs move to the 185-lb Middleweight division from his previous home at 170-lb Welterweight division.
Trigg appears to have learned his lesson from losing several previous fights due to submission and was able to hold off the submission “expert” Miller. Trigg was able to stuff most of Millers takedown attempts and even was able to work his way out of a rear-naked choke attempt; something that has proven to be his downfall in the past.
In the end, Triggs strength and movement proved to be too much for Miller, and Frank was able to pummel Miller with a barage of ground-and-pound and soccer kicks. Nearly three minutes into the second round, the ref stopped the fight and Frank Trigg was the new ICON Sport Middleweight champion.
Welcome back Frank, and well done.
