Chute Boxe Brazil has long been considered one of the premier Mixed Martial Arts teams in the world. Known for their superior Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and vicious standing knees, Chute Boxe fighters have always enjoyed great success in MMA.
Recent months have not been as kind to Chute Boxe however. Earlier this year, Wanderlei Silva, perhaps Chute Boxe’s most well-known and well-respected fighter, announced he was leaving the Chute Boxe team and moving to the United States to start his own fight camp in Florida. Shortly after, Silva decided to migrate to Las Vegas and setup his home training base there. Muay Thai standout and K-1 Hero’s fighter Andre “Dida” Amade left Chute Boxe earlier this year as well and migrated to the great white north and accepted a Muay Thai instructors position in Canada.
Yesterday, the latest shoe to drop in the Chute Boxe exodus involved the Rua brothers, Murilo “Ninja” Rua and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Shogun currently is under contract with the UFC while his older brother Ninja is the former EliteXC middleweight champion.
We regret the (departure) of Murilo and Mauricio Rua,” commented Fedrigo indicating that they were leaving to form their own team in the United States. “The doors of Chute Boxe will always be open to them and we wish them good luck.
Are the departures of Chute Boxe’s core fighters just a coincidence or is there something brewing down in Brazil that is making these fighters decide to jump ship?
The Rua brothers are reportedly planning on starting their own fight camp in Massachusetts. My guess is they might initially team up with Gabriel Gonzaga and Paulo Filho at Team Link in Ludlow, MA for a while and then decide the best location to start their own fight team. Either way, being from Massachusetts myself, I can’t complain about having these two fighters in my backyard.

There hasn’t been too much valuable news to post about lately
Looks like Extreme Couture wins camp of the year easily now.
I don’t really think Chute Box should have been in the running anyways. Their fighters have not performed very well this year. I think the departure shows that just an all-out aggression style is no longer the key to victory. More and more fighters are becoming well-rounded and tactical in their games. Having a great BJJ game is nice, but to be a truly elite MMA fighter now requires being great in all aspects of the game. That’s why guys like Anderson Silva and GSP stand in good shape to dominate their respective divisions for a long while.
I don’t think anything specific is wrong with Chute. These guys have seen that the U.S. is the most profitable place to be for them and their families. Also, they are quickly becoming fighting superstars and celebrities, so it’s a no-brainer for most of them. The only issue is that they will lose that old-school edge form the gritty, tough streets of Rio.
LOOKS LIKE THE CHUTEBOX FAMILYS FALLING APART,WHAT U HAVE TO SAY ABOUT ALL THIS KANSAS OR ARE THE TEARS NOT ALLOWING U TO READ THIS ARTICLE LOL

Its not falling apart.. ITS SPREADING.. now not only one Chuteboxe camp limited to Rio .. and one in LA.. but the top guys are starting their own clubs initiating the same thing there. basically becoming instructors and passing it along..
Go ye into all the world and preach the Chuteboxe… yep.. its not all bad… just a little unnerving when you can’t map out the future for them.. we will see how this initial departure effects them with Wand and Chuck.. Rua will be back in 2008 100% and we will see how he is doing too..
If Richard had half a brain he would understand the concept of “divide and conquer” or “disperse and annihilate” ..
My only thoughts are that at this point… we WILL see Shogun and Wanderlei fight, its just a matter of time….
In response to DOCS question about Chuteboxe… BRAZIL … ect.. here is more info relevant to at least the RUA’S departure…:
It was announced via the official Chute Boxe website on Tuesday that Murilo “Ninja†Rua and Mauricio “Shogun†Rua have decided to leave the famed Brazilian fight team.
Wanderlei Silva and Andre Dida recently left the team and now it is apparently time for the Rua brothers to follow suit.
Chute Boxe has developed some of the greatest fighters in mixed martial arts, and this is not the first time that fighters have left the camp. Some years ago, fighters such as Jose Pele Landi-Jons, Assuerio Silva and current Ultimate Fighting Championship titleholder Anderson Silva left Chute Boxe to build a new camp of their own, which some months later didn’t work out and each fighter went his separate way.
Ninja started his career years ago with Master Rafael Cordeiro and was responsible for bringing Shogun to the sport.
“I am leaving Chute Boxe to build my own team,†said Ninja. “I don’t have a name yet, but it will be decided soon.
“The fact is that an MMA fighter’s career is short and we don’t have huge purses and I have to look for the best for me and my family. I had a good proposal from a businessman to open a facility in Massachusetts, and that will be my destiny soon. I have talked to Master Rudimar Fedrigo and it is sad to leave the camp where I was born, but life goes on.”
Shogun told MMAWeekly.com, “I am leaving Chute Boxe because of my brother. I cannot be part of a team that sometime could face my brother. I love Chute Boxe and all my training partners, but I need to be next to my brother on that.â€
About the plans of the Rua brothers, things are not clear yet according to Shogun.
“I definitely don’t want to move to the U.S. I want to stay, live and train in Brazil. I will try to convince (Ninja) to stay in Brazil. We will build a new camp, but I’ll try my best to not go to U.S. I have family here, my wife has family here and its complicated to leave all this behind and move to another place.â€

Your hands aren’t clean either Patrick so why don’t you stick it pal!
I would agree that Chuteboxe isnt the camp of the year, i picked extreme couture also. Were talking about THIS year, and compared to years past, there have been very few Chuteboxers even fighting, with the exception of Anderson who had 3 fights this year. If were talking all time? Chuteboxe is definately up there.
About the guys leaving, i think its a smart move man. Travel and learn from the best all over the world, they did it in japan during the Pride reign. Now theyre doing it in the US under the UFC reign, the most important thing in a sport still as new as mma is EVOLUTION. If you dont grow and adapt, your not gonna last long, and if its one thing these chuteboxe guys do, is last! They been around since the beginning man, fighting bare knuckle and sht, guys like that are gonna survive man, no matter what happens.
Once you think you know it all and you stop learning new things thats when your finished man.. in anything including fighting. A true master is always an avid pupil and the only limits are the ones you set for yourself.

You think Wand and Shogun will fight eventually at this point??? I foresee it.. got a gut feeling we will see it in 2009… perhaps one of Wands last fights if not his last…

ya i could definately see it happening, something that probably would have never happened if not for the UFC. In the octagon they will definately be using different skills than in Pride. Especially with Chute spreading apart like this, they will be facing each other with very different fight strategies and skill sets than they were used to when they trained together at Chute. Im very interested to see what happens if that fight does go down, and were talking more than a year from now who knows who they will end up training with, or what avenues they will take, its very exciting for the fight game if you ask me. Imagine the other young fighters they will be TRAINING also! american fighters with just the right amount of brazillian spice hehe,..
