The International Fight League continues its restructuring process in 2008, as they have named Bas Rutten their new Vice President of Fighter Operations today. In the new position, Rutten will report directly to IFL CEO Jay Larkin and act as a liaison between the IFL and fighters and other organizations.

Bas Rutten has been with the IFL since its inception holding positions ranging from television commentator to coach. Rutten has a storied mixed martial arts career as he was a three time King of Pancrase champion as well as UFC heavyweight champion at one point.

I believe the IFL needs to now get better fighters and they need to totally move away rom the team concept of fighting. I have never cared if the Wolverines or Silver Backs were going to win the championship….LOL. I know they have been making strides in different directions. Hopefully Bas can get some better fighters to comeover to the IFL. Because right now it is pretty much like King of The Cage in a Ring.

Good for Bas. I think he can have a good impact on the IFL. The fighters respect him and I think he can help them turn things around. Getting away from the team concept was a great first start but there are many more improvments to be made. The camp theme could be interesting but I think they just need to get the best fighters available and put on the best fights. That’s what the fans want to see.

Doc, you should make a post about Werdum getting a title shot, there should be alot of talk about that one!

@Dr.J

Are you not against Werdum getting a title shot?? only reason i can think you not being outraged at that like most people.

Werdum beat Gonzaga and gets a shot at the winner of Sylvia - Nogueira.

Arlovski beats Werdum and gets a shot at Jake O’Brian LOL wtf??

well, it hasn’t been said by anyone with any authority that Werdum will get the next title shot.

The UFC clearly has been sitting on Arlovski and doesn’t want to push him any more. Imagine that Sylvia beats Nog - there is no way the UFC will put up a Syliva-Arlovski match for the fourth time.

With Randy gone and Cro Cop fighting like crap, there really aren’t many options. I agree that Werdum doesn’t deserve a shot before Arlovski simply because Arlovski just beat him, but who else in the division should get the next title shot? Kongo? Mir? Vera? Gonzaga? Lesnar, lol?

There really isn’t much out there.

Why does there have to be such a quick title shot already anyways? lol.

Why dont they match Arlvoski with crocop, instead of O’brian, and matchup Werdum with Kongo.

Then the winners fight each other for the title shot, possibly Werdum and Arlovski again. If Andre and Tim both win in my scenario, it would be part 4.

We cant just outlaw those guys from ever fighting again, if it happens it happens..

what you think about those matchups?

I don’t think there is any rush at all in the next title shot, and that is one of the reasons why I’m not convinced there is any truth to the rumors of Werdum getting the next title shot.

There have been a lot of BS reports from all these new MMA blog sites all the time recently and 85% of them turn out to be completely false even though the bloggers say they are from “trusted sources near the fighters.”

I don’t waste my time with that crap and that’s why I don’t post a lot of those dumb rumors that pop up each day. Unless I’m able to confirm it myself either directly or through other sources that I trust, I wouldn’t believe a lot of the rumors.

Think about it, Werdum just came to the UFC, he lost to Arlovski, then beat Gonzaga, now hes getting a title shot. Thats one win, coming off a loss, how do you get a title shot with a 1-1 record in the UFC? lol, its just ridiculous man.

If you think about it.. Jake Obrien has a better claim to a title shot than Werdum does! LOL, hes 3-0 in the UFC, but i dont see anyone talking about giving him a shot, hes lucky to get Arlovski! lol

Ok, so you think its just the same rumor perpetuating itself through all the common blogs and thats why everyone is talking about it? maybe your right, but theyre pulling out all the stops on this rumor man. Not just articles, but also in their little radio shows and stuff.

To be honest i hope it really IS just a rumor, but i dunno, everone is talking about it..

I’m not saying that its not a possibility, just that I haven’t been able to confirm it personally or through any of my trusted sources.

I’d say if Nog wins, there is no way they’d match him with Werdum. If Sylvia wins, its more likely that Werdum or Kongo would get the next title fight.
