MMAWeekly.com has an interesting article today regarding a possible rematch between current EliteXC lightweight champion KJ Noons and Nick Diaz.
Apparently the crew over at EliteXC want to have the Noons-Diaz rematch in place for the next CBS Saturday Night Fights event on October 4th but Noons and Co. don’t seem that interested.
“Nick Diaz is the No. 1 contender. K.J. Noons should step up and be the champion that we think he is and take this fight. Nick Diaz will take this fight any place, anywhere,” [Jared] Shaw told MMAWeekly.com. “(Noons’ management) won’t even return our calls.”
“I don’t understand it. This fight on CBS is maximum exposure and the opportunity for maximum sponsorship dollars, way more than he could make on Showtime. At this point, I question his management.”
Shaw was quick to point out, however, that they support Noons as their champion. “We believe in K.J. as our champion. For some reason (his camp) is not coming straight out and saying no, but they are making it very difficult to make it happen.”
“His manager doesn’t want us talking to him directly. Who knows what K.J. even knows about the situation, but his management is holding us hostage.”
With time winding down to be able to promote such a marquee fight properly for Oct. 4, Shaw seemed to be running out of hope that the bout would get done in time for the promotion’s third edition of CBS-EliteXC Saturday Night Fights. He did say, however, that EliteXC officials are ready to make the fight happen if Noons and his camp would agree to it.
“Hopefully K.J. wants the fight and hopefully he will instruct his management to take the fight,” commented Shaw. “K.J. signed a contract. All we want is for him to honor that contract, fight on Oct. 4 on CBS, and prove that he’s the champion we think he is. Right now, he’s not representing us as the EliteXC champion.”
Very interesting situation. Is the case the Noons really doesn’t want to fight Diaz again? I, for one, doubt it. I think this is more of a case of EliteXC trying to force Noons to take the fight on Oct. 4 by going public with this information. Who knows why Noons’ camp doesn’t want the fight in October, but lets not assume they are simply trying to duck Nick Diaz.

i think putting that belt on Noons’ waist made his head swell a bit. i remember him saying Diaz needs to beat a few more top guys to work his way back up to title contention….. what? since when does a guy with a 7-2 record (with his two biggest wins coming in his last two fights) have the right to talk like that? he beat Diaz by cut stoppage and he beat Yves with a quick flash KO, in no way were ether win overly impressive or dominating. if you look at the level Diaz has competed at for years and look at what Noons has done, you should be saying Noons doesnt belong in the ring with Diaz not the other way around. how do you think KJ would do against guys like Gomi, Riggs, Lawler, Parisyan. Lytle, or Sherk?
LOL thats funny man, hes the champ and they cant get him into the cage. What do you do in that situation?? As far as i know, the fighter should have no choice about who he fights.
What if he decides he doesnt want to fight anyone? LOL, “no thanks, im the champ, i dont need to fight”. When your #1, theres nowhere to go but down.
Its a weird situation because we dont really know whats going on, but i think Elite really needs to step up and take control of their fighter. I think its pretty simple, they have Noons under contract, inform him or his team about his next opponent and the date and venue. If they say they cant do it or dont like it, or they say KJ is injured or anything, say OK, leave him off the fight card. BUT he is NOT getting to fight someone else… Maybe 3 months later, try to put it together again, if hes still ducking and doesnt want to defend his title, you have to take it from him..
yeah man its a tough one, you wanna give the fighters some freedom but you also want to make sure they live up the there end of the deal. i can see if they have someone else in mind for the fight then sure give him the choice but then MAKE him fight Diaz next. and if its just a case of Noons just not wanting to fight thats even worse, who else has a job were then can say “nah i dont wanna do it”? if i go to work tomorrow and my boss says “ok your gonna be on the crappiest, slowest press tonight” and i say “nah im just gonna go over and count the parts i did last night” im not going to have my job very long. i know about 20 guys (including myself) that would give there left nut to trade places with KJ AND fight ANYONE they put in front of them, sh*t i will fight Fedor this weekend and every weekend after (all 161lbs. of me lol) if you told me i will be able to feed my family by doing it. ive been nosing around this fight game for quite some time and one thing i noticed is that the “spoiled lil rich kids” get the shots long before “poor folk” like me, the problem with that is someone like me will fight to there dying breath because they have to, there is nothing to go back to, whereas the other guy just dips into his savings account and goes to school and becomes a doctor or lawyer. the times of Jon Doe of the street who trains in a f*cked old gym with his bros getting his chance is almost gone and we are moving into the era of having to pay $5000 a week to train at Xtream Coutures just to get noticed.
Latest development in the Noons ducking Diaz story lol. Elite has given Noons 24 hours to accept the fight.. or else what? everyone is gonna say hes Ducking Nick? theyre already saying that anyways..
Noons has been talking about going back to boxing, plus he has that douche Dion as his manager who already screwed Vera over.
Another Update on the Diaz Noons fiasco Doc.. the 24 hours is up and Dion is running his mouth as usual. Hes ignoring anything Elite has to say, as if he calls the shots not the promotion, he plans to hold his own press conference to talk about it LOL.
who does this guy really think he is?? this guy will do anything to draw attention to himself, trying to make more money for HIMSELF not the fighters he represents. Dragging another fighters good name through the mud for his own personal benefit.
Im really hating this guy, you dont see any other managers pulling these kind of stunts.. I think all the promotions should just black ball him and not allow any fighter who he manages to fight for them. In the end no fighter will touch him with a 10 ft pole and hopefully he will move on to something else..

hey guys….its him and his manager… noons is scared I believe
yeah Pat im thinking the same thing, if Noons gets hammered this time he’ll look foolish for patting him self on the back for big a win with a cut stoppage.
ill put all my dollas on diaz for the rematch….after seein diaz lately he looks like a warrior
strip noons then
Patrick, i dont really think Noons himself is trying to duck Diaz, but his manager is making all these moves for him. Dion is making it LOOK like hes ducking him, and thats what the whole world will believe that hes afraid.
What Noons has to do is fire that douche, then get a real manager whos down to earth and continue fighting. Right now hes the champ and his manager is making him look like a chicken, thats not a good look for the champ man.. that guy cant manage sht.. he already destroyed his own fighters rep.
If things keep on like this.. and KJ keeps this idiot as his manager, they WILL strip him of the title. You dont pick and choose who you want to fight.
You think GSP asked for Serra? or Nog asked for Mir? its ALL up to the UFC who fights who. If they want to feed you easy fights, they will, if they want to throw you to the wolves, they will.
Same with Elite, they tell this guy who hes fighting and when, now hes saying NO?? LOL you dont have a say man, either get in the cage and fight, or move on to boxing or watever..
