Tito Ortiz vs Keith Jardine at UFC 71

March 5th, 2007 | by Dr J

Tito OrtizIn an interview with MMAToday.com, Tito Ortiz confirmed that his next fight will be against Keith Jardine at UFC 71.

MMAToday: What can we expect from you in 2007?
TO: More movies? My heart is really in fighting right now andIm in fighting mode. I want to keep going with Punishment Athletics.Im a business man then a fighter and then actor man but fighter firstand foremost now. My next fight is in May against Keith Jardine.

MMAToday: Where do you see yourself in the UFC title picture at Light Heavyweight?
TO: Im in the top 3. I will fight any of them, I fought Liddell and made some mistakes but that wont happen again. He has been dominant and done what he has done, so have I and I will do it again.

MMAToday: What motivates you to continue fighting and training after an almost 10 year professional career of fighting?
TO: My fans and the drive to be the best. Its a mixture of both.

MMAToday: Who are your favorite fighters to watch?
TO: GSP #1. He has a hard work ethic and is very exciting, what he did to Matt Hughes was impressive. Brandon Vera is exciting and hits hard, hes a good wrestler and has good Jiu-jitsu.

MMAToday: Are there any fighters you want to fight that you havent had a chance to yet?
TO: Shogun Rua would be an awesome fight, Id love to fight him, Wanderlei just lost and Id love to fight him again. Dan Henderson would be great. I will fight anyone and make it exciting for the fans. I just want to keep people buying pay per views and keep the fans entertained, me and chuck did it right and broke records for pay per view buys.

This should be an interesting matchup. Kieth has been on a roll lately and deserves to get this fight. Looks like Tito’s going to be the gatekeeper of the LHW division. I was kinda hoping for Rampage vs Tito but this seems like a good fight.

hell ya, i have alot of respect for Tito, id like to see him fight anyone really! win or lose, tito will make it a fight, you can bet on that hehe

This is going to be a great fight. I was very impressed with Jardine’s striking against Forrest, may people were very shocked. This division is only getting better, especially now with guys lie Bisping ( I think he’s the real thing y’all) and Lyoto Machida, who btw knocked out Rich Franklin in another time. Machida/Griffin is gonna be incredible too.

Sorry guys..,, Keith is looking good, but not that good.

Remember, Tito’s coming off of a ***** slapping from the ICEMAN, and needs to get his manhood back.

Prediction: Tito, first round, ground & pound.

I thnk Jardine is way too durable to be grounded out by Tito in the first. Tito’s style meshes well with jardine. I look for this fight to go the distance. With a unanimous for Tito.

Tito is the Gate Keeper for the light heavyweight title. Get past him and you stand a chance with Liddell.

I’ll take Tito in a slugfest, but I may change my mind. It’s going to be a good fight, but I see Tito doing to much ground-n-pound for Keith Jardene. Tito is my favorite fighter in the biz. Funny how Tito’s #2 is my #2 favorite fighter………..GSP!

Go Tito!!!!

ortiz vs. jardine? yeah that sound cool i’m in……lets get it on! i’m not sure if jardine has the game to beat tito just yet but i’m sure it will be fun to watch.

i dont know if anyone knows yet or not but dana white just got his pro boxing license for his and tito’s exhibition match. most of us wont get to see it (not open to the public) but its still cool. the NSAC had four people voting on weather or not to give him the license one guy voted no and told dana “how can i justify give a license to a pro boxer with a record of 0-0 and let him fight an experienced fighter like tito” lol thats funny sh*t!!! what even funnier is another guy that vote yes said the mismatch was in dana’s favor because when they used to spar together dana used to dominate tito. lmao i can HEAR dana’s head swelling lol

Now that Jardine is set to face Tito and Rampage’s name may be off the card at UFC 71, who’s next to fight Chuck Liddel? Jason Lambert should be next to face Liddel for the title. Rashad Evans should headline one or two more UFC Fight Night before fighting for the title.

I thought Tito’s next fight was Dana….LOL

Next fight for Chuck…….Cro Cop!

i dont know, i would like to see evans fight liddell soon not because i think he will win but if evans loses to the top dog (as opposed to a mid card guy) he might get even more drive. if evans fights in the fight nights too long he might lose at some point and get it in his head that he’s not on par with guys like liddell but if he can go a few rounds with a guy like liddell he might think “i just have to work a little harder to get there” and raise to that level. then again i might just have it totally asss backwards. i just think that evans is a future champ and i want to see it sooner than later. and i cant wait for the ufc to start hyping the light weights. we still get to see light weights fight all the time but we have no big hype about who is chasing the title. hopefully TUF5 will get everyone pumped. there is some light weights that are really fun to watch!

yeah i feel the same ortiz will beat jardine even though i really like seeing tito bet beat up.

Comment by Crockett about 1 year, 8 months ago

Tito Ortiz will be fighting Rashad Evans at UFC 71, and Chuck Liddel will possibly be facing Keith Jardine. The UFC has not yet given any signs of confirmation.

jardine really hasnt tickled my bell any i dont think he has the eye of the tiger yet

Comment by todd about 1 year, 8 months ago

well i donno, keith jardine is a reall tuff gutty guy, i hope it would be a good fight, you can tell after his last fight with forest griffith that he really wants to be on top and be respected, so i think he has a good standup game and he can potentially be a real good opponent for tito ortiz, hopefully tito doesnt come out and dominate him if he gets him on the ground. His takedown defense and his defense on the ground will be tested if tito gets him on the ground. But me witnesing how destructive tito can be tells me to go with tito but keiths heart and desire wants me to believe or hope tito wins. His hands looked good against forest and we can see he knows how to finish a fight so maybe he can get tito rocked and end the fight but we will see ive seen tito chin tested and it failed so lets see if jardine can take advantage of it. should be interesting to see this one.

I really can’t stand Tito Ortiz. I think he embodies everything “WWE” in the MMA world. He is also cryer when he loses, and a mouthy you know what before his fights, it’s old, and the drama is worn out, he needs a new “routine”. As a fighter, I think he has a good chin, he got hit considerably by the Iceman in their fight and he stood with him for a good while, who the heck can beat the iceman in that division, Tito came the closest in a while. I really don’t get excited to watch him fight, but I have to give him this, he is a guy with name recognition, and he puts people in seats…. he also has a good ground game, although I think Jardine could one shot him if he isnt careful. I think in the end, it could go the distance, and Tito would probably win this one… I hate admitting that

Comment by josh about 1 year, 8 months ago

wow! this is going to be a vert exciting matchup…tito is a very talented guy and knows how to bring the pain and push the pace but he’s going to have a very tough match againist jardine, in my opinion both these guys are bad asses!

But my prediction is going to be an upset with jardine wining by winning it by split

Comment by Dennis about 1 year, 8 months ago

Looks like Tito will fight Rashad instead of Jardine.

Comment by Dennis about 1 year, 8 months ago

Randy will get a shot at Cro Cop before Chuck….

Comment by Dennis about 1 year, 8 months ago

UFC still trying to get quinton to fight Chuck…….unsuccessfully.

Comment by richard about 1 year, 8 months ago

hillbilly
sugar vs ortiz is a way better match than jardine i think sugar is growing and a force to be reckoned with .Now ur implaying that rampage is scared of liddel is a joke he should get his ufc jitters out of the way before liddel doesnt mean hes scarred just means he wants to be ready remember rampage has fought scarrier guys shogun and wandy and wandy is really one ugly fu*cker litterally

Comment by Dennis about 1 year, 8 months ago

quinton is quite queeer….

Evans though is impressive… If he EVER gets a ground game, he will be a serious contender………after Chuck retires…..

Comment by richard about 1 year, 8 months ago

hillybilly
true on evans he has a tendency to lay on his people but showed us all he has ko power

Comment by cali dude about 1 year, 7 months ago

I just hope that all these new foreign guys that are entering the sport won’t take over. You know? Cro Cop, and some other big *** dude was mentioned in ufc 69 last night. I want the belts to stay in America with guys like hughes, lidell, ortiz(if he can get it).

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 7 months ago

@Cali Dude
Who cares, the belts stay in American no matter who has them because the UFC is an AMERICAN owned entity. .. Arlovski, Gracie, Silva, all great fun to watch fighters, and you know, ORTIZ and DIAZ are of MEXICAN decent, soooo, can’t have that either can we? .. Then when I look at fighters like TIM the IDIOT SYLVIA who carries an American flag to the octagon, it embarasses me, now COUTURE, thats an American to be proud of, but yeah, I think we opened the doors to competition, and the fights are getting better because diversity in the Octagon is a good thing. I was seriously bored with most of Hughes’ fights, and am glad he has been on the back burner, as far as Liddell goes, I think he will lose to Shogun soon. So you will have a Croatian at HW, a Brazilian at LHW, a Brazilian at MW, and the only divisions I think we can hold right now are Welter and LW.

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 7 months ago

That was funny, “the belts stay in AMERICAN” .. lol

Comment by richard about 1 year, 7 months ago

yeah it that was lame
