Loretta Hunt at TheFightNetwork.com is reporting that Joe Riggs has left World Extreme Cagefighting and signed a contract with Strikeforce. Riggs will reportedly make his Strikeforce debut on September 29 in Los Angeles where he will fight current Stikeforce champion Eugene “The Wolf” Jackson for the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship belt. Both Jackson and Riggs are UFC veterans.
According to Hunt,
The seven-time UFC veteran says he recently asked promoters Zuffa LLC. to release him from a four-fight co-promotional contract with its sister organization World Extreme Cagefighting to pursue more lucrative offers that would entail less fights.
Hoping to return to the WEC following a tune-up victory over Dan Chambers at Canada’s Hardcore Championship Fighting in July, Riggs claims a previous offer to fight Jason “Mayhem†Miller has been pulled from the table.
It proved to be one of the final straws, according to the Arizona fighter. Earlier that year, Riggs says the WEC had unceremoniously stripped him of his middleweight title with little reason other than the promotion had too many title bouts scheduled for a card Riggs ended dropping off from.
Riggs has had a tough past few years suffering the loss of his child, back-to-back surgeries and overcoming and addiction to painkillers. All “Diesel” is looking for is some respect for his collective body of work in MMA:
I feel like I’m the Rodney Dangerfield of this sport, says Riggs. I’ve beat Kendall Grove, Nick Diaz, and Chris Lytle, but all people can remember is me getting knocked out by Diego Sanchez.

Doc what do you know of the guy Gray Maynard is fighting. As of now i have 9000 dollars on Maynard losing. If that happens ill have like 55 grand in the bank. So do u know if he matches up well against him at all?
the way i see it is if your going to bet on a long shot for the next card thats the right one. nether of them has more then a hand full of fights. based on there records it seems like Veres is the more well rounded fighter but Maynard is a very good wrestler. i wouldnt bet the farm on this one, but what the hell do i know i was the guy who laughed at you when you said you put every cent on Kongo. hope this helps a bit.
well personally, i picked Maynard to win TUF 5, and i also think he got robbed bigtime in his last fight. I mean, the guy tapped out! I can see Gray being very determined to win this next fight, i would advise against it zak.. Like i said, the all in thing work everytime except for the last time.. how much will you have if you lose?
zak
if this other guy has good bjj go for it man

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STUFF ON THE SIDES THAT HAD SNIPPETS OF OTHER ARTICLES FROM OTHER SITES?
guys did anyone else notice that in the beginning of ufc 75 they said brought to u commercial free, then there were a sh*it load of commercials?
@Richard
I’m pretty sure they just said that the main event would be commercial free.
Also, the news feeds on the sidebar I’m still working on them. I tried updating the system with a new plugin I wrote but it was breaking some other stuff so I took it off until I can get the whole thing figured out and working completely right.
People dog on Riggs a lot, but I think he’s a solid fighter. He could be a contender just about anywhere outside the ufc when he’s on. I think EliteXC will be a great avenue for him, and get out from under that Zuffa umbrella. Also you guys need to start going to the forums..lol. I’m guilty of it too, but now I have a post in there and its been empty for over a day.
but if it means if he can do good against semi good fighters but never advance to top level fighting shouldnt he just stop?
Sorry Richard you’ll never be president, hell you probably won’t even make it to congress. Guess you’ll have to leave the country.
JOE RIGGS SUCKS ***… JUST A GATE KEEPER
maxxx
what the hell does that mean?
@Richard,
The news listing in the sidebar should be back up now

lol yes thats awesome.
ok Zak i dont think you understood what i said.. I didnt mean last time, i meant “the last time”. Like if you bet it all and lose, you will have zero. If you really want to bet big, you should leave yourself 1000 in your account, that way, even if you lose your back to square 1, but not bankrupt.
I also noticed that fight is the biggest paying one, theres a reason for that though. I would bet the farm on Gray, but it wouldnt pay much so why bother?
good luck tho…
Richard…it means that just because a fighter will likely never be #1 in the division doesn’t mean he can’t bring something worth while to the table. There is plenty of room for fighters like Riggs, as there are plenty of fighters like Riggs that I’m willing to pay to see fight.
ya, i like Riggs, hes a tough dude, he was the UFC welterwight gatekeeper. I dont really watch WEC or Strikeforce, so it looks like Riggs is off my radar anyways.
OH DOC ITS A TRUE COMMENT
OH DOC ITS A TRUE COMMENT
hahaha…
I had to break it out on someone, so I figured you wouldnt mind
NO ITS COOL DOC….
ANY NEWS ON ARLOVSKI DOC?
I dont really watch WEC or Strikeforce, so it looks like Riggs is off my radar anyways.
Wow you are being deprived some seriously good fights and fighters by limiting yourself to just the UFC. WEC is one of the few places where featherweights and bantamweights are getting any big stage. If you haven’t seen Urijah Faber or Chase Beebee…you are missing out.
chase beebe is awesome i was impressed with his last fight , maxx but it just seems like a waste of time for riggs who just cant seem to step up his game.Oh and f u for making fun of me!

actually i will have 967 dollars if i lose. Which is probably more than you have. j/k
well, i cant say ive never seen WEC, because i have.. it just doesnt have the same appeal as the UFC tho. Same thing with the other small mma organizations, theyre ok, just nothing amazing. I was into IFL for a while, but my hometown boys kept getting their azzz kicked! hehe
So basically i only watch the smaller shows when someone interesting is on the card. K1 got alot of good fighters these days, yet they still come short on the actual fight card for some reason.. hmm..
Even Abu Dhabi has lost some of its flair lately.. maybe its because the UFC is so exciting these days the other shows pale in comparison.
