The UFC held the UFC 74 event media conference call earlier today. According to Sam Caplan, Tim Sylvia will most likely be Brandon Vera’s opponent when he returns to the octagon:
Dana stated on the record that Brandon Vera has a new deal with the UFC. During a followup question he was asked about a possible first opponent and he said it would “probably†be Tim Sylvia. Nothing is official though and Sylvia has to deal with staph infection in addition to his recovery from back surgery.
White said that the UFC and Vera never had contract issues and that it was Vera and his old management that had the contract issues. He took a shot at EliteXC promoter Gary Shaw for making comments about Vera last year when there were reports that terms between UFC and Vera were icy.

This is great news, I think Vera takes this one rather easily and once exposes Sylvia as the biggest sham champion in MMA history. Good for the UFC.

LOL Cool, I was starting to wonder if he had taken your lunch money or something. LOL……Yeah some fighters just are not fan friendly and say dumb things, like Marvin Eastman, I have heard horrible things about this guy. I have not encountered anything personally with Eastman, but I have heard from fighters and fans that for some reason he believes that he is all that. Maybe with lower level fighters, but with the cream of the crop he gets waxed every time. In fact I think his greatest claim to fame is when he knocked out Duke Rufus at K-1. I was in the crowd that night and I over heard Tito Ortiz on the phone in dis-belief what he had just saw. At least in the case of Brandon Vera, he has had success in the UFC.

Sorry about that guys, I live in So. Cal. in Fontana Ca. next to Rancho Cucamonga. I trained for about 8 years until I tore my PCL and developed early arthritis in my ankle. I fought a couple under ground (in-house)NHB fights before fights started being sanctioned by the athletic commisions. I was never going to be a great fighter, I just full filled some goals (I got war stories for the Grand kids …LOL). Now I am a Correctional Officer and I am sill a huge MMA fan, and I discovered MMAHQ and really liked the articles especially the Fighter payouts which I find interesting. So tha world knows my “story”, eveything cool Richy Rich?

I think that Tim Silvia is a hell of a lot better than a lot of you guys give him credit for. For one he has basically one loss in the ufc, (frank mir was lucky), and his one loss was to arguably the best mma fighter of all time. i believe thats an exageration about couture but hes good. And also Sylvia had huge back problems for the fight. Yes he looked like a blob in that fight but watch his earlier fights. Hes good and i think he will definetely beat Vera.

Hey man I don’t bust people, I just leave the light on for them.LOL Back to Vera and Sylvia, I agree with you, it will be a win win situation. I really don’t care who wins, I just don’t see either of them contending for the Heavyweight title………..of course unless all of the great fighters left again. I kind of see both of them on the level of Heath Herring, they could beat a top 5 fighter maybe 3 out of 10 times.

LOL yeah i have a DVDrecorder so i record every fight i can. i watch old fights while i goto sleep. last night i watched Ortiz vs. Shamrock 3 and Jungle Fight 2 and 3. if you havent seen Jungle Fight try to find it, its not bad. in Jungle Fight 2 Gabe Gonzaga fights a street fighter named Charlie Brown and by round 3 Brown is so gassed he just calls it quits. JF3 has a few good fights Babalu vs. Pele, Assuerio Silva vs. Alessio Sakara are two.

I think Tim is gonna come out whipping arse in this fight… he is going to want to vindicate and prove himself, the guy has been about as boring as it gets at times BUT he is one of the most consistent HWC of any MMA org… he comes in and does the deal and wins.. who would have thought he would put Arlovski in a position where everyone now questions Arlovski’s creds? I mean Andrei was gonna be the guy that whipped the crap out of Tim and never look back until Tim knocked him out…
