World Extreme Cagefighting made their live television debut on the Versus network last night and overall I thought the show was very good. The production value was excellent and for a first time viewer to the sport, I think that the initial impression was top notch.
Pros
- Pace of the fights - All of the fights were good fights and well-paced with a lot of action. I’m not sure if this is inherent in the nature of these “smaller” shows, if its due to the smaller cage dimensions, or if its just due to the hunger of the fighters themselves, but I enjoyed seeing the good pace.
- Urijah Faber - I love watching Urijah Faber fight and I really wish that we could have seen a match between Faber and Kid Yamamoto take place. Unfortunately, I don’t think that will ever happen.
Cons
- Frank Mir as the “color commentator.” - Well, for that matter, both announcers were pretty awful. Several long pauses and unintelligent comments by Mir left me scratching my head on several occasions. Nothing left my scratching my head as much as Mir being referred to as “the champ” by the other ringside announcer.
- Mark Hominick - While Mark Hominick didn’t detract from the WEC show itself, I’m just overall disapointed with his performance. Hominick really has some great talent, especially at his natural weight of 145, and I think the WEC was hoping for an easy victory by Hominick to setup a title fight with Faber. However, Hominick fell rather quickly to a few very sloppy takedown attempts by Rani Yahya and gave up the rear-naked choke shortly into the first round.

MARK YOU STUPID DICCCKKK HEAD
yeah, i really didnt like mir as a commentator ,but i like the other guy though i think he used to announce with bas rutten on pride.
@ patrick
wow good post man, very insightful. thanks for making a very good point.
anyways i think hominick needs to brush up his grappling a bunch. his muay thai is nothing but awesome but he gets sub’ed to much.
LOL RJ WHAT DUDE IM RIGHT?
Your right RJ, Hominicks submission defense is what kills him all the time. its really too bad because I think he has potential to be a great 145 lber but tough losses like that just look plain awful on his resume.
DAMM 145 IS SO SMALL
I like Mir I think he did a really good job….much better than Rogan
EVERYONE SO QUITE TODAY..
JOE ROGANS VOICE GETS ON MY NERVES SOMETIMES
@patrick
lol dude if your saying that mark hominick is a d*ck head then no your wrong he is a very good guy and a very good fighter. the only thing you are right about is he is a small dude i’m not a very big guy (5′11″, 170lbs.) but i look like a beast standing beside him lol. his record is starting to look bad and most of his loses have been sh*tty ones, twice now someone got his back early and choked him out
RJ
DAMM ,…… WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHT ON CONDIT?
The WEC was the closest to the UFC I’ve seen in a while. I know their owned by Zuffa but it looks like they are making a good effort to make the WEC a sucess. Any free MMA is good in my opinion but to see great fighters also was awsome. Hope Jens takes a run at the featherweight division.
but if jens wins will he still go?
guys watch this
Behold the power of chi
@patrick
i dont really know a whole lot about condit he seems like a pretty good fighter but i have only seen him fight a few times, not enough to get a real good idea about him. he has quite a few fights for a young guy i think he’s got about 25 fights under his belt and he beat trigg so thats gotta mean something.
GUYS CHECK OUT MY VIDEO UP HERE ITS HILARIOUS
yeah i watched it. its too funny the guy in black thinks he’s got some magic sh*t going on until he gets hit lol.
