Former UFC Heavyweight fighter Jeff Monson revealed yesterday on his personal website blog that he will be fighting Kazuyuki Fujita this March in PrideFC. Monson was originally supposed to fight Roman Zentzov this April in BodogFIGHT, but apparently that fight is now off and Monson will be fighting in Pride.
hey
This morning i found out the Bodog fight wil not be happening now, but im set to fight in Japan for the Pride show on the 30th March against Kazuyuki Fujita. Its been crazy this last couple of weeks with all the changes, but this is a definate go ahead now. sorry for all the confusion. Im still in England now training down at Red Corner doing stand up, and hopefully with Braulio Estima some time this week for my grappling. My training is going good and im in fairly good shape now. thanks to everyone for the support.
jeff
Monson most recently won the 10k Grappling tournament in London, England last week against a 32-man field. The fight with Fujita should be an interesting matchup for Monson and it will be interesting to see if Pride decides to keep Monson around considering his somewhat “slow” style of MMA fighting.

why the fu*ck would he need to work on his grappling he needs to work on his boxing hes already a excellent grappler someone needs to remind him this is mma
I hope Fujita knocks him out. Monson is a grat grappler but he fights are less than entertaining. There’s no way he can KO Iron head so he better take it to the ground. I can see Fujita winning this one.
i think when he said grappling, he was talking about his ju jitsu skills, his wrestling has probably reached its maximum effectiveness. Fujita is a big guy tho! i cant see monson winning this one..
Honestly, Monson is way too short, and has way too short of a reach to be competing against these 6ft and larger guys. I think he needs to drop down a little and fight someone closer to his size because all a tall striker has to do is keep his distance with repeated strikes, like Tim Sylvia did, so unless it’s strictly grappling, he stands to get his butt kicked a lot in the future.
I think Jeff’s whole training background is really wrong for UFC. It appears he focused too much on weight lifting and wrestling, and not enough of everything else…
Thus, he’s restricted by his body mass, making him slow……. compounded by his limited height and reach, I agree, he’s at a disadvantage before the fight even starts.
Well i think this one would be a good one, i mean if you wanna see to bulls go at it. I dont think monson would wanna strike with hammer head over there, but if they do i would pay….well i wouldnt pay but i would like to watch it, i mean fujita is a good fighter (from what i seen)and kinda exciting, but i havnt seen a whole lot of fujitas fights to really be able to say somethin but i seen him fight wanderlei and i enjoyed it. They both have heart and they both are aggressive so it should be a train wreck!!!!
I just saw an advertisement for Pride 34 Kamikaze… I have to say I am frustrated. They put Wanderlei Silva on the front of the ad, and they are placing him on the April fight card just after he lost the title, with a disclaimer saying “wanderlei silva’s participation subject to medical clearance”. Basically, they are going to destroy this guy, you don’t put your best guy back in the game right after he got placed on 6 month medical suspension by the NSAC! I know its Japan, and they aren’t subject to the NSAC there, but heck, give the guy some time to recover from the CroCop and Henderson fiasco’s. I see now, that Pride doesn’t care about their fighters; they just care about the money, and the organization as a whole. Silva has shed so much blood for them, stood up for them, and I know he probably has agreed to do this, he is a fighter, but really, if Pride gave a crap about him, they would hold off until at least August.
@MMAKansas,
Many fans are speculating that Pride 34 might be DSE’s last Pride show. That’s the reason for the name Kamikaze and possibly the reason for putting Wandy back up on the card. I don’t know how much validity there is to these rumors, but some of the arguements do make sense.
Of course, I’m not saying this will be the last PrideFC show period, just that it might be the last show run by Dream Stage Entertainment.
