Renato Sobral vs David Heath

August 27th, 2007 | by Dr J

For those of you that haven’t been able to see the Renato Sobral vs David Heath fight from UFC 74: Respect yet, here it is. Watch it while you can because I’m not sure how long this will still be up.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has already fined Sobral 50% ($25,000) of his fight purse for holding the choke and his comments afterwards and my guess is further fines or suspensions will be coming soon.

i thought that the Penn choke looked worse, and im a huge Penn fan

Comment by Dr J about 1 year, 3 months ago

@Hunter,

I agree about the Penn vs Pulver fight. Penn held on a little extra as well. However, there is one big difference between the two: Heath tapped out ahead of time.

dont be talking smack to a world class fighter cuz this might happen.WHERE HAS THIS BABALOU BEEN?HE WAS AN ANIMAL IN THIS FIGHT

Comment by Ozzy about 1 year, 3 months ago

Sobral should not of said that he did it on purpose…..and everything would of been alright. It’s kinda like when pitchers throw at a guy during a game. They are not going to say they did it on purpose…..but everyone knows they were trying to hit the guy. Sobral gave the athletic commission with no other choice. They have to fine him to keep the integrity of the sport growing. Even though MMA is the most technical sport in the world, there are still many that consider it “Human cockfighting”. With stupid comments like the one from Sobral MMA will have a tough time breaking way from the negative stigma of being barbaric.

@Ozzy
I see your point, however the punishment is excessive, Babalou Sobral came in and did the deed, and again like I said in another post, Penn’s choke was worse and B.J. INFORMED US BEFORE THE FIGHT THAT HE WOULD DO THAT.. the difference is that Penn is a former champ and very popular…. I am a huge Penn fan by the way and think that neither of these guys should be publicly reprimanded…. maybe fined 30% of their purse.. but the UFC is building a slam campaign against Sobral and I think it is because they want to end his contract, he has disappointed up until this fight for some time now..

Comment by MMAKansas about 1 year, 3 months ago

Whats up with Sherk anyways.. notice that they haven’t built a slam campaign against one of their boys… he is in the inner circle, a “yes man” if you will..

@Richard
You asked where babalou had been because he was an animal in this fight… JAIL AMIGO! lol!

Comment by R.J. St.Croix about 1 year, 3 months ago

when i first read about this fight i heard Babalu held the choke in for an extra 5 to 7 sec. witch is total crap… i doubt if he held it for even an extra 3 sec. it was a bit much, but not too over board. its like Ozzy said he shouldnt has said he did it on purpose and he probably would have been fine.

Comment by Amir about 1 year, 3 months ago

That was the bloodiest fight have ever seen!!! I knew when I saw the first televised fight that there was a huge amount of blood already on the Octagon floor and it had to come from somewhere.

Comment by bvrasp about 1 year, 3 months ago

Ya it was bloody Amir.. but not the bloodiest.. have to say Joe Daddy vs Yves Edwards was the bloodiest ever.. man, he must have got a transfusion after that fight lol

Comment by bvrasp about 1 year, 3 months ago

About the Babalu thing, ya he was wrong to do what he did, i personally hate it when guys do that in training. My buddy especially likes to do that, its a btch move man, cuz now im thinking, once i lock you up im gonna put you to sleep. In the end it comprimises the whole point of training and it becomes a childish competition. Its stupid, its juvenile, its dishonorable and thats just in training…

To do it in an actual fight, thats even worse.. i agree with the fine to Babalu, and i disagree with the BJ result. I think BJ should have been more severely punished for that, and everyone should be. This kind of behavious should not be tolerated, its basically still attacking the guy when the fight is over in my opinion.

Like if you knock a guy out and the ref calls the fight, then you go over and start kicking him while hes down, thats what it equates as to me.

very good point B.V. when i first seen it i was thinking its not that bad, but looking at it like that i fully agree with you.

Comment by PATRICK about 1 year, 3 months ago

SUP DUDES….. I AGREE WITH WHAT BABALU DID….. GO RENATO!!!!!!!!!

Comment by richard about 1 year, 3 months ago

but some of these guys like to talk a lot of smack ,is that professional no so why does the other fighter have to be professional i doubt it if heath is going to talk smack again

@BV
I see your point and disagree here amigo…. there is a difference in holding a choke for an extra 2-3 seconds after the tap and beating/hurting someone after a fight is over…. Bab’s made a point, Heath was a jerk and deserved it… whatever… its over and I think the punishment is excessive.. I have seen worse, like Tyson biting off Holyfield’s ear… now that is freaking excessive, or punching a guy or kicking a guy after the bell, uncalled for, it can draw blood, or cause serious damage and is unsportsmanlike, an extra 2-3 seconds on a choke hold for a total of 10 seconds or less, (most likely less) … you get dizzy, maybe go to sleep for a few seconds max, sure it’s unsportsmanlike and you don’t want that kind of thing to escalate in MMA soooooo… give Bab’s a $150o fine like ol’ Nicole Richie and let it go.. its not GOLF.. its FIGHTING.. just my thoughts on that…we can all agree to disagree sometimes.. lol

Comment by richard about 1 year, 3 months ago

true these guys are fighters ,and tysons stunt was like ten times worse ,plus bobalou looked awesome

Comment by bvrasp about 1 year, 3 months ago

ya, i see what your saying Kansas, en extra 2-3 secods isnt exactly the end of the world, but if you dont punish the guy and basically enforce the rules of mma, it will happen more and worse. Unruly sht happens in all sports, and it should always be put in check.

Look at hockey, seriously, its ridiculous, i like a fight as much as anyone else, but to condone and egg on fistfights and its basically part of the game. The stupidest thing ive ever heard.. if thats the case, the SHOULD be fighting in golf as well, but how great would tiger be after getting his arms broken a few times? Compromises the sport and puts the real athletes at risk.. its great for the goons i guess, atleast they have a job..

My Lord man! They kicked Babalu Sobral OUT OF THE UFC for an extra 3 second choke! Holy crap batman! I guess BJ was too valuable, or perhaps Babs is being thrown to the media lions to compensate for all the steroids and attitudes lately…. pure crap!

Comment by Valmyre about 1 year, 3 months ago

Kicking him out of the UFC is probably harsh for a punishment. I think the issue was escalated to this height by Heath going unconscious. It’s one thing to give a guy a little extra punishment but, to acutally make them pass out for mouthing off is uncalled for.

What exactly did Heath say? Ive seen the weigh-ins when it first was aired but couldnt hear anything. About Sobral being kicked out of the UFC, good for Sobral, its better for him. They shouldnt have taken his 25Gs though. Just let him go with his rightfully deserved earnings. The UFC is so watered down with american bullsh*t that its not even real fighting anymore. Fighting IS barbaric, only weaklings would disagree and pretend its a “sport”. People who think that way NEVER have had a real fight. Keep watching WWE and stay scared by reality. Americans are such pus*ies they limit EVERYTHING they do now. What a shame. Supposed freedom in america is truly slavery. Americans need to watch their mouths and actions. You arent ready for reality yet. Keep living in your illusory dreams.

Shut up idiot…. too much freedom becomes anarchy and despotism, too much restraint becomes socialism which has never worked… too much of your bullcrap commentaries makes me sick, so go away ..

@IDIOT.. or better known now as MoneyIsEvilAndRuinsYourMind

Fighting is fighting… but anarchy is unacceptable, without sanctioning, people would die in this sport… WWE is just dumb… but in sports like boxing and football and mma you HAVE to have regulations and sanctioning, if you just want to live by animal instinct, then you are no better than a jungle rat, so might as well go live in the jungle Tarzan..

MoneyIsEvilAndRuinsYourMind

You sure do talk a lot of **** on a country who has provided this PLANET with some of the best fighting people could ever ask for. If your Canadian, I feel sorry for you, and if your an American: quit ******* running your mouth about how ****** this country is. Go live in Riad and tell me how much MMA coverage you get over there. Your mad at your Father not at me. Also, dont ever speak of the WWE on this site again. Go beat off to your John Cena poster and shut the **** up.
