Leland Chapman Makes Pro MMA Debut - UPDATED

October 4th, 2007 | by Dr J

Leland ChapmanIf you have no idea who Leland Chapman is, that is perfectly normal and you can just skip this article. For those of you who share the same weird fascination with Dog the Bounty Hunter like I do, keep reading.

No Limit Fighting will hold their Brawl for it All even on October 20th in San Francisco, CA and the fight card will feature the professional MMA debut of Leland Chapman, Dwayne “Dog” Chapman’s son.

No Limit Fighting

But Leland isn’t the only attraction for this fight card; not by the least. Did I forget to mention that the fight card also will feature former UFC fighters Jeff Monson, Nick Diaz, Gabe Ruediger and Brad Imes as well as Charles “Krazy horse” Bennett, Reuben Villarreal, Mia St. John and Bo Cantrell.

If you have never heard of No Limit Fighting before now, don’t feel bad; neither had I. But this fight card is nothing to sneeze at as it features some excellent fighters. Granted the matchups might not be that even, but the names on the fight card are definitely deserving of attention. And, of course, the Dog himself will probably be there in attendance with Youngblood and Baby Lisa.

“Thus saith the Dog…”

[HT: MMATKO]

** UPDATE **

Apparently, Nick Diaz was an interview gues on Sherdog Radio today and when asked about his fight on the No Limit Fighting card, Diaz replied that he had never anything about a fight on the card with Mark Moreno. This seems to make sense considering that Diaz just fought in the EliteXC and is probably still recovering from the staph infection he had at the time. Still, Diaz is a well-known pot-head and could just have easily forgotten about the fight (sarcasm). Doesn’t bode well for the No Limit Fighting show and their legitimacy.

I supprised Diaz is fighting so quickly after his staph infection. Crazy horse is pretty entertaining also sounds like a decent event.

This is Leland’s first pro fight. I know he has fought some amateur fights locally in Hawaii but I have no idea what his amateur record is.

oh man this bad news for me…. my wife has a thing for fighters (GSP, Chuck Liddell) and shes madly in love with Leland. lol how the hell can i compete with Leland being a fighter? i hope this isnt another celebrity trying to be something hes not like when an actor trys to make a hit album and it sucks, im looking at you Paris Hilton or when a non actor trys to act and sucks, again im looking at you Paris Hilton. just because you like MMA a lot doesnt mean you can go and do it and someone like Leland Chapman would have a way easier time getting a fight then someone like me just because hes on t.v. i just hope he takes it serious and trains his asss off and puts on a good fight.

dont get me wrong im not trying to say Leland is faking it or not a real fighter or anything, i was just saying i hope he is for real. you can correct me if im wrong but the last thing i heard on the subject was that Leland was not going to compete in MMA because he didnt feel that his skill were up to par with the fighters of today. that leads me to believe that he is taking it serious and knows he needs to work very hard to compete at a pro level.

I wonder if he has any connection to BJ Penn’s academy there…

does anyone know how much it is to get into like bj academy or mfs?

I am pretty sure Dog hates watching fight sports. I remember an episodes where Beth begged hi to to one of the ICON or Superbrawl events. He couldn’t stand it and had to leave. I believe his reasoning was that he does it all day as a job and has no desire to watch it for entertainment. I’ll be watching with interest as I liked Leland on the show and always thought he’d be scrappy in the ring.

I’m sure it’s pretty expensive because of the name recognition. Just like Jackson’s camp down in New Mexico they have starter programs but you will not be training with the top MMA guys. I’ve been training BJJ at Amal Eastons accademy for a few months now here in Colorado and it’s around $200 a month. Amal recieved his black belt from Renzo Gracie in Brazil so the school is part of team Gracie so it may be a little more than normal. I would think BJ’s and MFS would be even more because of the recognition they recieve from the UFC, IFL and other MMA promotions. Duane Bang Ludwig teaches mui tai and kickboxing at Eastons and there are a few pro fighters that train there also so it’s a good school. It just depends how serious you are about training. If you want to make it all the way to competition level it takes years and a lot of money and dedication.

HEY DOC… WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THIS KID FIGHTING?

Comment by Dr J about 1 year ago

The whole fight card was canceled so no one fought at all. Although one of Leland’s trainers KO’d Don Frye backstage after the show was canceled.

i dont know any details other then what you see. if that fight was in the resent past he will need to do a lot of work and have to brush up his skills quite a bit to be able to compete at a pro level.
