Dave Meltzer of Yahoo.com is reporting that Dana White confirmed the UFC will run a live event on SpikeTV on July 19. The fight card will be headlined by current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s debut in the light heavyweight division when he takes on James Irvin.
Silva will not be leaving the middleweight division permanently or vacating his current title. The expectation is that if Silva performs well at light heavyweight that a potential fight against Chuck Liddell will be in the works.
Also appearing on the July 19 fight card will be a lightweight matchup between Hermes Franca and Frankie Edgar.
This quickly assembled fight card is clearly an attack aimed directly at upstart promotion Affliction who will hold their much anticipated debut event the same night on Pay-Per-View.
