The Ultimate Fighter 6: Team Serra vs Team Hughes wraps up this Saturday night in Las Vegas as Mac Danzig and Tommy Speer will face off for the TUF 6 “crown”. The fight card will feature the contestants from the TUF 6 season and be headlined by a lightweight battle between Roger Huerta and Clay Guida.
Main Card
Roger Huerta vs. Clay Guida - I know its probably bad luck to say this before the fight even happens, but this bout between Roger Huerta and Clay Guida could easily end up being a candidate for fight of the year honors. As exciting as Huerta’s fight with Leonard Garcia was at UFC 69, this fight with Guida could be even more fast-paced.
Huerta is currently riding a 15 fight winning streak, but still has received criticism for the perceived lack of quality opponents he has faced. Each of the five fights Huerta has had in the UFC has been against a fighter making their UFC debut. That, of course, will not be the case with Clay Guida.
Since joining the UFC at UFC 64, Guida has made numerous fans for his hard-nosed style of fighting and frenetic pace. Beneath all that speed and greasy hair lies a fighter who skilled at his job and just flat out loves to fight. Guida most recently spoiled the UFC debut of Marcus Aurelio after losing two very close decision losses to Tyson Griffin and Din Thomas.
Guida will give Huerta everything he can handle in this fight. Guida has shown he can hang with the best wrestlers (of which Huerta is not one) like Griffin and Josh Thompson. Clay has also shown he can stand and trade with the better strikers like Gilbert Melendez. Huerta definitely has the tools to win this fight and will be and already is an excellent lightweight fighter. However, Guida is just one of those fighters that is so very dangerous to match up against and will keep you on your guard for the full 15 minutes. Expect some fireworks in this one boys, and sit back and enjoy the show. Winner: Clay Guida
Mac Danzig vs. Tommy Speer - For a season dominated by Team Serra, it’s only fitting that both fighters in the finale are from Team Hughes; especially considering the fact that Serra had to withdraw from his fight with Hughes due to injury. In my opinion, this fight will come down to one thing - experience. For all the brute strength and wrestling prowess that Tommy Speer will bring to the fight, he simply cannot match Danzig’s fight experience. Danzig is a long time King of the Cage veteran and most recently fought a tough fight against Hayato Sakurai in the now defunct PrideFC. Danzig knows his way on the ground and has a decent jiu-jitsu game. Danzig’s standup is more well-rounded than Speer’s his experience will allow him to be a lot more calm and composed than his opponent. Winner: Mac Danzig
Jared Rollins vs. Jon Koppenhaver - Not sure at all why this fight ended up on the main card; possibly because of the scuffle the two had on the show as a result of the “upper-deck” incident. Neither fighter is very impressive. Rollins’ last fight was a loss to Akira Kikuchi, a top ten lightweight fighter. Koppenhaver’s last fight was a win way back in September of 2006. While this fight could be decent due to the faster pace Rollins will bring, I don’t expect much out of either guy. Winner: Jared Rollins
George Sotiropoulous vs. Billy Miles - This fight can be broken down simply: everything that Billy Miles is good at, George is just that much better at. George is simply the better fighter with more experience than Miles. Winner: George Sotiropoulous

Ben Saunders vs. Dan Barrera - Winner: Ben Saunders
Matt Arroyo vs. Jon Kolosci - Winner: Matt Arroyo
Troy Mandaloniz vs. Richie Hightower - Winner: Troy Mandaloniz

I’m going with Huerta in the main event. This fight is going to be a war but I have a feeling Huerta will pull off the decision. Tommy vs Mac shoud be alright. Danzig should be able to take the fight pretty easily in my opinion. Tommy always seems to end up in bad submissions then narrowly escapes. I don’t see him getting out of trouble fron Mac. The eye gouge tactic may be Tommy’s best chance of winning. It worked against George so maybe he can be the next Liddell with it. I kinda wish they were going to show the Dorian vs Roman fight. I think Roman will win this fight. The guy has heart and was willing to fight even though he was injured unlike Arroyo. If Dorian has improved his ground game he can win but I don’t think he’s had enough time.

Not sure what the issue is man. I only run Mac and Linux machines so I really dont know. Its definitely some kind of IE or Windows problem though. I’ll try to find a Windows machine and see if I can figure out the problem.

I agree that it could be the fight of the year, simply because of the amount of stamina both guys bring to the octagon. Firstly theyre LW fighters who always set a higher pace, its also a 3 rounder so they wont be holding anything back for the later rounds. It should be a sprint through the whole fight with tons of action both on the feet and on the ground.
Huerta has an edge in the striking, while Guida has an edge in the wrestling, but Huerta also has a solid BJJ game. Im guessing Huerta will try and work his striking and Guida will shoot for the takedown after some brief exchanges on the feet. Im sure Guida wont be able to submit Huerta, but if he gets frequent takedowns and manages to lay on top of Huerta and control him, he could win a decision. I really hope that doest happen though and i know Huerta will be trying to scramble and avoid getting put in a bad position on the ground which he probably feels is Guidas only chance to win the fight.
Im picking Huerta to win, he has connect cleanly and stun Guida then pounce on him to get the stoppage. If that doesnt happen, he will have to make sure he scores alot of points even if they dont do damage and avoid the takedowns and he could get the decision.
oh one other thing Doc, are the weigh-ins at 6pm eastern time?and will you be putting up a link for the lazy people? hehe
as for the other fights on this card, Mac.. no brainer, i picked him to win from the beginning based solely on experience.. especially when i saw that loss to Sakurai on his record. Those are the kind of losses that still look good on your resume hehe. Lets hope he fares better for me that Maynard and Herman that i picked in earlier seasons.
the other fights.. i agree with all your picks doc, except i think i took Hightower over Troy. Wasnt Troy the guy who trains with BJ but has no ground game? lol.
The Utlimate Fighter 6 Finale weigh-ins are today and they will be open to the public for those that are in the Nevada state area.
The weigh-ins will be held at the Palms Hotel and Casino in the Key West Ballroom on the first floor of that building (4321 W Flamingo Road off the Las Vegas strip). The event will take place from 3pm PT until 4:30pm PT.
Unfortunately, the weigh-ins will not be televised nor streamed online. However, UFC.com will most likely provide the highlights on today’s event at their website some time later today.

I would do the web cam if I had one. I’m pretty excited for the Guida vs Huerta fight also. I think Roger will end up with a split decision win. Both guys are cardio machines and push the pace so it should be great. Guida has had trouble finishing oponents so I doubt he will be able to finish Huerta. Roger has finished most of his fights but Guida is a big step up in competition and though to beat so I think a decision is about the only outcome but you never know. I just read HD net fights that Cuban owns is going to show Fedors fight live. They also have JZ vs Aoki on the card so this is good news. They will also be showing the IFL finals but it’s the same night as the UFC so I’ll have to DVR it. After a month or so without much MMA it’s starting to pick back up again.
Who are you guys picking for the WEC event on Wednesday? Curran is tough and I think he has a good chance but Faber is a beast right now. I think Faber will be able to finish him but it will be a close fight in my opinion. Filho should be able to defend his belt as well he really belongs in the UFC. At least Hendo broke down and decided to cut to 185 to challenge Silva. Should be a good week of fights.

also for you kickboxing fans with the Fight channel if you feel like staying up real late they will be showing K-1 world grand prix 2007 finals and there is a bunch of really good fighter competing in it. its not on till 3am but they will be showing it again a few times tomorrow. even if you dont like kickboxing much you should check this out if you can there should be some really good fights.

I dont get the fight network.. i would have a dish if i could but im on the wrong side of the building.. sucks bigtime, i even talked to my neighbor across the hall if i could set up my dish at his place lol he didnt go for it. Then i talked to the super and nothing is allowed on the roof either. To top it all off tv cable is part of my maintenance bill so its included but at a basic package and i cant modify it unless i want to get a whole new setup then i would have to pay for my cable twice because it cant be separaqted from the maintenance bill.
So basically im screwed.. thank god for the net tho hehe.

Huerta vs. Guida = Huerta by decision. i think Huerta is ready to step up to the next level and start fighting tougher guys then he has been.
Danzig vs. Speer = Speer by decision. i really want to pick Mac in this one because he is the better fighter, but i got this feeling Tommy is going to drag this fight to the ground and control it there for the long boring man hump win
Rollins vs. Koppenhaver = Rollins by KO. im not sure why im picking it like this or if i even care all that much lol.
Sotiropoulous vs. Miles = Sotiropoulous by decision. like Doc said hes just the better fighter here.
