Sam Caplan over at FiveOuncesOfPain.com is reporting that Gilbert Melendez will be fighting next on September 29 in the Strikeforce promotion.
Melendez is currently undefeated with a 12-0 record and is widely regarded as one of the top 5 Lightweight fighters in the world. Melendez most recently fought in PrideFC prior to Dreamstage Entertainment selling the promotion to the Fertita’s. After the purchase, Melendez announced he was a free agent and looking to negotiate.
Caplan reports that the fight with Strikeforce is under a previous contract that he had signed in April and is not a fight under a new contract. Matchups for the Strikeforce card have not yet been announced, but Scott Coker has announced that Josh Thomson, Daniel Puder and Bobby Southworth will all appear on the fight card.

wow you guys have way too much to say in the last few days LOL!! anyways i like Melendez i think he will be a very good fighter one day and a future champ. i would have liked to see him in the UFC even more right now with the light weight class all Sherk’d up. they could have brought a young up’n'comming undefeated (hype machine) in to fight BJ for his first loss, BJ would have the title and the up’n'commer could start his career against real contenders and over the next year or so make his way back to the title. just a though.
the ufc better watch out for this strikeforce company there trying there best to get the best fighters
