Crocop has had the best year. Let anyone in the UFC fight two top contenders in the same night and see how bad they are. To beat Silvia and Barnett in the same tournament is amazing. Let GSP fight Matt then Diego and see if he can handle it. Mirko is a warrior and anyone who doubts that must not have seen any of his fights or is to bias to give him credit. Fedor would make GSP look like a little girl. Crocop battled him all the way to a decision and punished him the whole time. GSP wouldn’t last 3 minutes before being KO’d by either of them. No disrespect to GSP he is a great fighter but who did he beat this year? Matt and….who

Your the one who said the only way you would give Crocop credit is if he beat Fedor which is retarded. No one has beat Fedor but Crocop has by far been the man to come the closest. I never said GSP should fight Crocop or Fedor everyone knows he wouldn’t have a chance. As far as Barnett being crap I wouldn’t go that far either. He would definetly beat Tim and probably Arvloski. All I said is I don’t think GSP is capable of beating two top contenders on the same night like Crocop did. That alone should gain him some respect but I guess everyone has an opinion.

How can they leave Fedor out of this running? that’s ridiculous. He seems by leaps and bounds more dominant than any other fighter in the world. And, of the fighters who can even come close to beating him, CroCop is the closest.

Fedor is left off the list because he only fought once in 2006 ( well twice if you count the new year’s eve show which technically is in 2006). He beat Mark Coleman in October then Mark Hunt on 12/31/06. Nothing too impressive.

I don’t think Arlovski’s defeat of Sylvia was luck at all.

The thing is Arlovski is a good fighter, but not a great one. Arlovski ruled a VERY weak UFC heavyweight division and I think was given a lot more credit and praise than he deserved. After winning the belt from Syliva, Arlovski defeated Justin Eilers and Paul Buentello, neither of which have proven track records of high skill level.

Arlovski does have the potential to be a contender again in the UFC heavyweight division, but I don’t think anyone is interested in seeing a fourth fight with Sylvia, so until Cro Cop or someone else can take the belt from Syliva, I don’t think we’ll see Arlovski fighting for the title.

i picked other my fighter of the year was diego sanchez i have to say that im a fan and to me he proved himself this year and to whom ever said that no one has beat fedor thats a lie he actually has one loss to tsuyoshi kohsaka a loss that he avenged dont u guys at least research ur guys a little bit before making comments another fighter thats a force to be reckoned with in the future is dennis kang he would of been my second pick maybe u guys should think out of the box a little

i was going to say but richard beat me to it that fedor has been beat by TK but to his credit it was because of a cut.it would have been nice if foedor had fought more then twice this year. i really think he needs to move on from pride fully and make a run somewhere else. the only problem is were are all the good heavys gone? fedor has beaten everyone worth fighting so who now?

Also, how come nobody is giving anything to Anderson Silva? i know i know 2 fights, but he demolished the champ in under 3 minutes after proving with Leben that if you arent top notch you have about a minute before you go down.

I am a huge fan of Mauricio Rua. With that said, I’ve voted him as ‘other’. He came back from a hideous broken arm to win three times. Although Randleman (in my eyes) is at the end of his career, he is vicious, and was so, in the first part of the round in his fight with Rua. Shogun won with the only submission in his MMA career. I see a very bright future in Rua’s career and cannot wait to see him fight agian. Peace.

I remember when I first saw Randleman fight, you’re absolutely right Richard, his intensity blew me away, yet lack of technique disappointed me just as much.

oh my god i cant believe i forgot anderson silva! someone slap me hard! i’m not sure if you mean anderson only fought twice in the ufc or just this year or all together. hopefully you have seen more of his fights. if you have only seen the two ufc fights look for some other fights! NOW! he has 3 wins and 1 loss in 06. his one loss was in rumble on the rock when he kicked yushin okami in the face from the guard and knocked him out the problem was that you cant kick a grounded fighter in the head. so he lost by DQ! find some fights of anderson’s from meca world vale tudo. anderson silva has a very good 17-4-0 record and has beaten some very tough fighters. keep your eyes on anderson he’ll blow your mind but it will be fast!

Thanks for the comment support R.J.! I love the fight between him and Carlos Newton when he kept on striking him with hands feets and knees. Props to Carlos though for taking as many as he did. I just couldn’t believe he wasn’t in the running for Fighter of the Year. I think he has improved so much since then and if he were to face Newton again he would make easy work of him.

yea man, carlos trained under moni azik, at this place like 10 min from my place, its where my buddy trains ju jit su. I met carlos and got his autograph and all that, but my buddy got to roll with him hehe pretty cool man.

About fighter of the year, i went with GSP, he definately had the best year of his career and almost definately the best this year. Did you see alot of other titles changing hand? Yea there was anderson silva, and he was really impressive, but i think GSP was even more impressive vs Hughes! Its one thing to KO a guy whos trying to KO you. Its another thing to pick apart a guy like hughes the way GSP did!

I think Rich wasnt ready for Silva the way Hughes was ready for GSP, although he was still pretty cocky trying to stand with him.. but ya.. thats my 2 cents.

i would have to say chuck. And i know everyone is tired of hearing chucks name but who else this year put up the ko ratio than chuck, and im basing it on he put the natural into retirement, beat a real good ranalto sobral, and not to mention he stopped a tito ortiz who came off of some good wins, and they were all by knockout. And c’mon people he is a true modern day peoples champ, he gives the people what they want (knockouts and excitement) and he is consistant in giving the crowd and the fans what they want. He keeps you one your feet the entire fight screaming, especially when he lands one of those bombs to end the night. And he always ends the fight on the right note….a knock out. Hell…. he ended the year on the right note by living up to the fight hype, and knocking up loudmouth tito So i would have to say Chuck by far this year. Yea gsp is a great fighter but 2006 was chucks year.

Hey Richard, for somebody that never witnessed “The Natural” at work, you’ve got allot of opinions. For him to beat Chuck was no embarrassment on Chuck’s part. He just had to prove he’s better. Well i donno richard, these guys arnt fighting multiple fights in one night, i mean c’mon ne one can lay on someone the whole fight and pound and pound and pound. I am not taking nothing away from rampage though he is a great fighter, but this fight is different. 1) Your in chucks house infront of chucks fans this time 2) They both will be in top condition,well rested and more motivated than ever to fight each other 3)They both have something to fight for, chuck to avenge his loss and prove he will knock rampage out, and rampage has a family to feed and he has something to prove. So i mean unless one of them falls off like rampage may loose this upcoming fight or chuck lets micky’s liquor catch up to him i think this will be a GREAT fight mainly because the situation and scene is so different this time, mainly in chucks favor because now he is the champ and he dont wanna loose, and its his house and rampage got to come into HIS backyard and try and win

I love both of these fighters. But Chuck Liddell deserves the votes mainly because of his star power and the fact that he won 3 times in 2006. St. Pierre only fought twice and the first of those two was against B.J. Penn who he barely beat.

Why do you think Dana bought his contract at this time? Because nobody can take Chuck down. In case you haven’t been keeping up with mma. Chuck is the light heavyweight champion for a reason. He has litterally stomped every contender, including Hall of Famer, Randy, “The Natural” Coulture, who is obviously someone that you know absolutely nothing about in your vast worldly mma experience. But you’re quick to say that Rampage can take him. Randy’s skills far exceed those of Rampage. The only advantages Rampage would have is strength and youth.

Well d i just watched that gsp fight over again and it wasnt the leg kicks that weakend him, and you know if you kicked in the growing you can recover form that especially when you get all the time you need to recover when you kicked in the growing in the ufc, and he was up and jumping around after two min. It was that damn superman punch that hurt em and then the leg kick to the head that was devastating and eventually ended the fight. But yea i think matt will come back and fight him again, but like you and everyone said gsp is the most well rounded fighter along with anderson silva and some others, i think it will be hard for matt to try and challenge gsp from the standup when gsp mixes his attack up so much. I mean it was gsp mixing it up so much that led to matts eventuall knock out, but i agree with you about everything else tho.(chuck)

Come one Todd, watch it again, and look at Matt’s face after the kicks. Matt is a man in every sense of the word. He tried everything he could to show no weekness, and his legs buckled anyway.
After GSP was warned about the groin kick, and Matt was given some time to recover (believe me, seconds is not enough), GSP’s first kick with even more force went str8 to the nuts.
If anyone agrees that GSP has probably got the deadliest kicks, then imagine taking three to the nut sack! back-to-back.

It’s definately not just you. Rampage can only “go through the motions” with Chuck. He has no choice. The way I see it he has no chance because he will duck & hope like last fight, but this time Chuck will be ready with the same KO blow that dropped Babalu.

Yea because chuck in my opinion was winning like the first 5 min before rampage landed one of them punches that just had him rocked, and them another one that kinda dropped the iceman, but yea chuck wont be fighting no three fights in one night and he will be at home, AND he will be fighting this time in the octagon and not a wwe wrestling ring so chuck wont dispense as much energy as he did damn near 4 years ago. People make it seem that chuck just got hammerd and it happend last night or something. You guys should go to daily motion and read the bad comments they say about chuck and that fight and the ufc period. Its like they really hate chuck!! but i think chuck needs to go after him early like he did with cotoure 3 and in tito 2, i would make the situation for rampage impossible to get comfortable in and i would just come out and try and take him out, because after rampage gets hurt he lays back and becomes complacent so i think chuck needs to take advantage of the octagon as well, because in the ring chuck couldnt use the ropes to recover so fast like he can in the octagon so i think that this will pose to be a 100% different fight but also a good one, because i really dont think they respect or like each other.

I agree that Chuck would win a rematch vs. Rampage. As much as I like Chuck, I don’t know what it is about human nature to want to see the guy on top get taken down a notch. I guess when all of the other so called “champions” in UFC division were exposed, everyone wanted to see if Chuck was the same. But, I have to say that he’s solid and is probably the only guy keeping the UFC on his shoulders, cause he delivers entertaining KO’s over and over again. Also, one of the reasons I give him respect is that he is probably the only UFC fighter to have competed on an international level (Pride).

That is what i been sayin to all the ufc and chuck haters out there, i mean if you look at it when it comes to people like that they either hate chuck or the ufc or they love it, and people who are pride fans have no love for the ufc(well the comments ive seen regarding wandelei silva v chuck) but i dont know why? I actually think Wanderlei has the absolute best shot, but he better hurry before he’s too old and worn out. He could have been easily killed from what CroCop did to him. “Shogun” is a bad *** too. i was very impressed by some of his fights that I’ve seen.
