Stephan Bonnar announced via his personal website that his next fight will be against Matt Hamill on an upcoming UFC Fight Night card.
According to Bonnar, the fight is scheduled to take place on April 2 in Denver, Colorado.
Bonnar has fought twice since returning from his suspension for steroids in 2006 and most recently defeated Eric Schafer by strikes at UFC 77 last October. Hamill last fought at UFC 75 in England where he lost a decision to Michael Bisping; or should I say where he won the fight but the judges handed Bisping the victory instead.
Seems like an interesting matchup that will most likely take place on the ground. Bonnar has an excellent jiu-jistu game, especially for a fighter of his size, while Hamill has an excellent wresting game. Has Hamill learned enough submission defense and will he be able to physically control Bonnar? We shall see.

With all the rumored fights out there, this UFN card on April 2 looks like it will be a great one
What other fights are rumored to be on this card?
The other rumored fights are:
Kenny Florian vs Joe Lauzon and Spencer Fisher vs Marcus Aurelio
Thanks Doc,
I think Kenny will be able to handle Joe. Lauzon is tough but Kenny seems tough to beat lately and I don’t think Joe has the experience to beat him. Spencer and Marcus should be good. I think Spencer will win if the fight stays standing but if it goes to the ground for a substantial amount of time Aurelio will probably catch him in a submission. Looking forward to this one. Finally the UFC makes it’s way back to it’s original birth place!
Insane within two days they announce shows at my two favorite locations. I’ve been waiting fot the UFC to return here to Denver for a long time. I really hope this is true because I’ll throw down good cash for seats at this event. Without having to spend money on airfare and hotel I will have plenty to get good seats. This is going to be a good year for MMA in the south west. I’ll get pics here also if they do really come here.
I dont know what to expect really. My hearts with Bonnar. He has unbelievable heart and very well rounded and hasnt been finished since before he was on the ultimate fighter. Thats a long time. Hamill will not do as well standing as he did with Bisping but the x factor is hamill’s absoulout world class wrestling. Bonnar got completly controlled for 3 rounds against rashad evans and hamill is a better wrestler than him and probably stronger. This fight will be based on the improvement of matt hamill. He probably has sharpened his stand up some more and hes got heavy hands. By now he probably isnt gonna get submitted on top. Bonnar best bet is too knock him out but the fear of the takedown should make him a bit weary to throw. And when he does hell prolly go to the mat. Hamill by u.d but ill be pullin for bonnar.
bonnar all the way
I like Bonnar too, but I just don’t see him KO’ing anyone, especially a tank like Hamill. Bonnar’s only chance is if they somehow end up on the ground and he can work his submission game, which will also be very tough to do.
hammil for having such a great ground game prefers to stand
Thgey just added Houston Alexander vs James Irvin to this card also. Looks like Houston will be back on his winning ways. I don’t think Irvin has the ground skills to defeat Houston as easily as lasy time. This has to be the best Fight night card ever put together. I’m glad I threw down good cash for this one. I’m close enough to get blood splatter on me. This event id going to be awsome.
Man,
The lineup for this fight card is almost better than most of the PPV cards of 2007.
Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon
Karo Parisyan vs. Thiago Alves
Matt Hamill vs. Stephan Bonnar
Spencer Fisher vs. Marcus Aurelio
Din Thomas vs. Josh Neer
Clay Guida vs. Samy Schiavo
Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin
I’m already pumped for this and it’s still two months away. With a card like this they could have done Pepsi center. Hopefully I can get some good pictures. I’m just surprised they haven’t put any local talent in the card. Usually when they go to a new city they try and put some home towm guys in. I guess Alvin Robinson just fought but he was submitted pretty quickly so he didn’t sustain any injury. Nate Marquart already has a fight scheduled. Duane Ludwig has a fight coming up for another promotion so they may not have many options.
***** yea… they must have someone in place of joe silva
