Once again, the UFC 85 fight card will see another change as James Irvin had to withdraw from his fight with Rashad Evans due to injury.
UFC.com is reporting that Irvin suffered a broken foot in training and will be unable to compete. Brazilian Luiz Cain will step in and replace Irvin in the fight against Evans.
The past few months have been a long, strange time for Evans. Originally slated to fight Thiago Silva at this weekends UFC 84 event, Evans was bumped to UFC 85 and scheduled to fight Chuck Liddell after his opponent, Mauricio Rua had to withdraw due to injury as well. Liddell subsequently tore a hamstring and had to be removed from the fight with Evans and that is when James Irvin stepped in to fight Rashad. Now, Rashad is left with his fourth new opponent, Luiz Cane.
Cane has fought once in the UFC at UFC 79 where he lost by disqualification in the first round after kneeing James Irvin while he was down. Cane was already scheduled to appear on the undercard of UFC 85 against Jason Lambert and it is unknown who, if anyone, will step in to fight Lambert.
UFC 85: Bedlam is scheduled for June 7 in London, England and will be available via Pay-Per-View.
** UPDATE **
UFC.com is now reporting that Rashad Evans will not fight at all at UFC 85. Luiz Cain will fight his original opponent Jason Lambert
After more twists and turns than a Hollywood thriller, June 7th’s UFC 85: Bedlam show has finally been set with 11 fights. Included is a move of the intriguing middleweight clash between Nate Marquardt and Thales Leites to the pay-per-view portion of the card, and a scrapping of the Rashad Evans vs James Irvin bout due to a broken foot suffered by Irvin.
