Affliction: Banned Fighter Payouts

July 21st, 2008 | by Dr J

money.jpgHere are the fighter salaries from Saturday night’s Affliction: Banned event.

  • Tim Sylvia - $800,000
  • Andrei Arlovski - $750,000
  • Josh Barnett - $300,000
  • Fedor Emelianenko - $300,000
  • Matt Lindland - $300,000
  • Ben Rothwell - $250,000
  • Vitor Belfort - $140,000
  • Renato Sobral - $90,000
  • Paul Buentello - $80,000
  • Pedro Rizzo - $70,000
  • Antonio Nogueira - $50,000
  • Mike Whitehead - $50,000
  • Terry Martin - $30,000
  • Gary Goodridge - $25,000
  • Mike Pyle - $20,000
  • Fabio Negao - $20,000
  • Edwin Dewees - $15,000
  • Mark Hominick - $10,000
  • Savant Young - $7,000
  • Justin Levens - $6,000
  • JJ Ambrose - $5,000
  • Ray Lizama - $3,000

Wow, crazy payout numbers. According to my calculation, the total disclosed fighter payout was $3,321,000. That easily is more than double anything the UFC has paid out for a single event. Hopefully Affliction didn’t just blow their whole promotion budget on one fight card.

Fedor got less than half of what Sylvia got????

Hey, that’s American capitalism at its finest!

Nah i doubt it.. thats probably just what was on paper.. im sure Fedor made over a mil. If he fought for 300K the UFC would have scooped him up quickly, exclusive rights or not, thats a bargain basement price for the best HW in the world..

I don’t know about that. The whole deal with Fedor and the UFC truly was the exclusive clause that would prevent him from competing in Sambo and other events in Russia. It really didn’t have anything to do with money.

I really don’t think money is something Fedor cares about. The guy lives in a tine apartment back in Russia. He’s not trying to flaunt it and live it up like Rampage or Chuck

Doc seriously man, you cant really believe that, you gotta read between the lines. This isnt some crazy conspiracy theory, the fact is you cant always believe what you read.

Arlovski got a 250K bonus for beating Ben Rothwell, and Fedor got zero bonus for beating Tim and winning the wamma title? i dont believe that for a second..

These are just the figures released by CSAC, that doesnt mean thats what the fighter walked away with at the end of the night. It could be tax reasons or god knows what under the table deals go down.

The whole “I dont do it for the money thing is BS”. They should say “i dont do it ONLY for the money” which i agree with. Competing and the challenge, honor, etc.. that stuffs all great but lets face it money is a HUGE part of it man.

If thats the case, why doesnt Fedor just fight for free? its always about the money man, if not for himself, then for his family.

I’m not stupid enough to think he only made $300,000. But in the same regard Tim Sylvia made more than $800,000 as well.

And its pretty common for the top guys to not get victory bonuses. Most of the top guys just have a base pay and get a cuz of PPV revenue instead of doing the whole win bonus thing.

I know Fedor made more than just $300,000 but that doesn’t mean that he made more than Sylvia. Its all what they negotiate into their contract and Monte Cox knows how to get the most for his guys. I mean, come on, Ben Rothwell got $250,000. That’s coming straight from the IFL!

with a 3mil budget they can’t afford to do too many locker room bonuses I’d about bet that what’s reported on this paper is pretty much what they went home with.

Well im not the only one who thinks Fedor made more..

Heres what the guy at MMApayout said

“More than likely there was some additional pay for Fedor Emilianenko that was paid prior to the card (signing bonus, Apparel payments, PPV Bonuses are some possible payments that wouldn’t be included in CSAC numbers) that would increase his pay significantly.”

I’m not sure about other fighters but according to my reliable source Fedor got paid close to $2.5 Million alone, which includes PPV percentage and sponsorships with Affliction being one of them. But they don’t include Fedors true payout due to international tax fees ect…

Comment by bvrasp about 4 months ago

that might be a bit inflated, but it sounds much closer to his actual earnings than 300K.

So theres been a bunch of rumors about the NEXT Affliction fightcard.. They say its gonna be Nov 8.

They plan to have Fedor, Barnett and Arlovksi back and hopefully Aleks will be on the next card.

The fact that theyre gonna have these guys back so soon is just amazing. Looks like were probably gonna see Barnett vs Fedor and Andrei vs Aleks. WOW! been waiting a long time to see Josh take on Fedor, ofcourse im with Fedor but thats gonna be a real dogfight.

The best thing about Affliction is they put together the fights we want to see. They have all these great fighters and they actually FIGHT each other. If the UFC had these guys, we would see Fedor, Barnett, Arlovski and Aleks all fighting some rookie newcomers for about 6 months, then MAYBE they would put together 1 good match.

The UFC matchmaking is terrible, im glad Affliction is here, its a real FAN peasing organization, its not ONLY about making money. As we can see judging by the fact they lost a few mil on this card and they plan to lose a few more mil on the next card.

I do agree with you BVRASP, Affliction recognizes the skill level, matches are well put together and they satisfy their fighters financially. Hopefully they won’t get greedy in later shows. And what better way to market themselves then to promote their own show/clothing line.
I have always said that both Josh Barnett and Andrey Arlovksi have a great chance on beating Fedor. The advantage Fedor has over them is “Strategy”. His trainers come up with a solid game plan on exploding his opponent’s weaknesses, and Fedor knows how to execute and stick with that strategy plan. That is something you don’t see a lot of fighters do, is to stick to their original winning plan. They find themselves in the mix of punches, kick, takedowns, and next thing you know they fall back to their main basic knowledge which they probably started with. Either it be Wrestling, Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, ect
