Andre Arlovski vs Ben Rothwell at Affliction: Banned
Affliction just announced today that Andre Arlovski and Ben Rothwell will fight each other at Affliction: Banned on July 19.
The “Banned” fight card will be the first show promoted by Affliction and has one of the best fight cards of the year. Rothwell still is under contract with Adrenaline MMA but is fighting with permission on the Affliction card. Since the inaugural Adrenaline event is just a month earlier, he will not be available for the Adrenaline show.

The original story on Adrenaline MMA’s website has been taken down and as a result I removed the link from my post as well. Also, I have since updated the post to [Rumor] status and am trying to reconfirm the bout through some other sources.

I agree BV this fight card as currently listed is off the chain bar none a step in the BEST direction… better than any lineup that the UFC has right now, but my question is are the blowing their “Adrenaline” in one shot because after this their best guys will have to wait a MINIMUM of 3 months to fight again and in the meantime who will fill the vacancies??
it’ll be no big deal if they only do a card every few months, im just wondering how there going to pay all these big player all fighting in the same show.
That link goes to the Adrenaline site, not Affliction. And it doesn’t say anything about Arlovski competing. It looks like you just took Arlovski’s name and swapped it in for Sylvia.

Wow, first time outside of Pride I’ve seen a card that should give the UFC serious pause. Depending on how this card goes down, it could easily be candidate for card of the year. Arlovski will beat Ben Rothwell fairly easily in my opinion. The IFL didn’t have a good HW to really test him. Ricco even way out of his prime and way overweight gave Ben a good fight. I’m taking Fedor by armbar over Tim, hopefully Tim makes a fight out of it. I’d like to see Fedor punished and see how he reacts. Aleksander Vs Buentello fight should be good. Both have heavy hands and will stand and trade. I like Paul but I think Aleksander will beat him. Sounds like a good card hopefully it doesn’t fall apart at the last second.

This is an excellent first card, but 1 card doesn’t make a promotion stick around. We’ve seen plenty of new promotions pop up and put on a good first show and never have a second or third event.
Affliction is spending a TON of money on this card, and they for sure won’t be able to keep up that spending pace for long.

about the Affliction card..
I REALLY hope Tim beats Fedor, dam.. i would LOVE it man. The question is, will Tim get any respect after that fight??? probably not, most people will just say Fedor is overrated blah blah.. If Fedor wins, people will say Tim sucks and Fedor is overrated.. pisses me off man.. That being said, both these guys have something to prove and it will answer alot of questions.
Im with Arlovski for sure, even though people think he sucks because he lost to Tim twice (and they believe Tim sucks). If you check the numbers, before his losses to Tim, he was undefeated for 6 years, and he hasnt lost a fight since his meetings with Tim. Can you really say his career is over because of that?
Rothwell has alot of experience, but not fighting guys at the top of the food chain. Even so, im sure Ben is pumped for this fight and hes training harder than ever before, so i see him as a serious threat to Arlovski. Its gonna be a crazy fight man..
Other than that, Barnett, Aleks, Lindland and babalu should come out on top.
so what you guys think about Mir and Nog for the next TUF coaches? I could see Mir being a good coach, and Nog too, though his english isnt great..

I think a more realistic title shot should be the winner of Vera and Werdum considering the UFC already lost Randy, Tim and Arlovski.. their 3 best UFC HW fighters. Crocop is gone and i dont see Herring or Kongo slated to fight any time soon..
The UFC HW division has basically gone down the toilet this year in my opinion and nobody still in the UFC can test Nog.
I dont think Mir has done anything to earn a shot and I think he will get beaten pretty easily. There just isn’t much out there in the UFC heavyweight division. I think it was either Mir, Kongo or Vera and Mir won the draw.
i agree with DRJ what did mir do to be a coach on tuf oh yeah beat brock lesnar a guy with no mma expierence and up until he got that kneebar was whooping his arse.But then again who else are they going to pick?
i kinda like the idea of Mir and Nog, ive been saying for a long time that we need to see more people fighting for the title. does Mir deserve a shot at Nog? probably not, but that doesn’t mean he can’t win the fight. did Matt Serra deserve a shot at GSP? probably not, but he got a shot and made the best of it and it made for an interesting time in the welter weight division for a bit.
you make a good point RJ, but all i can think about is, Nog fought in early Feb this year, hes probably fighting mir around Xmas/newyears, then how long will it be before he fight again after that??? it might be 6 months to a year lol.. thats a long time man.
So basically were not seeing Nog fight a top contender for another 1.5-2 years lol.. maybe by that time they will actually sign back some of the HW talent.

I am neutral to him getting a title shot… I don’t think their are many other HW in the UFC that deserve it more than Frank right now not to mention Nog like BV said doesn’t fight often so its better to have him fight Frank than not at all..
lets say Nog and Mir fight next month and Nog wins then what? lets say Nog vs. Werdum in Sept/Oct and Kongo in Jan. or you can insert any names in you choose. now if they did it that way i would be cool with it, but im not the average fan buying a pay per view based on the strength of one or two fights. its a lot easier to sell Nog vs. Mir to the masses if they just got finished watching them on TV for eight weeks. the UFC is as successful as they are because they know how to sell the brand, people will wanna see Nog vs. Mir it will just take some convincing (about 8 weeks worth) and the UFC knows by doing it this way they can sell another show to SPIKE TV and get better pay per view buys all in one shot and as an added bonus they can kinda put the heavyweight division on hold for a bit. its a win, win, win for them and i think in the long run it’ll give them enough time to sort out there heavyweight problem a little bit.
makes alot of sense when you put it that way RJ. Ofcourse the marketing thing about TUF, but mostly the part about putting the HW div on hold.
yeah you know if i was the guy in charge i would spend the next year chasing good heavy weights around with my wallet in hand. looking at the Affliction card its obvious that there IS good heavies around, but its going to cost you to have them on your roster. or with the new trend of smaller heavy weights they could just drop the light heavy division and call everyone 185lbs. and over heavy weight. its not out of the question for someone like Liddell or Forrest to fight a guy Like Nog or Mir if they dont have to cut weight any more and the smaller LHWs will have to drop to 185lbs. that would help both middle weight and heavy weight divisions by adding some better fighters to the mix. maybe to keep the giant guys from coming in and killing the smaller guys make a superheavy weight division for 250lbs to 300lbs. or something like that
I dunno about that RJ, 185 to 250 is a huge range.. I dont think that would work out very well, because alot of good 205 fighters might not be able to make 185, or they might not perform well if they did manage to make the cut, because everyones body is different.
I think a better idea would be for the UFC to sign figbhters to SHORTER contracts, even 1 fights deals.. They always want to lock fighters down and try and own them, so they cant fight anywhere else. I think thats the main problem with the UFC, as we have seen by the amount of good fighters they released this year alone. Its like theyre downsizing the company to keep the payroll down and the profit margin up.
We suffer as fans, they end up releasing all the best fighters because they cost too much and keeping all the TUF guys because they basicaly MADE those guys,they OWN them, and theyre bargain basement fighters as compared to guys like Fedor, crocop etc..
yeah the weight class thing is just me throwing ideas around, but you get what i mean. and your absolutely right about the contract thing and if fighters keep leaving to pursue more flexible contracts at some point the UFC will have no other option then to play ball and at that point the fighters will finally be in control over there own careers. i hope this happens sooner then later because i predict shortly after the UFC goes non-exclusive they will also start to co-promote because if there contenders or champs are fighting somewhere else they might as well get a cut of the gate and pay per view.

someones is making a movie about Hamill? well one good thing could be it would be good to have a feel good flick about MMA lol. i know this is gonna sound weird but…. i think that Kyle Maynard has an advantage in submission grappling. hear me out for a second, no joints means no joint locks and its less to grab on to that will help you get a good position, secondly he seems like he has a very good base on top so i think hes probably got a good center of gravity and with almost no limbs it means almost no weight on his limbs and more weight on his torso, hes like a ball of muscle with 4 feet holding you down. well im going to bed now and when i get up im calling a doctor because i need help, i cant believe im trying to convince people a limbless man has an unfair advantage in submission grappling lol.

That was a terrible fight. They were throwing bombs like they were fighting in a bar. Schultz has zero ground game how did he run an MMA record of 7-1? He must of fought a couple patty cakes. What he said to Forrest was funny though.
