EliteXC announced that Antonio Silva will fight for their open heavyweight title at their July 26 Saturday Night Fights event on CBS.
An official opponent for Silva has not yet been named but Loretta Hunt is reporting that Sergei Kharitonov has verbally agreed to take the fight and the bout is currently pending approval by the California State Athletic Commisison.
If the fight is approved it will be the third EliteXC title fight on the CBS live show joining the middleweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith and the welterweight title fight between Jake Shields and Nick Thompson.

honestly for me this is a dream match up,i love sergeis’ style i hope he shows his skills ending with a great ko
yeah man Sergei is good sh*t, but Silva is huge, strong, and quick and i think he has a good enough ground game to take Sergei down and sub him. Sergei without a doubt has the edge in quality of opponents so the experience may be a factor here. i dont know who i pick in this fight.
Im with Kharitonov too Richard, but Antonio is not the guy to sleep on, this is gonna be one TOUGH fight! I see this one probably going the distance.
I’m going with Bigfoot Silva. I think this guy is a beast on the feet and especially on the ground for a guy his size.
Doc, by what means do you see Silva winning?
I can see him winning in the feet, but most likely by GnP
yeah im leaning more towards Silva also, BIG, quick, dangerous just about everywhere. Kharitonov is definitely going to have his hand full with Silva.
so im just curious, what is everyone picking in the Rampage vs. Forrest, how do you see it going down, how long will it take, and how will the winner win? im going to assume a lot of you are taking Rampage in this one, so how will it end. i think Forrest will do just a bit more then Rampage and get the decision, and i cant really back that up its just a gut feeling. im also thinking that no matter who wins we’ll see all 5 rounds. if Forrest can hang with Rampage for 5 round i will be impressed but if it goes 5 and Forrest wins i think that will prove he should be the champ. i do have high hopes for this fight, a lot of people are overlooking it a bit and it doesnt seem to be very hyped but im thinking after it people are gonna say “wow i never thought the fight was going to be that good!”
RAMPAGE vs FORREST
Yes i like Rampage in this fight, Forrest has shown hes a warrior but is he tough enough to take the belt and the money and the food off Rampages plate? naw man.. i dont think so lol.
Now that Rampage is more serious about fighting. and hes actually training! lol hes gonna be a really tough guy to dethrone. Like if he fought Wanderlei now, who whooped him twice very decisively, it would be a whole different ballgame. I think hes stronger than Forrest, hes a more explosive wrestler, hes a better boxer, he hits harder and hes probably tougher than Forrest, which says alot cuz Forrest is one tough SOB!
Forrest has the advantage in BJJ and thats his best chance to win the fight. Early in the fight Forrest just has to survive, hes not submitting Rampage in the 1st round so he better not even try unless he gets his back. Definately no armbars or triangles unless he wants to end up like Arona, i mean were talking 5 rounds here hes got lots of time.
In the tank, we know Rampage is used to 25 min fights or fighting for 15 min str8 in Pride etc.. nothing new for him. Forrest has never had a 5 round fight but hes looked great all the way up to the last bell in the 3rd so i think he shouldnt have much problem there.
Rampage said its not going to the cards and i believe him man lol, i see him crushing Forrest within 3, after that i dont think Rampage can finish him.
I hope Sergei trains hard and he comes to this fight in shape, if hes got the gas, he can win this fight. Guys hes big, but hes not THAT big, hes not like Giant Silva size lol. I mean theyre both 6′4, its Just that Sergei is a small HW and Silva is probably coming in near 300 lbs on fight night.
Heres how i would break it down..
THE STRIKING
Silvas last fight vs Ricco showed me about where hes at right now. An overweight Ricco almost beat him in the standup, he was definately the more agile fighter and Silva looked very stiff. Eventually though Silva was able to connect on Ricco a few times and that combined with fatigue caused Ricco to take Silva down.
I think Kharitonov is a better striker than both those guys but hes obviously giving up alot of weight in this fight.
THE GRAPPLING
Theyre both good, Silva is not submitting Sergei, if Nog couldnt do it i seriously doubt his student will be able to. Plus hes never been submitted before in a fight, although im sure Silva wont get submitted either.
Possible outcomes
1ST ROUND KO FOR SILVA, this is his best chance in this fight, especially if he gets on top of Sergei early.
DECISION FOR SILVA, as weve seen, if Silva goes past the 1st round hes not the same fighter. If he manages to rack up some points early then work his BJJ to set up some weak ground and pound like he did vs Ricco he could secure another decision victory.
DECISION FOR SERGEI, this is what Sergei should train for and set a gameplan around. He should strike from long range, get Silva chasing him a bit and basically just counter to try and get the heavier fighter tired. Then win the fight in the later rounds..
yeah i never really thought of that but Sergei dragging the fight out and trying to tire out Silva would be a good way to go about it, maybe he would be able to finish Silva late in the second or third. i still see Bigfoot taking this one though.
im saying ko in the second for kharitonov.
Now on the rampage fight i got rampage ko first round, forrest chin in my opionion is suspect against great strikers.
LOOKS LIKE THIS FIGHT AINT GONNA HAPPEN.SILVA’S FIGHTING JUSTIN EILERS
Ya i was disappointed when i read about that Richard, Eilers is just a name for Silva to add to his Win list and Kharitonov would have definately been a tougher test for Silva. I dont know why Jusin even fights, its been proven that he cant hang with the big boys and hes already riddled with Injuries.
Classic wrestler syndrome, both his knees are for sht now, how may times does he want his jaw broken? This is gonna be a 1sk round destruction by KO, highlight reel, broken jaw, the whole nine..
i also smell some shielding by elite xc i wouldnt want my up and coming “next big thing in the heavyweight division”to get possibly koed, cuz lets face it silva looked horrible in his last fight.
It seems to me that Elite trys to find fighters with a name who they think are over the hill or out of shape, and they match them up with guys they favor.
Ofcourse its not just Elite, its everyone, the UFC probably the most. Its just annoying man.. especially in the UFC where they have all these good fighters and they never match them up with each other.
If you look at the old Pride events, almost EVERY SINGLE CARD was stacked! Everytime a half decent fight happens in the UFC it has to be its own event as the main event, with maybe one other good fight and then a full undercard of TUF guys…
yeah your right he didnt look like a killer in his last fight, i was expecting Silva to crush Ricco fast but he had a tough time in that fight. and as far as them protecting him, that wouldnt surprise me at all Gary Shaw is looking more and more like a boxing promoter all the time.

what are all these weird posts that always pop up??
what kind of posts? I changed around some stuff with our advertising company and they might have messed something up.
i think he might be talking about the pingback by… /\ up there….. just my guess.
and on the subject of the changes, i try to come on here yesterday afternoon and it said under construction and when i did get on there was huge blinking add everywhere lol. it seems to be ok now.
ahh, i see.
yeah, the ad company screwed something up royally yesterday and I had to go in and try to fix it. I still think it may be a little wonky though
ah its not bad, the adds are a little bigger then before but thats no big thing. i also noticed the adds are 90% skateboarding adds and thats cool with me, skateboarding was my lives passion before MMA took over lol. and on that note do we have other rippers around this site? i have picked up my board in almost two years and the other day i grabbed my board, went outside and pulled a hardflip on my first try so PLEASE someone clap for me lol, my kids just looked at me like “so, ive seen that before” lol.
nice. man I used to skate all through college till I busted my knee on dropping in on a half pipe. There was this great local skate shop in FL called Seraphim Skate Shop, used to have demos and stuff there all the time.
Man, I havent touched my board in like 6 years. Probably couldn’t even kickflip anymore, much less pull off a hardflip.
props
lol it was a sketchy hardflip for sure and i tried about 300 kickflips with no luck what so ever lol i kinda had a feeling you skated at some point because you knew all about Mike V.
i was never a skater, closest i came was letting my dog pull me on my neighbors skateboard, i had a siberian husky, man he could jump too! from just standing still he could hop over a 6 foot high hedge. Dam i miss my dog now.. hehe
my in laws have a sweet little husky they just got, man i like those dogs.
What you guys think about Vitor vs Terry Martin?
Vitor moving down to 185, nice, though he hasnt fought anyone of note lately he might has gottena bit sloppy. His last fight he won the cage rage LHW title going into the fight with a broken hand and he still won lol. I think he needs to get back to fighting tougher opponents, i dont think Martin is that guy.. Vitor 1st round KO…
yeah i got Vitor in a round 1 KO too, but thats hoping Vitor comes to fight and with him there is always the idea that he might not preform up to his true ability.
