ProElite announced late Saturday night that they had signed Phil Baroni to a multi-year contract with EliteXC.
Baroni is just finishing up a six month suspension from the California State Athletic Commission due to a positive drug test after his fight with Frank Shamrock last June in Strikeforce.
Baroni’s first fight under the EliteXC banner will come this March as Baroni fights for the new vacant ICON Sport middleweight title. Robbie Lawler, ICON’s former middleweight champion, was stripped of the title Saturday night and the promotion is wasting no time in putting the belt back up for grabs. Baroni will fight Kala Kolohe Hose for the vacant title on March 15 in Hawaii.
