Paulo Filho Wins WEC Debut

August 5th, 2007 | by Dr J

Paulo FilhoPaulo Filho made short work of Joe Doerksen tonight and easily won his WEC debut in the first round.

Doerksen looked pretty good early on in the round and was fairly crisp with his strikes and kicks. Filho attempted a few loose takedowns early on and Doerksen was able to stuff them. When Filho did manage to get Doerksen to the mat, Joe was able to pull guard and eventually get back to his feet rather easily.

Watching the fight though, it was pretty clear that Paulo Filho’s raw strength and power were going to be a problem for Doerksen. Late in the first round, Filho was able to land a punch to Doerksen’s head that rattle the Canadian, and from there is was just a matter of time before Big John McCarthy stopped the fight due to strikes.
