UFC 72: Victory takes place this Saturday afternoon at 3pm EST as the UFC holds their first show in Dublin, Ireland. Headlined by a good matchup between Rich Franklin and Yushin Okami, this fight card seems to lack some of the luster recent UFC events have held. Injuries have shortened the event to only 8 fights, so lets break them down a little.
Main Card
Rich Franklin Vs. Yushin Okami - With a win against Okami, Rich Franklin will most likely get another title shot against the winner of the upcoming Anderson Silva vs Nathan Marquardt fight. Personally, I believe that Rich Franklin will take the fight right to Okami and really dominate this fight from start to finish. Franklin is just as strong, if not stronger than Yushin Okami and is better skilled than Okami in pretty much every aspect of fighting. Okami probably holds a small edge on the ground, but Franklin really isn’t far behind. I hope this fight lasts into the third or fourth round and that MMA fans are treated to a good main event, but I’m not holding my breath. My prediction is Rich Franklin winning by TKO in the second round. Winner: Rich Franklin
Hector Ramirez Vs. Forrest Griffin - Hector Ramirez probably shouldn’t pose much of a threat to Forrest Griffin, but we all know that in the world of MMA anything can happen. While Keith Jardine seemed to beat Griffin rather easily at UFC 66, Jardine was completely demolished by Houston Alexander at UFC 71. Griffin better hope that Ramirez doesn’t do the same here or Forrest could be staring at a long road back into the good graces of UFC fans. If Griffin comes in with sharp strikes and good cardio, I think he wins this fight easily. Winner: Forrest Griffin
Rory Singer Vs. Jason MacDonald - This fight really does nothing to interest me. I don’t think a win here really advances either fighters career or standing in the UFC. Rory Singer will always be that Elvis Sinosic type of journeyman fighter for the UFC. MacDonald has talent but he’s not at the level yet where he can compete for a title. I think both these guys would be perfect fits for the WEC. Winner: Jason MacDonald
Clay Guida Vs. Tyson Griffin - While this should be a fairly fast-paced and exciting fight to watch, I think that Tyson Griffin should easily handle Clay Guida. While Guida brings a constant barage of energy, he doesn’t quite have the technical skillset that Griffin brings to the table. Griffin by submission in the second round. Winner: Tyson Griffin
Undercard
Jason Tan Vs. Marcus Davis - Winner: Jason Tan
Eddie Sanchez Vs. Colin Robinson - Winner: Colin Robinson
Scott Smith Vs. Ed Herman - Winner: Scott Smith
Dustin Hazelett Vs. Stevie Lynch - Winner: Dustin Hazelett

GOOD PICS DOC
THE OKAMI FRANKLIN FIGHT IS ONLY UP TO 3 ROUNDS RIGHT?
I agree with most of these pics, except for the Ramirez vs. Griffin fight. I was very surprised to see Ramirez’ fight against “The Sandman”…even though he got caught…he showed what a tough fighter he is. According to the UFC’s phony stats, Griffin has a 3″ height advantage, which I don’t believe, but Ramirez has a solid chin and very good stand-up. I think this will be a war, but in the end, Ramirez will be able to take this fight…the guy is no push-over.
BTW… anyone know why UFC 73, 75 are already planned but still no mention of UFC 74? what is wrong with these guys planning the cards?
@Patrick,
Yeah, the Franklin vs Okami fight is only 3 rounds.
@Amir,
UFC 74 is going to have the GSP vs Josh Koscheck fight, and Randy vs Gabriel Gonzaga. It will take place August 25 in Vegas.
Also, Sakurai vs Diego Sanchez is rumored for UFC 74.
im not doing anything saturday so i think i will get this card but fu*ck i hate the ufc for making me buy this
hey whats goin on guys!!!!! ive been waiting for this one, hamill vs bisbing, who u guys taking?
@Dr.J
I usually agree with your picks, im gonna go with amir on this one, i think Forrest is gonna have a tough time with ramirez, that guys dangerous man!
What i really found odd is that you picked scott smith over ed Herman?? hell no, even tho Herman has had some trouble lately, his skill level is WAY beyond smiths. Hes been in the game for years and years, fighting in pride, abu dhabi, and long time team quest fighter. Scott smith has a punchers chance of catching him before it goes to the ground.. 1st or maximum 2nd round submission vicotry for Herman..
@BV,
yeah the smith vs herman fight is the only one I really wrestled with on this card. In the end I think Herman is going to try to stand with Smith and I think Smith will take him.
bisbing vs hamil is it going to happen,i got hamil i hate the english
ah ok, if thats the case, your right, smith would KO herman on the feet for sure.. I dont know WHY he would want to stand with him besides ego. Its time for Herman to buckle down and stick to what he knows best.. and execute it! ill be pulling for Herman in that fight, im surprised we still see scott smith in the octagon! hes pulled off some crazy wins and hes one of the only almost pure boxers that has managed to make the transition to mma. Sprawl and brawl baby.
I hope they have a PPV replay of this at the normal time I am moving sat and I can’t watch it at 1 o clock in the afternoon. I want to see the Smith Herman fight I hate Herman I hope he gets KTFO. He ran his mouth so much on that show
scott smiths ko over drago honestly got me teary eyed the fight was awesome
I am actually picking Okami to best Rich Franklin… i predict Okami takes the win..
Ed Herman takes the win….
Forrest is a toss up…..
Rory Singer sucks and I can’t stand his insecure over analytical way of interviewing before a fight… he gets surprised every time he wins.. shocks himself.. what a gerle… I think Jason’s gonna win by decision or submission…
Well, the fight results are in…UFC 72 is in the books…and I must say that I am not sorry that I did not order this PPV event. I do not want to spoil the results for anyone who might order it. Like many others here, I think it’s an incredibly ****** fight card considering the flood of fighters coming into the UFC. I guess it was too late to get any other top fighters to sign on in Ireland last minute. At least it’s over, and now we can all look forward to the much better UFC 73 card to come.
im so glad i went on amir u just saved me 40 bucks even though i said i wasnt going to order it i was but not anymore
I hope Denis Kang comes to the UfC he will be a sure threat in the 185 divsion
Denis kang is an animal and will come to the ufc soon imsure but for now i think hes hurt

Dennis Kang is one of the best Middleweight fighters in the world. I’d say he’s easily top 5 in the world at 185
SPEAKING OF WHICH DOC WHERES THE TOP TEN PAGE AT ?
@PATRICK,
The top ten site is going well. I have the site live on a private site right now as I test it. Its functional but I need to add a few more features. Plus I’m working with a designer right now to get the styling looking nice.
Hopefully within the next few weeks it will be done
