Will former collegiate wrestling and WWE star Brock Lesnar be announced as the newest UFC heavyweight tonight on the UFC 74: Respect Pay-Per-View? There is a good chance he might be.
Lesnar announced in an interview with MMAWeekly.com this past week that he would be in attendance at UFC 74 tonight. Yesterday, Dave Meltzer from WrestlingObserver.com revealed that Lesnar and UFC President Dana White had a meeting scheduled for this afternoon.
If the UFC gives any camera time to Lesnar tonight at the show, you can almost assuredly assume that Lesnar either already has or will soon have a deal signed with the UFC.
What would Lesnar bring to the UFC heavyweight division? In my opinion, nothing at all. Had it been a year ago, I would say Lesnar would have energized a weak heavyweight division and at least brought a fresh new face. Now, adding Lesnar seems like an aftershot and a weak attention grab.

u have to admit that brock in the ufc might bring in more viewers for the ufc which translates to more money

I generally bag on this guy pretty bad, however after talking with my boss yesterday, who was 5th in his division as a collegiate wrestler from 1997-1999, he trained with Lesner in Minnesota, before Lesner was famous and he says Lesner is one of the best take down wrestlers out there, he was a beast before the roids, and he is super strong with or without them. He thinks Lesner could be a top 5 fighter like Fedor within 4 years if he trains with Couture and company… I dunno, I think my boss is a little biased, but you never know, he IS a REAL wrestler with REAL take down and ground manipulation skills, put that with some BJJ and boxing, and you have a real fighter in the HWD.. not to mention name recognition, American fighter status for the patriotic crowd, and an attendance draw from some of the WWE crowd… I think it would be worth a shot, at least a 3 contract deal or put him on TUF as a competitor first, that would be GREAT!…. talk about drama!
yea, thats what i was saying Kansas, Have TUF full of big name wrestlers and boxers who want to be mma fighters. Like Tommy Morrison, Lesnar, etc.. it would definately be packed with drama lol.
Yeah, I don’t know what would be bigger … the DRAMA…. or the EGO’S?!?!

The TUF idea is great, I wonder if Dana has even thought about that. I believe that would draw a bigger fan base, in turn mo’ $ for the Zuffa clan………Yo Dana make it happen bud!!!……LOL
lesner could be a good move for the ufc… go randy and gsp….
Brock=PPV Numbers
Brock=Future #1 contender
It would be a sound business decision and the fact is, like him or not, he would be a contender in a couple of years if not sooner. Fact is, Brock wasn’t the best pro wrestler in the fact that he had a hard time “faking it”. He’s a legit wrestler and if he learns to strike properly, watch out.
This guy is an animal…I think it would be very entertaining watching him compete. He carries his size very well and is extremely athletic for his size, unlike Tim Sylvia.
How is signing a collegiate wrestling champion an weak attention grab? People are too quick to pass off Lesnar as a just a pro wrestler. Look at all the other successful fighters in the UFC that have a college wrestling backround? I think Brock Lesnar is going to surprise a lot of people when he makes his UFC debut.
the fact is wrestling is a great base skill espically one of his calibur so i think he will shock us to
Yeah, I think wrestling is a good BASE skill, but he better start building on that BASE or he is gonna get knocked out by someone like Gonzaga unless he too trains with Wand for a month or two and learns to clinch/Muay Thai elbow strike…. lol
