Brandon Vera will make a quick return from his controversial loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 85 when he takes on UFC newcomer Reese Andy at UFC Fight Night 14 on July 19.
Reese Andy most recently fought in the International Fight League with the Seattle-based Tigersharks team where he had a record of 5-1. Andy’s most recent fight was over a year ago though and the time off may play a factor.
UFC Fight Night 14 will be headlined by a fight between Anderson Silva and James Irvin and also feature a fight between Hermes Franca and Frankie Edgar.

I’m a little torn now as to which event to watch. I think I’ll DVR the UFC and buy the PPV also. Anderson at light heavy should be interesting. Irvin should be a little bigger than him being a natural LHW but I still think Silva will win by TKO in the first or second. They should have moved the Kenny vs Huerta fight to this card that would have created more attention. Never know they might I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
That’s exactly what the UFC is hoping most of its fans do. Just watch the free UFC show instead of paying for the Affliction show.
I think I’ll do the same - DVR the UFC show and get the PPV as well.
theres been alot of talk about this move by the UFC..
heres the way i see it..
Affliction has yet to even put on a single show and they have already had a positive effect on MMA. They caused the UFC to put on another show, great! then ofcourse the stellar affliction card, great!
i see this as a win/win situation for us the fans, looks like competition IS good heh.
I agree BV.. Trump/Couture are attempting to put on a great promotion.. just the name of Donald Trump in the business world (as your competitor and financier) will send ripples through your business.. ZUFFA is scrambling obviously.. and unlike PRIDE FC which rarely got broadcasted to the MAINSTREAM Casual MMA fan.. Afflication will be available to the American audience.. good stuff all the way.. we said the same about Mark Cuban, but hey… I don’t think “the Donald” will be undersold or will lose heart on this, he has stock built in REAL fighters like Fedor, not questionable talent like Kimbo… so yeah I think its good and will last.. I do wonder whats the cost?
Great point BV,
There is no way in hell I could be stopped from buying the Affliction card. Anyone whos a real MMA fan should jump right on board…that’s what the company hopes and expects us to do if we ever want to see better fight cards in the future by the UFC. I think we should all support them 100%.
nice, it sounds like we are all on the same page here. this Affliction card is good for us in a bunch of ways, good matches put together by Affliction means other orgs. will have to up there game. the worst thing that can happen is everyone forgetting the Affliction show and watching the UFC show, if Zuffa can stop Fedor vs. Sylvia with Anderson vs. Irvin we will never see a top notch UFC card ever again. even if you dont buy the Affliction pay per view i would say its still a good idea to wait for the replay on the UFC card, this is one of those times im gonna say dont support the UFC low numbers are going to force the Zuffa brass to think real hard about what there selling to there fans. f*ck its gonna be hard as hell to not watch my boy Anderson when its live, i almost decided to just watch the Anderson vs. Irvin fight for free and then download the Affliction card later, but i will do my part for the greater good of the sport and catch the replay of UFC after i watch Affliction. by the way for my Canadian brothers the Fightnetwork will be showing the entire Affliction undercard before the p.p.v. goes live.
did anyone else read about Lorenzo Fertitta taking on a bigger role in the UFC? if not here you go check it out:

Doc, you realize Vera is moving down to LHW for this fight with Reese? its interesting because Anderson is moving UP and Vera is moving DOWN, it would be very interesting to see these 2 guys meet at 205.
yeah, i think Vera will do well at LHW, but the division is pretty stacked right now too
the first rumor i heard was Wanderlei vs. Vera and then it changed to Anderson vs. Vera, we all know thats not the case but both of those fights would have been interesting but im not really sure i want to see ether Silva fight Vera at this moment. there is so many more, better match ups for Wand and Anderson without having to fight a heavy weight, although if Anderson could knock out Vera in the first or second it would make big Tim look bad, and im sure Dana would love that idea. i would like to see Anderson vs. Wanderlei bare knuckle Vale Tudo style now that would be something to see.
lol I think Wanderlei would kill him bare knuckle, are we allowing headbutts? hehe Wand got a nice headbutt in his arsenal man.
oh yeah were talkin headbutts, groin strikes, the old ring with the little net at the bottom, the whole nine. and you absolutely right about Wands headbutts, not only does he have a nasty headbutt but he will add it into a combo, left hook, right elbow, headbutt, left hook, clinch and knee, now thats some real sh*t right there.
i miss the old Vale Tudo, like Meca, BVF, and IVC its very understandable in this day and age that it doesnt fly anymore because it was super brutal, but that the same reason it was awesome. did you ever see the tournament from IVC where Wanderlei had the fight call due to cut (like 12 minutes into his third fight that night) and he freaked out for a second because he didnt want to stop but his eye was hanging out of his f*ckin head, thats why that man demands respect because hes a warrior to the core.
Same here RJ, the old school NHB fights were classic and nothing can ever compare to that. I think Wandy was pissed because that was his first and only loss in IVC, which sucks, i loved his beatdown of Van Arsdale though hehe
Wonder why all the “Vale Tudo” stopped.. well for audiences here it has.. its almost become a national sport in Brazil, they have local competitions in gyms ect..
Kansas, i think that NHB fights are great and theres no challenge more authentic to find out whos the better fighter and the better man. Not just for whooping a guys asss but the amount heart it takes to absorb all that punishment yourself! like breaking your hands on a guys face and keep punching.
Ofcourse the problem is that the human body wasnt designed to take that kind of punishment. Thats why modern MMA is VASTLY superior to the old NHB style orgs. and thats why they didnt stand the test of time. Besides the fact that people thought it was barbaric.. thats another issue all together. In alot of ways im glad things have changed, but in some ways i miss it man!
HERES AN IDEA
Imagine they could arrange certain NHB fights like grudge matches, bad blood, etc.. If both fighters want that match and they both agree to the terms. Forget about sanctioning, or even official coverage, pure underground style big tax free purses too. The problem ofcourse is that most good fighters are locked down and something like that would breach their contract.
Theres a couple guy out there who im SURE just dont give a fck about all that though lol. like..
Nick Diaz (while hes between orgs. he would definately throw down)
Krazy horse (no explaination needed there lol)
Gilbert Yvel (hes just a *** and likes to hurt people)
Bob Schreiber (hes just got MAD illegal skills, dudes a killer)
Mike Pyle (he probably get DQ from the NHB for biting lol)
Kimbo (hes a company man now, but i think he would be more dangerous in NHB than he is in MMA now)
sht theres alot of guys who would throw down to prove theyre tough.
Yeah.. if Wand fought Vera I say:
Wand winner via staredown before round 1… lol
