At the UFC 73 post-fight press conference, Dana White announced that Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans would have an immediate rematch following their draw on last Saturday nights card. The current general assumption is that this rematch will take place at UFC 77 this coming October in Cincinnati, Ohio. During the post-fight conference while Tito Ortiz was at the podium, the following verbal confrontation between Rashad and Tito took place. Sounds like Rashad has a new found confidence going into the rematch, and after watching the first fight, I think that confidence is valid.
The hype for Ortiz-Evans II began early as Ortiz stepped to the podium to address the media towards the end of the press conference. While Ortiz gave Evans credit for his toughness, Evans wasn’t having any of it, believing he won the match.
“Tito, you were grabbing the cage the whole fight,” said Evans. “Every time I got in on you, you were grabbing the cage [the referee] only called it that one time.”
“What about the Vaseline on your arms?” asked Ortiz, almost shocked that the normally subdued Evans was already in trash talk mode for the rematch. “Whatever, it’s all right bro, we’ll do it again.”
The heated discussion, which took place while Ortiz was at the podium and Evans sat on the dais, brought a nervous smile to White’s face as he no doubt contemplated where and when the sequal would take place.
“You didn’t do nothing, the only thing you did was you took me down and you held me,” said Evans. “Take off your glasses. Let your face tell the story.”
With that, Ortiz took off his glasses and showed his swollen left eye while his girlfriend Jenna Jameson yelled at Evans to show more sportsmanship in the distance.
“If Rashad wants to sit there and talk [stuff] it’s cool,” said Ortiz, whose injured back required a couple of cortisone injections two weeks ago. “It’ll make the second fight that much more interesting.”
Evans still would not let Ortiz off the hook as he tried to field other questions from reporters.
“How about the end of the third round when you laid down there and got pounded like a little [girl]?” asked Rashad.
“How does it feel to be a superstar now after you fought me?” shot back Ortiz.

I think both of these chumps have a lot of nerve talking trash as if they had some incredible, epic battle. The fact of the matter is that they both did absolutely nothing to each other, it was a terrible match-up and again, like many times before it’s us the fans who lost. For the rematch to be anything more than a free Ultimate Fight Night, is completely outrageous. For Rashad to say that he “pounded Tito like a little girl” is ajoke in itself, when did he do that? for about the last 15 seconds OF THE 3RD ROUND?
Anyone see the prelim fights? WOW! they should have squeezed a few of those into the ppv broadcast. Like the Lytle Fight! awesome fight!
guys if rashad would of got the take down when tito grabbed the fence rashad would of won any one agree, whats up with jenna jameson talking about sportsmanship im not going to talk **** about her but i would of called her a few choice names if i was rashad
I think Tito would have lost too Rich! it wasnt one time he grabbed the fence, it started in the first round, then continued on to the second. The funniest thing, after the fight, tito said that “it was a reflex action” to grab the fence, then in his next sentence he said something like “If your not cheating, your not trying” LOLOLOLOLOL did anyone else find that hilarious??
I also noticed a few times tito grabbed the fence was behind his back, close to his body in such a way where it would be hard for Big John to see. LOL Tito maliciously violates the rules and deserved to lose a point, which saved him from losing the fight and he pulled out the draw..
Here’s a comment: WHO THE F–K CARES? it was an incredibly boring fight…15 minutes? are you kidding me? it felt like 5. No one did anything, Rashad spent his chance to become a somebody dancing around, and Tito didn’t damage him either. There were NO TAKEDOWNS, SLAMS, OR EVEN CONSIDERABLE STRIKING EXCHANGES. Both of them deserve to be taken down a notch…trully dispicable.
amir it would of been different if tito wouldnt of grabbed the cage
It would have been different how? a controversial decision for Tito that would have automatically instigated a rematch anyway? the fact of the matter is that the fights that should be happening that we all want to see are not. If Tito would not have grabbed the cage he would have won, Rashad did take Tito down but I guess he forgot it was only a 15 minute fight…so thanks…either way, I don’t see how this is even worth talking about anymore, all I know is that the rematch better be on an incredibly stacked fight card.
I dunno Amir, if Tito didnt hold the fence, Rashaad could have wont he fight, he grabbed the fence maybe 4-5 times to prevent the take down.. give Rashaad another 4 take downs and 4 top positions in that fight and he could have beat Tito.. When Rashaad got the top position in the 3rd, he battered Tito pretty bad.. now im agine that happened in the 1st round..
amir
as a pertty good comment guy this last on is pertty dumb he got the take down with 15seconds yeah and in that 15 seconds he did more damage than the whole fight now if he would of got it in the middle of the second come on guy he would of won either by pound out like he did to the punisher or by decision
Whatever man…any way you cut it, they both had their chances to prove the critics wrong, and they both failed. You must be clueless to think that the rematch is going to be a “freebee”. Unless they put it on a ridiculously stacked card, I mean like 6 other quality fights…I sure as hell aint buyin it.
WHO CARES ABOUT TITO AND RASHAD??!!! OLD NEWS, BORING CRAP!
Let’s see Tito fight Shogun, that would be fun to watch.. lol .. only because I LOVE knockouts, especially when Tito is on the receiving end.. lol
Ohh one other thing.. I think the UFC is to PC.. they have finally come out with the first every Gaaey fighter, TITO “the huntington beach rainbow” ORTIZ!
