MMAWeekly.com is reporting that Leonard Garcia will move from the UFC’s lightweight division (155 lb) to the WEC’s featherweight (145 lb) division.
Garcia made his UFC debut against Roger Huerta at UFC 69 in what was one of the best fights of the year. After losing the tough decision to Huerta, Garcia submitted Allan Berube and most recently lost by decision to Cole Miller.
According to Greg Jackson, Garcia’s trainer:
“Leonard (Garcia) is such a great fighter and a strong guy, but he walks around at like three pounds over weight,” said Jackson about his fighter’s move to featherweight. “He had to eat the morning of the weigh-ins the last time. We’ve got to bring him down a weight class where he’s going to be more effective.”
Garcia will join a very solid WEC featherweight division with fighters like Jens Pulver, Jeff Curran, Cub Swanson, and current title holder Urijah Faber.
