A new edition of Inside the Cage Radio was released tonight. Sam Caplan and Matt Cava discussed the upcoming UFC 74 event with guest host Luke Thomas from BloodyElbow.com.
You can listen to the show here or download the full episode. Also, I’ve got a special feed for the show setup so you can subscribe to all the episodes as they are released.
Here are some of the key topics that were addressed during the show:
- Now that Wanderlei Silva is signed, what’s next for him?
- Who should Brandon Vera fight in his first match back?
- If Randy Couture loses, will UFC 74 be the last time we see him in the Octagon?
- Does Josh Koscheck have a shot at upsetting GSP?
- Does Kendall Grove vs. Patrick Cote belong on the main card?
- Whether or not Frank Mir’s match vs. Antoni Hardonk is a must-win situation for Mir
- Does Clay Guida have what it takes to upset Marcus Aurelio?
- And much, much more!

Mir MUST win, but I have seen crazier things happen if he doesn’t win and still gets opportunities.
I think Kos definitely has a chance at upsetting GSP. I’d never seen GSP’s chin get tested until the Serra fight, and Kos has improved his striking by leaps and bounds with some legitimate punching power. He also has a huge wrestling advantage over GSP, so I think it can.
Does the Cote/Grove fight belong on the main card?
OF COURSE NOT!!! Kendall Grove does…but Cote should be relegated to the ECW… forever.
@Amir
as much as i dont want to i agree with you on Cote. i love Cote man hes my boy, but i dont know how some fighters can lose over and over and still get another chance. its the same deal as Elvis Sinosic, and what do Pat and Elvis have in common besides the sh*tty UFC record? Tito Ortiz, maybe they both said “ok i will fight the mighty head but you have to give unlimited chance to come back” LOL
I think Cote is one of these guys that thinks he is much better than he really is. He walks around as if he’s some MMA phenom with his smug attitude. I see you like him, but I happen to hate the f–er. As fans, I think we lose out when he comes out there pretending to be this awesome fighter and then plays a staring match with his opponent…(ex. Scott Smith).
I def agree with you guys about Cote. Looking at his swagger, he is a badass. But a 1-4 UFC record is the opposite of badass.
Grove will get his shot on the PPV in ‘08. We may see him on some UFC Fight Night’s first.
Thanks for listening to the show and big thanks for MMAHQ for posting it.

YO… YEA COTE SUCKS… IN MY OPINION
cote was undefeated until he came to the ufc ,but a fighter that i think got robbed big time PAUL BUENTELLO one loss in the ufc and he was out bull if u ask me
whoa.. that show was like an hour long man! lol but i listened to it all. I cant address everything they talked about, but there were a few points that stuck out to me..
I was surprised to hear that all the show hosts agree with me about the fact that Huerta is yet to be tested. Everyone always just talks about how great he is and id love to see him prove it, but as of right now im not quite convinced.
That one guy is convinced that Pellegrino is going to destroy Joe Daddy in the first round must be smokin something hehe. Stevenson all the way for me.
I like how he picked Kos to win though.. Personally i think the fight is a toss up an it could go either way. If i had to pick i would probably say Kos, just a gut feeling. Kos is still something of an enigma because his game has changed so much and like they mentioned on the show, GSP is having some problems mentally after losing to Serra. As i said before lets hope he doesnt pull a loiseau..
What else?? oh Randy vs Gonzaga.. i think that ones a toss up too.. but if i had to pick id say Randy, haha dont bet against Randy baby!
AHAHAH yooooo, you guys ever watch that show “so you wanna fight”?
if randy loses would he still fight
@Nathan
In my opinion no… Couture would have to retire… like he has been saying.. when he came into the picture to fight for the HW title, it was the Sylvia/Arlovski show mainly, now the competition is super fierce, deadly and thick, he cannot compete at his age on a continual basis, (every 3-6 months) with guys like Cro Cop, Nog, Monson, or Gonzaga…. its just gonna get thicker with Pride gone, and if he dropped back down to 205, well, that would be worse, there you have the Chuteboxe boys Wand and Shogun, then there is still Liddell, Henderson, Jackson, ect ect… way too much for Couture to jump into … he is like Holyfield, he is great, and timeless, to a certain extent… I think he has sealed his legacy and should be the grandpa of MMA now, mentoring the kids… lol
kansas
i think u overestimate ur brazilian fighters i think it would be a prime time for randy to drop to 205 hes still an awesome fighter no matter the age
@B.V.
lol yeah bro So You Wanna Fight is a great show, it was the reason i got the Fight Network in the first place. back when the Fight Network first started they didnt show very much mma just some TKO and UCC and once in a blue moon they would show some PRIDE. now they show just about everything except UFC.
p.s. So You Wanna Fight has pay per view events so if you got $13 lying around and you wanna good laugh…
@Richard
The fighters are fighters.. you keep saying “your Brazilian fighters” and making things seem like I am all about Brazilians only.. I like Couture, but he is 43 I think.. WAKE UP BRO.. did you listen to the Radio commentary on this post.. MOST OF THE COMMENTATORS AGREE with my point of view and most of the people posting agree that Wandi is going to eventually win the title in short order… you are blinded by your patriotism, this is fighting not war or economy or politics.. it just so happens that Gracie, Silva, (both of them), Rua, and Gonzaga are huge right now.. I cannot help it that Rich Franklin lost to a Brazilian, or that Wand is a legend, or that Rua is ranked #1 in the world and that the UFC chump Rampage has been beaten by both of the Brazi Chuteboxers .. its just the facts, MMA started in Brazil with Vale Tudo, that is a fact, Gracie brought it here to the U.S. thru the UFC tourneys.. if you want to get mad at that fine, but dont get mad at me for liking the best fighters in world who just happen to in part be Brazilian or Russian, or Croatian..
@Richard
I think you overestimate “captain america”… he is past his prime and this will be his last stand, my prediction is that win or lose this is his last great fight.. after this it will only be losses, he is too old, just like gracie and shamrock
kansas
i like brazilian fighters ,i am patriotic but it doesnt hender my opinions of fighters i to think the are some of the greatest in the world my freind.But i cant wait until this weekend ,cuz either one of two things will happen couture will win and i will be rubbing it in your face or gonzaga will expose randys age then u will be rubbing it in my face either way its gonna be a good weekend.
guys i watched a fight that changed my views on SHOGUN,u guys ever seen the little nog fight with shogun ,shogun was getting his azzzz kicked pertty bad ,i think little nog won that fight.
@Richard
Im not counting out Randy man, ever again! Its a tossup with him an Gonzaga, and i would like to see Randy keep fighting. Though i dont think it would be a good idea o drop down to 205. Theres too many heavy hitting strikers in the division now, he should stay at heavy.
Ill never underestimate Randy guys, but at the same time, i fear for his safety, what else does he have to prove? that hes the best in the world? that he can beat Fedor? I dont think it really matters. I dont really want to see him fight Fedor because i think hes too small to handle Fedor and i dont wanna see Randy get hurt.
@RJ
I watched “so you wanna fight” 66 yesterday, it was the funniest thing ive ever seen lol. I mean they get these big tough guys all covered with tats, then they ring the bell and it looks like a g*ay slap fight. Guys tripping over their own feet causign self inflicted knockdowns. I saw one guy way overextend a right hook and fall on his face, then grab the other guys foot and cause him to fall too LOL. Its hilarious man! then as the tourney progresses you can see the guys with any fighting knowledge pull ahead of the wild swinging hillbillys. Thats when it got a bit more serious, but not much. Especially with the commentators ridiculing these guys the whole time..
LOL this one part, the fighters corner was like “what are you doing?? put your hands up!” and the fighter put up his arms as if he was at gun point! LOLOLOL i guess he should have said keep your guard up lol.
If you guys never seen it, check it out, its worth a few laughs, way better than regular boxing thats for sure.
bvrasp
were can i see this at?
@Richard
i used to watch it all the time on the Fight Network other then that im not too sure.
@B.V.
did you ever notice that the two dudes that host the show, that look a lot like aging wannabe bikers by the way also do commentary and even funnier then that is they corner the fighters too!! LMFAO you guys all NEED to see this show or your life will not be complete. do they still have two, one min. rounds? i havent watch it for a while and the show was getting bigger when i stopped watching so i was expecting some rule changes.
http://www.soyouwannafight.com/ duh why didnt i think of this in the beginning lol.
