well i just got finished watching the weigh ins and now im even more pumped up then i was before. Liddell vs. Silva is going to be insane! both fighters made weight Silva at 205lbs. and Chuck at 204lbs. Chuck was second to weigh in and after he got off the scale he took his sweet time to walk over to Wanderlei for the stare down (putting his shirt/pants on, fixing his belt, smiling at the crowd) when he got to Silva (who removed his shirt while Chuck was walking over) they stood nose to nose and both look intense. just before part ways Wand gives Chuck a little head fake and as people start to get between them Chuck flips off Wand and at that time Wand goes in attack mode, of course by this time there is like 10 people between them so no big thing but man tomorrow night is gonna be wild. i dont know if i will be able to sleep tonight, this is like my Christmas!

hehe ya RJ, I never seen Chuck act like that, you notice he got a few boos from the crowd too. Wand did the headfake and it looked like Chuck flinched, thats why he flipped him off but Wand wasnt happy about it either hehe. Not only is he a great fighter, but he knows how to generate more hype around a fight man, and how to get in a guys head and push his buttons.

Tomorrow baby! its GO TIME!! lol

in about 12 hours from right now we should be seeing two of the best fighters in MMA history standing across the cage from each other. cold, cool stares from one corner and evil, killer stares from the other. Chuck is like a sniper, calm, cool, waiting for the right moment to take his kill shot and Wand is a wild beast, deadly, aggressive, and right in your face trying to rip you to shreds. Chuck looked to be in good shape for this fight and Wandi looks just as ready. this is the fight ive been waiting for a fight like this for years, there is no clear winner here, this is not Royce Gracie vs. Art Jimmerson, its not Fedor vs. Zulu, this should be one hell of a fight. and to top the whole thing off we get to see GSP vs. Hughes 3, wow man this is some overload im not even sure if i care that there is going to be any other fights on tonight. i would have been willing to buy this p.p.v. just for Silva vs. Liddell or Hughes vs. St.Pierre but both, DAMN! sorry for the rant guys but ive been trying to avoid getting worked up about this card because the Liddell/Silva thing has been a let down in the past and i didnt want to get too excited for nothing but tonights the night there is no turning back… 9 more hours till show time!!!

Gosh man dont worry I think we are all on the same page here.. there is like so much electricity right now…. I mean this is the superbowl for every mma fan.. Dana and Co made good on their promises after Pride went down… I have got to give them props, the UFC made this happen, a big THANK YOU to the UFC for my belated Christmas gift!

Gotta say that Chuck looks intense for this fight… so does Wand…. its gonna be a war start to finish… I don’t think either fighter will retire off this, I know Wand wont, but I don’t think Chuck will either win or lose…

Well…. dunno … you are way ahead of me RJ.. lol I am just counting down to tonight… if Chuck wins, (anything can happen in a fight) then I would say yeah, if he loses, I dunno, I mean at 37 almost 38 will he want to fight over the next 2 years against guys like Shogun, Wand, Rampage, and Forrest, he can’t JUST fight Wandy.. dunno I guess that would be okay, but I really don’t look forward to Rampage knocking chuck out for a 3rd time so I really hope that Wand wins, we need some fresh fights and fighters…

All I can say, (and nobody with half a brain can disagree) is that the Wand / Chuck fight has overshadowed the main event completely, Chuck and Wanderlei have taken over this fight card completely and really the GSP vs Hughes fight is AWESOME can’t take anything away from it, but OMG 99% of everyone out there on the blogosphere is stuck on the debut of Wand against his equal and rival Chuck…

CHUCK IS BACK!??!! The first round is a draw, the second round Wandy KNOCKED CHUCK DOWN AND STOOD THERE.. (somethings wrong with that) and the third round Chuck rotary jogged the cage out of gas watching the clock and dropping punches here and there… it was a great fight, WAND HAS THE BEST CHIN IN THE 205 AND I SEE A REMATCH COMING IN THE FUTURE…

I have more admiration for Wanderlei after he took EVERYTHING that Chuck had and never stopped fighting… I think the Axe is back.. this went to a DECISION boys… Chuck won a DECISION.. so all I can say is that WANDS CHIN is there.. he just needs to get EXPLOSIVE and I do think the cage impeded him… otherwise how can you explain him not going after Chuck either time Chuck went down??? So in the end…. congrats to the ICEMAN… and I stand by my man Wanderlei who fought a better fight than I have seen anyone fight all year..

i was disappointed that Wand didnt get the win tonight, and i will fully admit Chuck did do a hell of a job and earned the judges vote. one thing that bothered me was two judges called it 30-27, now come on for real even Chucks mother would say Wand took round two. i know this is a moot point because Chuck won the fight ether way and im not even arguing that but a little respect from the judges for Wand would be cool. oh and one more thing on this subject… Liddell with the takedown? huh? did i really see that? i did smoke a few tonight so i dont know.

Same feeling on that.. and what was with Wand not going after a “grounded” Chuck, I mean he dominated Chuck in round 2 and knocked Chuck down, but didn’t go after him like I figured he would and FINISH the fight.. he had the opportunity… oh well.. yeah the fight should have been more like 28-29 across the board.. both fighters will go on and both will win in the future as long as Chucks not fighting Rampage..

Who is next for Chuck? Anybody?
Who is next for Wand? Anybody?

CHUCK AND WANDY

Wandy didnt look very good in this fight.. His conditioning was definately good, but he didnt put the heat on chuck. After the 1st round, i was pretty disappointed.. It seemed like Wand was trying to beat Chuck at his own game, just pure boxing match.. why man.. sigh.. Where was the clinch? where were the knees? where were the relentless leg kicks?? Also like Kansas mentioned, he didnt go after him when Chuck was down, more than once he just waited for Chuck to stand up. He was fighting a much more defensive fight, maybe changing his camp really DID have an effect on his “killer instinct”.

how was the fight?? oh man!! when Chuck got Wandy up against the cage and was throwing those combos like he did to Tito!! i jumped up and started yelling WANDERLEI!!!!! then Wandy started hooking Chuck like RAAAARRRR GET OFF ME!!! then my buddy who was going for Chuck jumps up and yells FIGHT BACK YOU BUM! FIGHT BACK!!! LOL. gottttdaaaaaaam! it was like a Rocky movie man! maybe not a sprint for every second of every round, but i found it more exciting than Huerta - Guida fight guys!

A few things i noticed.. Wandy DID start rushing in during the 2nd round, and everytime he closed in Chuck fed him the jab. The immediate takedown at the start of the round for Chuck that was very smart, i like that. Chucks octagon experience definately played a part in the fight too. I gotta hand it to Chuck man, he went out there and delivered, he clearly won 2 of the 3 rounds in my opinion..

As for Wandy, man.. if it was any other fighter, like Tito, he would have got knocked out in that fight. Not Wandyhes a WARRIOR man, hes not about to lay down for Chuck or anyone in a fight.

Id say this was Fight of the Year for me.. no question..

IVE BEEN SAYING IT FOR A LONG TIME LIDDEL WILL COME OUT ON TOP BABY.But for reals the best fight of the fight i was on my seat the whole time, chuck still hits hard everytime he caught silva with a punch silva took a couple steps back, the only thing that i didnt like in that fight is when wandy knocked down chuck but let him stand if he would of rushed him maybe things would of been different.
WHATS NEXT FOR CHUCK-who knows i really cant see a match for him wright now with anybody
WHATS NEXT FOR WANDY-did anyone else see the look on ramapages face when liddel won,he was disappointed whats next for wandy a small fight then a fight with rampage win or loose against griffin

Comment by zak about 9 months, 2 weeks ago

I think that if both of these guys fought as good as they did tonight against any other light heavyweight in the world they would win, including jackson for liddell. I think that when they were trading punches Wanderlei was diffenitely getting the better of it and Chuck actually had to make some adjusments like TAKE HIM DOWN??? and push him against the cage. Round 2 belonged to Wandi but I understand giving it to liddell cuz of that wicked elbow. This was an amazing fight. Wanderlei has the best chin in the world.

**Was it planned when he backed up into the cage as if pretending to be hurt but then exploded? Pretty smart…

i dont know if he planed that, i think he got hit with a good one and Chuck rushed in Wandi started throwing like “no way son, im not going out like that” ive watched the fight like 1000 times since last night and it almost looks to me that Wandi got rocked right off the hop and spent the rest of the first round on auto-pilot.

I plead the fifth lol. …I think it should have been a split not unanimous …second round all wand until like the last 2 minutes…so yea chuck 1 and 3 wand 2..o well its finally done and over ..I do agree with it being fight of the year …at times I thought wand was going down…and *** I thought at times chucks fat *** was goin down….fight of the ***** year by far…

ps kansas I know how it feels dude….that how I felt when the pitbull got kod by sylvia…I still think wand will eventually find his home there and bounce back…hell train harder…hell *** some ring girls..im sure hell be champ someday…and im ***** sure chuck will *** up his next fight….he’s a dino…..anyone notice how ***** jacked wand was…and yea wand needs to pull a diaz and get some plastic surgery …he looks like he’s ***** 45….

Comment by Cez about 9 months, 2 weeks ago

Can I make comments? (thank you) - I had a feeling that Chuck was gonna win this fight just b/c I was sure that he was really hungry after his two previous losses. No doubt that Wandy is a more complete fighter. The way I saw it was Wandy being too pressured to win this fight, he wasn’t himself, just like when Shogun fought agains Griffin. Who expected Shogun to loose? Wandy had many opportunities to finish the fight. He even had a Muay Thai clinch for a split second and he just let it go. He never rushed after Chuck when he had him in trouble. So, I don’t know if all these ex-Pride fighters are warned by the UFC not to be too wild or what, but it’s just too crazy how they are all loosing to these UFC fighters who under my eyes, are not in the same level. Except for Rampage, I think everyone from Pride hasn’t done that well. It’s a shame :( Anyway, I don’t know if you guys also noticed that Chuck used so of Dan Henderson’s moves to win this fight. Shooting for Silva’s legs and that back fist punch?? WTF?? I never expected that from the Iceman. As much as I dislike Chuck (b/c of his over popularity) I give him credit for being the smarter man in this fight. I say put Chuck against Shogun next and Wandy against Thiago Silva or Jardine. Oh yeah, and someone needs to kill Griffin, how the F* did he get a shot for the championship. Rampage is gonna destroy him. Happy New Years to all!!

if im not mistaken i think Chuck tried the backfist on Jardine near the end of there fight to (someone correct me if im wrong) but the takedown threw me off, i NEVER expected that at all. i must admit as far as Chuck getting the win goes the takedown was about the smartest thing he could do, round two could have gone ether way and an early takedown in a round that could turn into a slugfest is the best way to win the round.

Man I did bet the farm on wand… 2k and I am down bad but I don’t give a crap. it was the best fight i have EVER seen and I am not even mad about Wand losing because he didn’t get knocked out and he fired right back in, knocked chuck down and really did pretty good, I was disappointed at his lack of explosion at times, when he did explode he caught chuck bad so I don’t know why he held out… whatever, I am still a Wand fan, perhaps he should take what he learned defensively and GO BACK TO BRAZIL and train with his old camp CHUTEBOXE with of course the better defense and timing skills..
