IFL Feb. 29 Fighter Payouts

March 4th, 2008 | by Dr J

money.jpgHere are the official fighter payout numbers from the IFL Season Opener held in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 29.

  • Ryan Schultz - $26,000
  • Roy Nelson - $24,000
  • Alexandre Ferreira - $16,000
  • Jake Ellengerger - $15,000
  • Matt Horwich - $12,000
  • Ryan McGivern - $10,000
  • John Gunderson - $9,500
  • Fabiano Scherner - $7,500
  • Pat Healy - $7,500
  • Rafael Dias - $7,000
  • Ian Loveland - $7,000
  • Josh Haynes - $6,000
  • Dennis Davis - $5,000
  • Santino DeFranco - $5,000
  • Lew Polley - $4,000
  • Leopoldo Serao - $4,000

The total disclosed fighter payroll was $165,500.

An interesting side-note is that the total live gate amount was only $102,120. A total of 1,606 tickets were paid attendence while 2,674 comp tickets were given out. It’s nice to see the IFL taking care of their fighters, even when it puts them in the red; but, its definitely not a good long term business strategy.

Hopefully their TV deals help offset their live event loses. With only 1,606 tickets sold it seems like the IFL does’nt have much of a fan following. Even the WEC event I went to had about 4,500 people in attendance but I’m not sure how many of thoses were comp tickets. UFC fight night here in Denver sold out in a little over a month with 6,500 seats. With it selling out so quickly I don’t think many are comp tickets. I hope with the sucess of this event they will return. Now that the IFL is being shown on HDnet I don’t get to see many of their event so I don’t know how they are doing now that they abandon the team concept.

The shows actually have been pretty good now that they are done with the teams.

Its really too bad but I think 2008 will be the last year the IFL is around. With the EliteXC signing with CBS and gaining a lot of momentum and the UFC still running strong they just cant compete.

Being a public company, their investors will only let then bleed money for so long before canning the company. I wouldn’t be surprised to ProElite try to purchase them before the end of the year.
