Travis Lutter failed to make the required weight of 185 pounds for his scheduled Middleweight title fight against Anderson Silva. Lutter first tipped the scales at 187 pounds and was only able to cut another half pound over the next 2 hours and weighed in his final time at 186.5 pounds.
In a non-title fight, a fighter may weigh in as much as 1 pound over the weight class limit; however, in a santioned title fight, there is no 1 pound buffer. The Silva vs. Lutter fight will still take place; however, it is now a three-round non-title fight.
As a result of missing weight, Lutter was fined 10% of his purse by the Nevada State Athletic Commission; 5% will go to his opponent, Anderson Silva, and 5% will go to the NSAC.
You may recall the last time this happend was at UFC 56 where Joe Riggs failed to make weight for his title fight agains then Welterweight champion Matt Hughes. Riggs was easily defeated by Hughes the following day in the first round.

F*cking crazy a once in a lifetime chance and he cant make weight im going to watch the ppv anyways 3or5 rounds it aint going all the way lutter tko 2nd round
it blows me away that lutter can burn his chance like this. if he wins this fight he will still have to get another shot at gold. if he loses this fight i can see the ufc telling him to get lost just because they cant count on him to deliver the fight he was signed to. how can you give a guy a title if your not even sure if he will be able to make weight to defend it. my point is lutter has a job to do and he has had time to prepare so why didnt he make weight? sorry mr.lutter but you let me down. silva vs. lutter is a spike tv caliber fight that i have already put my $40 down to see so the least they could do is give us your best effort and have the fight that your supposed to. the new jersey state athletic commission wants to change the weigh-in to were the fighters are being weighed a few different times in the weeks leading up to the fight with rules like you can only be 5% overweight two weeks befor the fight. that means middle weights can only weigh up to 194lbs. two weeks befor they fight thus preventing fighters from dropping massive amounts of weight just befor the fight. i dont really like new jerseys idea but it would stop stuff like this happening so maybe they should start doing it at least for title fights.
Come on….this is the big time and this is a joke…..make your weight, if your a professional fighter this should be routine. Im glad they are still fighting but really he should be disqualified entirely,
yes sir you are 100% right be a professional do your job!
ya i hear you guys loud an clear, with the amount of time he had to prepare, theres no excuse for this. I hope its not an indication of Lutters work ethic, we might not have much of a fight on our hands if thats the case..
atleast we get to see a left high kick KO heh
Lutter likes he has Leukemia. He is so pale, weak and dehydrated.
He has a long night ahead of him.
damn to win by submission is crazy when silva was mounted i thought it was done but damn it was a good fight.and the last fight they showed was better than smith cote
Yes, very surprising that Lutter was taking Silva down so easily. I was very shocked and nervous.
Rampage was not as impressive as we all probably thought he would be. It is obvious that he is definitely not ready to take on Chuck just yet.
Cote- another boring fight
So who should be next for Mirko?
Silva executed a very nice triangle and i gotta give lutter some credit for holding out that long but when i saw those elbows i knew he was gunna tap.
They are gunna need to find someone who isnt gunna be afraid to fight Mirko and not run from him the entire match .. it looked like a horror flick where no matter how fast he ran and what he did Mirko was right there stalkin him kinda reminded me of T1000 from the terminator with that blank look on his face
lol with out a doubt cro cop is a robot “he is a high powered kicking machine sent to our time to wage war on the faces of mma fighters” lol. it was a good card over all. some good fights. rampage could have been better. silva, triangle, i like. martin ko in 14 lol nice. cote could have done better (like maybe finish a hurt smith) lol entertaining though. huerta huh?!?weird.
were is every one today? nobody has anything to say? oh well i guess it is sunday and all so kick back brothers and sisters. i hope everyone enjoyed the fights last night. it was a good show like always. have a good weekend everybody!
Well, Dennis is crying because Lutter lost, ha-ha
Rampage is ready for Chuck, he creamed him before and was nervous last night, that’s all. He still Ko’d Eastman. Besides it’s not like he got worse since he beat Chuck. One or two more battles and he’ll be very dangerous so Chuck should really want to take him on sooner rather than later, especially if Rampage starts gaining a good fan base to support him,
Go Cro-Cop, Did anyone notice the comment “ Hey Randy, it’s a great time to come back to the HW divisionâ€,â€Well I think it is†Classic!
Not crying at all. In fact I’m just glad that Rampage did as I expected, and he’s definately not ready for Chuck…. In the words of Patrick….HE SUCKS!
Lutter actually did better than I expected, especially since he was anemic.
Cro Cop did exactly as I anticipated…
Tito trying to get Jenna to give him head….. priceless.
ay, it was a great card if you ask me! best fight by far, griffin vs edgar, that was a crazy technical match, im glad we got to see that one!
I give pure respects to marvin eastman, rampage was visibly not at 100% nerves, or terrible conditioning, watever.. eastman was looking good, he still has that crazy handspeed, too bad he still has that chin, he went out like a champ tho.
I give pure respects to eddie sanchez, you might think he was running from crocop, but in reality he was executing his gameplan very well. He was always circling away from crocops power side, he was moving backward too, that was not to be engaged with crocop for very long and let him set up his distance. Though crocop was doing pretty good sizing him up even while he was moving, imagine if he was standing still lol. He frustrated crocop and he even clocked him HARD a few times, i think it was a bit of a premature stoppage, but like they said, it probably saved sanchez a trip to the hospital.. Either way, sanchez put up a good effort.
lutter was disappointing from even before the fight began with all the weight issues and all that.. he was also clearly not 100% physically, definately not 100% mentally considering he already blew his shot at the title. I picked him to win this fight and he could have done it, but theres alot of variables at that level of competition, all kinds of pressures, how was it possible for him not to make the weight? it just doesnt make sense. They were saying he doesnt have a coach? thats crazy man, you need multiple coaches helping you, you need a good doctor in your team too. He set himself up to lose the fight, and possibly miss his only shot, sad.. very sad..
On the plus side, Silva threw that beautiful flying knee that almost stopped travis hehe that was crazy.
Very satisfying card
i like silva but im not impressed with his take down defense i actually thought for a second lutter won i could of swore silva went limp then his legs went up and easily knocked lutter back i dont know bjj but shouldnt lutter have done something to prevent that from happening lutter looked bad sick or something and maybe if he would of been 100percent he would of won if he got silva down with those shi*ty as takedowns imagine if he would of been a hundred percent i think he would of won my opinion is lutter already had given up before the match started
I know you guys are down on Lutter for not making weight; but, something tells me 185lbs is not his natural fight weight. We see it all the time with the guys on the TUF show…they seem to jump at the chance to make the show and fight at a weight they just cannot keep.
True,
If Lutter was looking so sick then why fight at that weight. He didnt even make the weight to begin with!!! and still looked “sick”. Everyone thinks if lutter was 100% percent he would have done better. Yeah, probably, but, he wouldnt be fighting in Silva’s weight class anyway.
Has anyone considered that maybe Silva didnt defend the takedowns because he didnt feel threatened? After all, how was the fight won? thats right he submitted the “submission master” — He won in this way and nobody can accept it was a fair fight - Lutter was sick, I thought Lutter had him” bull****, Lutter lost and Silva deserves big credit.
Dennis — Rampage doesnt suck. Question: Did you see the last fight
between Rampage and Chuck? if so, what comments (or excuses) do you have this time?
If not here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDUbdVGqNCk
LOL DENNIS USING MY LINE ARE YA… I THINK RAMPAGE WAS JUST NERVOUS BUT I DIDNT THAT HE WAS THAT GREAT… BUT HE DONT SUCK
jayme, i think everyones talking about lutters condition and performance because that was the only thing out of wack in the fight. The fact that he had this opportunity and he did everything wrong, like not making the weight, the problem was that he doesnt have a good team. If he was with a good team he would have never missed weight. The fact is YES he definately would have done better considering it was over when he didnt make the weight, add the mental state that you already lost your shot at the title, he was a mess for this fight. It goes to show how much things like that can influence the outcome of the fight.
Nobodys trying to take anything away from Silva, he executed his gameplan perfectly, he wasnt trying to avoid the take down, he was trying to land a heavy blow off lutters shoot. Silva was confident in his ground skills, and yes, he tapped out the submission master heheh he looked great that night! pure respect to silva, hes the champ man! wat else can you say?
so thats why people are talking about lutter, cuz he screwed up royally
Hey BV, always the voice of reason….. Silva is a great fighter, probably the third best striker in the business, next to Chuck & Cro Cop, but you have to admit, Travis wasn’t up to par.
…. and as for Rampage? What a dissappointment. After all the hype, he barely defeats Marvin? … and you think he’s ready for Chuck? I would bet you $20 that if you catch him on a personal level away from the cameras, he’d tell you that the octagon is way more intimidating than he expected, and he drastically underestimated the caliber of the UFC fighters, and he really needs to approach this from a better angle, along with considerable training, getting some real skills besides just being big and athletic, before even thinking about facing Chuck.
As for him beating Chuck, yea I saw it, and if you really think that Chuck would go out like that today, you don’t know squat about mma!
yea dennis, even rampage himself basically said hes not ready, if he really hopes to beat chuck again, he better step up his game, get that CARDIO up to new levels. He should be training in bigbear with tito, im sure tito could show him a few tricks for octagon ground and pound too! Still eastmans nobody to sleep on, hes a game fighter man, and a crazy athlete, he just doesnt have a great chin.
Anderson Silva is like the 185 pound yves edwards, slick striker, bjj blackbelt, great all around fighter.
that guy Halverson would be lucky if he ever fought in the UFC again after that phantom knee performance..
You know, that would probably be the best thing Rampage could do….sign up with Team Punishment. He already said he liked Tito, (I’m not surprised), but both their approaches to gaining recognition and support are similar. They could HYPE each other to the top!
I have seen some of Cro Cop’s fights before in Pride and I have NEVER seen him throw such a fast counterpunch EVER. It was almost like Sanchez was fighting in slow motion. If anyone knows what I’m talking about…Mirko’s punch was as fast as lightning. I was shocked.
As far as Rampage goes, again…I was not impressed by his performance. I can understand why he was so nervous, but for the simple lone fact that he fought in Pride against competition that was 10x times better, should relieve any of his anxieties. He is nowhere ready for Chuck yet and just cause he beat him before, does in no way, mean anything significant. Chuck is one of the most confident fighters there are…and the simple fact that many people need to accept is that some fighters just naturally improve while others do not. It has nothing to do with training or ambition but simple talent.
@ Dennis,
First of all, I wouldn’t go off as saying he barely beat Marvin Eastman, but he just did not look polished and crisp yet. Second, he already admitted to everyone that he was the most nervous he’s ever been before a fight? did you miss that part? Third, for him to say that he “underestimated” a UFC fighter would be ridiculous considering this was ummm….his first fight in the UFC in years AND that he could probably still beat 95% of the 205lbs.ers out there. Finally, I have a problem with you implying that Eastman is a top-tier UFC fighter…the guy is 37 years old and I can’t even remember the last time I saw him in the Octagon…oh wait..yes I do..when he got KTFO by another “top-tier” UFC fighter, yeah right, Travis Lutter.
Watch rampages next fight, thats all I can say. He’ll be hell bent on doing better next match and his nerves should be calmer. True he’s not my favourite fighter and is usually up and down, but he’s a Pride FC veteran and has more experience taking on talent than most of the 205’s in the UFC — you can’t take that away from him just because you have your favourites. He not the best in the world but is very dangerous and you can’t judge him from this one UFC match with Eastman — which by the way wasnt that bad!?!.
Do you (you know how you are) still think Chuck and Tim Sylvia are the true LHW and HW champs of MMA. haha
hey jayme dennis is a old racist white guy u cant reason with him he demands respect for lutter who gassed worse than rampage and pisses on rampage who did better than lutter
Hey Amir, some of what you said makes sense, but I never insinuated that Travis or Marvin were, “top tier” whatever that means. But you make my point even more sharp. If indeed Marvin is not a threat, shouldn’t that fight have gone more along the same pace as the Cro Cop fight? He’s nowhere close to Chuck.
*** for **** again, what has race got to do with talent? In case you didn’t notice, Tito’s not black, and I have absolutely no respect for him. Anderson Silva is black, and I have tremendous respect for him. He’s the third best striker in the business!
now let me say sumtin dat u can un der stan.,..
Butt Wit u it iz az I said, u **** make ne sense out of your mouth, so u get personal and throw up **** out of your pie hole like racial slurs. Why dunt u get a grip, grow up u incetuous ***.
There are no hills here! I’m not racist. You’re just stupid.
Sorry guys, but this guy just will not get off my nuts….
THEY BOTH SUCK
dennis im on ur *** cuz when i say a fighter sucks i always try to point out good qualities that that fighter might have and for u to knock rampage everychance u get is bull and i dont care if my typing is off cuz i follow mma very well and know what the fu*ck im talking about hillbilly
