Liddell vs Rampage: Fight Week

May 21st, 2007 | by Dr J

Well this is it boys and girls. What we have been waiting for and discussion ad naseum for the past few months: UFC 71:Liddell vs Jackson

Here is an interesting little video to get everyone warmed up. (I know everyone is more than warmed up, but hey, I just wanted to use the cliche.)

This video does seem to be quite biased towards Chuck Liddell as it only shows Rampage’s losses and none of his victories since he found Liddell.

ok so basically this shows (being slightly biased) shows chucks rise from the ashes of defeat to become a great champ and quintons degression from top contendership. It is a good thing quinton got things back on track up until now, geez everybody i talk to is going for quinton rampage jackson, i think only me and my supervisor or going for chuck!!!! Everybody keeps saying quinton is too strong and is going to ROLL thru chuck like last match!!! I donno, i want chuck to win though, i hope he does

Comment by Maxx about 1 year, 6 months ago

Rampage is the underdog, and there is a reason for that. To be honest as much as I want Quinton to win. I’m picking Chuck for this fight for seeral reasons. Quinton is a big target with a questionable chin..that a perect set for a Chuck Liddell highlight knock out. Quinton is also on the climb back up, is he really back to the old Quinton that beat liddell years ago? Will the nerves/crowd get to him? Chuck has been hungry for this fight, its been awhile that chuck had real motivation to get up for a fight. He wants this fight bad, and he wants to win in dominating fashion. I want Rampage to win, but my money is on Chuck by KO 1rst round.

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 6 months ago

Quinton doesn’t in my opinion have a questionable chin, he is hungry, and he probably has as much or more motivation to get up for this fight than Chuck seeing as how this is for a title that matters, it’s for big money, its going to be televised, and its against a guy he has already beaten many moons ago. Quinton has an ego, he isn’t going down easily mark my words, a glancing punch from Chuck wont work as we saw in the first fight and the fight with Vernon White..

Comment by Amir about 1 year, 6 months ago

Rampage questionable chin? lmfao…it’s a miracle this guy is not in a coma after the beatings he withstood by some of the strongest hitters in the world (Wandi, Rua, etc.) I think that’s considered a pretty good chin. It’s like I’ve said before, it all depends on which Rampage shows up that night. If it’s the Rampage that fought Rua and just covered up all night, he will lose…but if the other Rampage shows up the one who beat up Randleman, Chuck is in serious trouble.

Comment by Dennis about 1 year, 6 months ago

Doesn’t matter who shows up, quint the hypester, or quint da pimp.
Chuck will knock him out second round….

Comment by richard about 1 year, 6 months ago

does anyone else get annoyed with “HYPSTER” reality check he kicked the sh*it out of liddel and his three losses since have come to guys who would do the same to liddel now im not saying that rampage is going to run threw anyone im saying hes a tough SOB that has a damn good chin{he took several knees from wandy}so straight up its a coin toss but iv got a tee on rampage

Comment by richard about 1 year, 6 months ago

IN ALL THOSE LOSSES RAMPAGE HAD EVEN THOUGH HE WAS GETTING HIS AZZZZ KICKED HARD I STILL NEVER SEEN A TOWEL THROUGH IN

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 6 months ago

I see your point Richard. Be careful though bro. I made my prediction, and I am sticking with it, but I won’t run Chuck into the ground. You can’t count him out and if he wins… boy oh boy that’s a lot of crow we are going to be eating… I really don’t want to hear what the Icefan is going to have to say to all the naysayers if Chuck wins’, its going to be unbearable, like, … maybe as bad as if Tito had beaten him, can you imagine…. lol… we will see Saturday, just a few days….

Comment by richard about 1 year, 6 months ago

honestly im so nervous on this match when i think about it fu*ck if rampage loses u wont see me here for a while LOL

Comment by bvrasp about 1 year, 6 months ago

You guys see the all access? in my opinion hes not training like a maniac.. Hes not training to the intensity that matt serra trained for his fight with GSP. Hes a tough dude, but so is chuck, but im sure chuck is training like a madman, and rampage isnt.. The guy who trained harder has the advantage, provided hes not getting injured in training ofcourse..

Comment by richard about 1 year, 6 months ago

BVRASP
if liddel loses u think that his camp is going to blame him barely getting over phuenomonia

Comment by bvrasp about 1 year, 6 months ago

i dunno.. i hope they dont make any excuses man, win or lose i wont think less of either guy, especially if its a one punch KO. That can happen to anyone..

Comment by richard about 1 year, 6 months ago

the only thing i dont like is that rampage is and has been saying he wanted a couple more fights in him im not trying to say he aint ready but maybe he doubts himself

@BV

Lately all the top fighters have been making excuses for losing…. my leg was hurt (tito ortiz vs forrest griffin) ….. I didn’t train hard enough and my knee hadn’t completely healed, I would have postponed the fight had it been against Hughes (GSP) .. I had a slipped disk in my back before the fight (Tim Sylvia) … c’mon … I don’t think Chuck will make any excuses… but of course I didn’t think GSP would make any either.. I was wrong ..

Comment by R.J. St.Croix about 1 year, 6 months ago

if liddell loses i dont think he would make excuses i remember just befor his last fight with tito he said when randy couture beat him he had a knee injury and that was the first time he told anyone. so if he waited over 3 years to say something. i dont know if chuck is the type of dude to make up sh*t after he loses he just go’s back and trains and avenges.

PREDICTIONS FOR UFC 73?

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 6 months ago

UFC 73 is off a bit, but here is my current pick Patrick:

Silva - TKO 2nd round
Sherk - Decision
Evans - Decision
Nogueira - Submission or TKO 2nd round

Comment by bvrasp about 1 year, 6 months ago

it sucks whats going on with pride.. i was really looking forward to the LWGP.. who know when or even IF, we will see another pride event.. its not looking good guys.. :(

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 6 months ago

Zuffa would be wise to leave it be right now. If Pride folds, it will be a much less costly venue to pursue, Zuffa can purchase it for pennies on the dollar, basically a little over the debt worth .. or they can just eat up all the best fighters contracts because where else will they fight? Pride is pretty much done in my opinion, why keep it around anyways from a business perspective, I mean they are debt ridden and insolvent from what everyone is saying.. and their rep in Japan is ruined with corruption rumors.

Comment by R.J. St.Croix about 1 year, 6 months ago

lol Kansas dont worry the Canadians arnt trying to take over sh*t were just your layed back beer drinkin brothers from the north lol. and on to bigger issues…pride, i really dont want to see pride die. man i was so happy about this zuffa deal and now i just hope we get to see pride again. fedor doesnt belong fighting in bodog he is the best heavy in the world and needs a company who can put the best in front of him. there is alot of fighters in pride who need the same thing and i dont think anyone but pride or ufc can do that.

Comment by Dennis about 1 year, 6 months ago

Rampage has already come to terms that he’s not ready, and this is Chuck’s house. What a loser?

Comment by mmahero about 1 year, 6 months ago

RAMPAGE!! I pick rampage to win this fight. Chuck is at the top of his game. Yes but he has been on top for a long time. It’s time to fall. Plus, he is boring. Rampage is way more fun to watch. The main reason i think rampage will win is because if u look back, all chuck’s fights (KO or TKO) since he is ufc champion was against wrestlers! He knocked out wrestlers that can strike. Wrestlers r always afraid to get hit! They can be good striker but they will never be real striker. Wrestlers throws are there to set u take down. They r no strength behind those punches. Rampage is a striker/brawler. He has good chin and he is not afraid to get hit. I don’t even think rampage needs to be 100% to beat chuck. Chuck will lose confidence once he starts hitting rampage and rampage still standing. It takes a hell lot to get rampage down. This fight i consider chuck only real test because finally he meet a striker like himself. Chuck will be under pressure for this fight. Rampage is more relax and when u have a clearer mind, u will be victorious. Rampage will absorbs all chuck has to give and return the favours which chuck cannot absorbs. The only way chuck can beat rampage is if rampage covers up the whole time like his fight with mauricio or if chuck employs plenty of muai thai clinch and knee strikes. Chuck has no knees! It will be a real interesting fight. RAMPAGE!!

Comment by Dennis about 1 year, 6 months ago

quint has a clearly mind than Chuck? LMFHAO

Comment by Dennis about 1 year, 6 months ago

Chuck Liddell (-190) vs. Quinton Jackson (+155)
Karo Parisyan (-325) vs. Josh Burkman (+250)

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 6 months ago

@Dennis

There is still time to pick the winner…… Rampage Jackson, you can change your bet buddy! LOL! Kidding man!

Comment by todd about 1 year, 6 months ago

rampage is going to get hit this time. It will not be the same like last fight. Rampage, i cant see him being champ. He is a good fighter dont get me wrong. but like everyone has said in this sport you must evolve because your competition evolves so much, and i dont see rampage evolving, i see rampage being more of a off and on fighter. Chuck will catch him in this fight sooner or later. Rampage will fall, and i think chucks camp will add new things to chucks game to prepare for rampage that will ulitmately in my mind lead to rampages defeat, then we have chuck v rua or something then chuck retires. Worse case scenario chuck loses by knockout or technical knockout. lol lol, i gotta give rampage at least the benifit of the doubt though! lol lol

Comment by Dennis about 1 year, 6 months ago

Doc?
What’s with all the bidding ads?

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 6 months ago

You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Chuck isn’t changing his game. He is 38 and will fight Chucks game, and he will lose because he can’t change. Actually if he would go back to kicking and mixing it up more, he would have a great chance to win, if he would incorporate more of his “weapons” I would give him the fight by ko or decision, but since all he does is stand center of the octagon and throw hands, I can’t give him the fight…. Chuck will lose because HE hasn’t evolved ….. not one bit, same style as he had 2 years ago, only a little sharper with it is all ..

Comment by Dr J about 1 year, 6 months ago

@Dennis,

Just something I’m trying out. They should all be for MMA related auctions, like signed fight gear, gloves, posters, etc. Stuff like that.

Comment by todd about 1 year, 6 months ago

going through 7 fights and only being tooken down twice says a lot about a fighter, and that says a lot about chuck especially when your going againts all american wrestlers and top knotch grapplers. Example: Chuck went to the body of tito ortiz in their second fight, a tactic that his camp knew would work and it did, it backed tito off a little and got him guessing, and if what you say is true rampage isnt going to bring anything new to the table that is gonna beat chuck. He is gonna think that he will use the same tactic to beat chuck and i dont think it will be enough. Chuck will come out with a gameplan, and if you say chuck is gonna stand in front of the ring and fight, your right, he is fighting fighters that excel or are exceptional in the clinch, would you wanna grapple if your a striker…NO…its all strategy, he learned that fighting cotoure the first time. So in my eyes he has evolved you just rarely get to see it or probably just a glimps of it because the fight is usally over in the first round

Comment by todd about 1 year, 6 months ago

so he has evolved…….a little lol

It list all the places you can watch the weigh-ins online.

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 6 months ago

@ Todd

I hear you as far as game plan, but skill wise he has barely evolved… it’s obvious, just watch the vids, all the same for the most part …

Comment by todd about 1 year, 6 months ago

Comment by richard about 1 year, 6 months ago

but if chuck was smart he would stick to his original plan of taking out his legs like dana was saying in there first fight kicks to the legs and rampages huge hole in his game is GOOD muay thai knees if i were chuck ,buddy u already got the power in your hands if u didnt train leg kicks and knees ur getting knocked out

Comment by Dennis about 1 year, 6 months ago

I heard that one of the ESPN’s was going to show the weigh ins live.

KO….2nd round, no new tactics are necessary. quint stares up at the lights.

Comment by todd about 1 year, 6 months ago

You think the key to victory is his legs getting tooken out, i donno, i think the knees will just end the fight earlier if he uses them, but i dont think he would need them, i think the jitters and fight rust will catch up to him, i mean hes fighting up in big bear isnt he? And you see what chuck did to the “BIG BEAR LEADER”and he is supposed to be the best, or one of the best in ground and pound, so i think rampage is looking to exchange with chuck and try and wear him down, then take him down in the later rounds, not gonna work especially if chuck is able to stand in the middle of the ring and set, and pick you apart.

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 6 months ago

Chuck will gas by round 2 or 3 .. get that nervous look in his eye and poke Rampage in the eye followed up with a very quick chin shot.. lol

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 6 months ago

That is my new prediction for the fight… LOLOLOLO!

Comment by todd about 1 year, 6 months ago

i think he has evolved more in the stratetgic part of mma rather than the technique you know kansas. like i think what chuck has learned to do is use ure strength against you. That is mainly why i think he has evolved because he first hits you with that first bomb to let you know what your dealing with, then he gets you to fight his fight, mainly he basically makes you fight his fight, because he uses the octagon so well. He uses that cage as a third leg and you cant take him down, and if you get him on the cage, he makes you throw your mass forward and he either reverses the clinch or escapes it. So i think he HAS evovled if you look at it that way.

Comment by todd about 1 year, 6 months ago

Comment by richard about 1 year, 6 months ago

just because he trains in big bear doesnt mean tito is better than rampage as i recall tito never beat chuck DUMBAZZZZ

Comment by todd about 1 year, 6 months ago

i think it will go to the score cards and liddell is the victor, and i say that because i dont think liddell is aggressive enough to actually put rampage away like wandy did and shogun did

Comment by richard about 1 year, 6 months ago

sorry about calling u a dumbazzzzz
