IFL Still Hemorrhaging Money

August 15th, 2007 | by Dr J

IFL Losing MoneyZach Arnold at FightOpinion.com has a nice writeup on the current financial status of the International Fight League.

The most recent 10-Q report filed the by IFL with the Securities and Exchange Commission shows the sorry financial state of Mixed Martial Arts first team based fight league.

For the three months ended June 30, 2007, we incurred a net loss of $6.9 million, or $0.13 per share, as compared to a net loss of $1.8 million, or $0.10 per share during the comparable period in 2006. For the six months ended June 30, 2007, we incurred a net loss of $13.8 million, or $0.26 per share, as compared to a net loss of $2.4 million, or $0.14 per share, during the comparable period in 2006.

Personally, I’m surprised the IFL has manage to sustain business operations as long as they have already, which really is unfortunate. Head over and read Zach’s article to get more information and analysis as far as what the report really means.

I agree, I do not see how the IFL is still operating. I love MMA, but the team concept to fighting never really interested me. Maybe if they were using top of line fighters I probably would of watched more. What ever the reason, there have been very few fighters or fights for that matter, that drew me to the IFL.

i had a feeling the IFL was going to take a fall. the big name fighters are not going to fight there because the team format makes them fight more often and they have less choice on who they fight. could you imagine Chuck Liddell fighting in a org. that makes him fight 6 times a year and doesnt let him have any say on who he fights? and the super fights they have are to few and far between. i really got pumped about seeing Renzo Gracie vs. Pat Miletich but i couldnt tell you even one other fight on that card. i think BoDog fight is going to have to do something big soon or they are going to be next to take a big hit.

bodog had nice fights the first time around the second the had the emelianako bros then third was head lined that got koed ,for sure they need something fast.but the ifl is having there grand prix i never thought they might be hurting for cash, maybe there going to squash there team format thing soon

This kinda sucks. I was really starting to like the IFL more. After the original stretcher mishap they started to turn the show around. Having free MMA on several times a week was great. I hope they can pull it out because the shows were getting better. I just think they lack the star power to get the kind of attention they need to sell more tickets and get more viewers.
