The UFC officially announced today that UFC 75: Champion vs Champion will be shown on tape-delay free on SpikeTV starting at 9pm EST. The September 8 event is scheduled to take place in London, England and feature the Light Heavyweight title fight between current UFC champion Quinton Jackson and current PrideFC champion Dan Henderson.
This will mark the first time the UFC has shown a title fight on a non-Pay-Per-View fight card.
“It’s part of my philosophy to always have good fights on free TV,” said UFC president Dana White. “We ask out fans to buy 10 pay-per-views per year, and you can’t give them s— on free TV when you do that.”
Other featured fights at UFC 75 include England native Michael Bisping against Matt Hamill and the return of Mirko Filipovic as he takes on Cheick Kongo.

see i didnt order 72 that should of been free but this will do just fine
maybe this is there way of making up for 72 because they know the fans were pissed for having to pay for a sh*t card
it must have not been that bad cuz i havent heard that it had bad numbers
@ Richard
i think we would be more likely to hear the good numbers than the bad. if i was running the UFC i wouldnt want to let people know that we only got half as many buys as the last one (i dont know if its really half i was just making a point) its a smart business move to point out you good points and avoid the bad.
rj
they must have got like half for sure 72 liked sack for reals
UFC 72 was the first pay per view i didnt buy in like 4 or 5 years. sh*t man i watch fights from orgs people have never even heard of so its gotta be a crap card if i didnt buy it. i really expected more from the top mma promotion in north America, if it was full of fights like Franklin vs. Okami or if it was free then yeah ok but the only fight worth watching was Franklin/Okami and that fight didnt even pump me up even a bit.
did you guys notice they added Patrick Cote Vs. Kendall Grove on UFC74? i know you all probably are thinking “Cote? who cares the guy loses every fight he has” but i really think win or lose this going to be a good scrap.
RJ
i think ur a bit biased cuz cote is from ur neck of the woods
I don’t think anything should be for “free”. I don’t think UFC 72 was good, so I didn’t buy, but I don’t think they are “making up for it” that is not how the biz runs. It is free because of internal organizational issues, not because a bunch of us blogged about how bad the last one sucked, or because of poor numbers. Personally, UFC wants the name to get out more, and they are doing this to invest in name recognition and growth of the sport. Good for them, heck… GOOD FOR US!
I also think the issue is with PPV agreements, international issues, ect.. that is also why it is free for us…
KANSAS
but u would think hendo vs rampage is going to be insane and it would of also generataed a lot of money
Isn’t it funny how everytime we all start bashing Dana White, he reads this and does something like this? Good for him…are all the fights going to be free? or just the title fight?
i was on another site and someone said this
dana white=vince mcmahn/don king
I’m from an MMAly impaired country and I watch all fights online.
long live WWW!!
reds
u have to go to dailymotion.com type in mma and u will be stuck for hours
Richard
LOL your absolutely right! my opinion on Cote or any other Canadian fighter for that matter is very bias lol. thats cool i can admit that no problem. but all bias aside i think Cote vs. Grove is going to be a good fight. i dont know if Cote can beat Grove but it will be fun to watch anyways. it kinda sucks if Cote loses because that would make 5 out of 6 fight in the UFC loses. it too bad he got in to a rut in the UFC (he only has 4 loses all are in UFC) because back when he just fought in TKO and UCC he was a killer i guess the big time is just a little too much for him.
RJ
i noticed cote’s record some guys were just made to fight b level.
RUMORS SHOGUN TO FACE GRIFFIN
I bet you that this fight is only free because not that many people know who Dan Henderson is in North America and Jackson is just starting to get some noriety. However if it was Chuck fighting i guarantee we would be paying money to see this event. Look at it this way, go up to a random guy on the street, be like ever heard of Chuck Liddell? Obviously most will say yes. However ask someone bout Henderson and most will say no. Its a good way to attract the “non hardcore” fans to see a card that they normally would not pay to see because they dont know the fighters.
everyone has to know dan he was on king of queens LOL
i think they might be showing the fight for free because it not a title fight. you dont have to be hardcore to get behind a title vs. title fight people love stuff like that. now that it not a title fight the hardcore fan are kinda pissed and this is a good way to please them a bit.
rj
it is a title fight
Cote is a very frustrating fighter to be a fan of. He walks on the edge of being A level. He just never seems to be able to make it happen. Cote is a good fighter and always has heart when he fights. I’d never turn down a chance to watch a Cote fight.
This Jackson vs Henderson is to unify the belts. So you could actually say there are two titles on the line. Whoever wins this fight will walk away with both belts.
Did anyone notice a Frank Mir vs. Antoni Hardonk fight added to UFC 74? I guess the matchmakers couldn’t let this one get away from Fight Night
I tell ya, some guys just can’t do anything wrong in Dana boys’ eyes. I’m not sure if I want to see an out of shape Mir get beaten to a bloody pulp again. Dana should have a superbowl of recent losers who he loves…let’s see…
Cote
Mir
Din Thomas
every TUF castoff (probably about 30 peeps right there)
ufc is probably going to change ther name to TUF soon
If Mir is in shape, it will be a good fight. I think they jumped him back into the octagon too quickly after his accident, which has been hard on his recovery. I also think that since he is a former champion and was at one time VERY popular, (Dr J used to be a big fan too) and he already has a contract standing with the UFC and needs to exhaust it, why not put his butt on the card, I mean if he has name recognition why not? I know he got fat and sucky, but if he has cut a little bit and gotten back into old form, it could be good to watch… ahh who knows..
I wont lie, sugarcoat it or otherwise, I personally think that had Frank not gotten in that accident, he would be the HWC of the world today, and not Couture, Cro Cop, or anyone could take it from him save Fedor, and in 3 years who would’ve been able to say it couldn’t happen… but the accident did happen, the femur did get broken in half, and Frank has been at 1/3 of what he used to be ever since…. anyone seen any recent pics of Mir, if he is in better physical condition or not?
Frank Mir is one of those boys that is in real good with the Fertittas and Dana, he will always have a job.. .thing is.. I am pulling for him to win this next fight, I really hope he comes back up to full force, he is the one American fight I think has the skill to beat anyone at HW including Fedor, that is at full force.. in tip top shape..
the last thing i heard about Jackson vs. Henderson was that it was not going to be a title fight and the Pride champ would stay the Pride champ and the UFC champ would stay the UFC champ. i will look into it a bit more but i think it a non title fight.
ok i’m an idiot! i guess i should research a bit befor i say sh*t lol. so it is a title unification bout. wow thats awesome its kinda weird that they would give it to us FREE! so everyone can just omit my dumb asss comment (#20) from before. sorry folks i dont really like to make too many uneducated comments.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the significance of “unified titles”?
What will it mean in MMA? is it good, bad, will it eventually lead to so many different belts as in boxing? without one undisputed champion?
what do you guys think?
