Away For a Week

Long time readers of MMA HQ may remember this post from just over two years ago now.

Well, that vacation cruise never happened thanks to a hurricane at the same time so the trip was postponed. Fast forward two years later and here we are ready to try that cruise again.

So, if all goes well this time, I will once again be gone for a week and posting on MMA HQ will be pretty light until I get back.

Hope everyone enjoys UFC Fight Night 15 on Wednesday and remembers to get their picks in for the MMA HQ fight camp. There won’t be any recap of the event afterwards so I’m hoping the readers can “recap” the event themselves in the comments.

Hopefully nothing “major” happens this week in the MMA world so I don’t miss out. Talk to you all in a week.

Enjoy Doc, I just came back from a my first cruise 2 weeks ago and it was the best time ever.

EVERYONE ELSE: Please read the Kimbo Slice/Ken Shamrock conference call notes…I almost fell out of my chair laughing at how hysterical it is…

lol Shamrock really likes to sell his fights eh? i dont think Ken has respect for anyone, till they beat the piss out of him and he has no choice but to give some dues lol.

Comment by Lam about 2 months, 1 week ago

haha… So true. I cant stand shamrock. Like you said he respects no one until he is forced to, he is such class-less fighter

Have a fun and safe trip, I’m sure MMA will still be here when you get back. Of course while you;re gone a UFC/Affliction partnership will be announced and Fedor/Randy will be scheduled for Jan.

How about the part where Shamrock calls Kimbo a “Jabronie”…hahahahahahahaha

Have a good trip doc, i guess your not gonna be making a preview for this event with your picks? dont worry about the recap, we can handle that.

Ok guys, lets talk about UFN..

Im picking almost all the underdogs in this event.

I got Mac over Guida, i think hes gonna be tough to deal with at 155 so i got Danzig by split decision.

Im very strongly siding with Neer to beat Diaz, though i like nate and hes a great up an comer, Neer is just a beast on the feet and hes good enough on the ground. Diaz is tough so he will probably survive till the end, so i got Neer by split decision.

The biggest underdog, I got Eric Schafer over Houston Alexander. I say Houston is getting submitted in the first round, its a tough call, but the guy has ZERO skills, so im picking the upset in this one too.

Then i got Belcher over Herman 2nd round tko..

so thats 4 underdogs for this card, my wagers are also all about the underdog picks. Mostly on Neer, if he loses to Diaz, my plans are all down the drain..

well i guess I’ll add my UFN preview too….

Diaz/Neer: I got Nate by submission in round 3 here. I think this fight will get to the ground at least a few times and Diaz has all the skills to submit Neer, the reason Im saying third round is because Nate is a slow starter and I think Neer is going to beat him up for a bit before he falls too deep into the comfort zone and then falls in to the submission.

Danzig/Guida: Im gonna go with Mac on this one, I see Guida as a lightweight gatekeeper and if you can get past him you ready for the upper tier and I think Mac is going to make that Plateau very soon. Clays wide open, go for broke style I think will be his downfall because Danzig is just well rounded enough to capitalize on the mistakes of an over zealous Guida. Im calling for a round 2 submission for Mac Danzig.

Herman/Belcher: I dont know why Belcher is the underdog in this fight, I guess hes had few stumbles lately and his stock has dropped a bit. I think Belcher is one of the more underrated guys in the middleweight division and Herman is one of the more overrated guys in the middleweight division. Im expecting Belcher to pick Herman apart on their feet for just about the whole fight with maybe a late fight TKO stoppage.

Schafer/Alexander: I have Alexander by round 1 TKO, but I dont feel all that good about that pick. my thought is that Alexander NEEDS a win so Im expecting him to try for the bumrush quick, TKO in the first is the only way I really see Houston ending it in his favor so thats why I got it that way.

undercard picks:
Alessio Sakara Vs. Joe Vedepo- Vedepo round 1 TKO, no real reason other then this is my underdog pick and I dont think Sakara has a chin.
Wilson Gouveia Vs. Ryan Jensen- Jensen unanimous decision, Gouveia is in a bit of a funk and I think he needs one more lost to wake him up.
Joe Lauzon Vs. Kyle Bradley- Lauzon round to TKO, because he can.
Jason Brilz Vs. Brad Morris- Brilz unanimous decision, because I flipped a coin and he won the toss and UD is a safe way to go.
Drew McFedries Vs. Mike Massenzio- McFedries round 1 KO, because I really like McFedries and that how I want the fight to go.
Dan Miller Vs. Rob Kimmons- Kimmons round 2 submission, again my lucky coin says so and Kimmons seems like hes go some submission skill with 13 of 21 fights won by sumission.

Heres a match for you RJ, Houston vs Mcfedries. Joe silva needs to make that fight happen man, could you imagine that?? haha now thats a fight!

Comment by R.J. St.Croix about 2 months, 1 week ago

lol that would be like one of those cartoon cat fights where you see just a ball of smoke and fists flying every direction and after about 15 seconds one would be left standing and the other would be napping lol.

Comment by R.J. St.Croix about 2 months, 1 week ago

ether that or look like Frye vs. Takayama, now that would be cool!

has anyone else heard anything about Affliction teaming up with Golden Boy Promotions? from what I gather they want to do like a co-promotion sort of thing where they have %50 boxing and %50 MMA, I think this idea is good for boxing fans but crap for MMA fans. once the boxing fans are kinda forced into watching MMA they WILL realize how exciting it is and that it is a legit and classy sport, on the other hand most MMA purists have watched boxing before and feel like its lacking in a lot of the places where MMA shines brightest. I for one do not want to have to sit through a boring 12 or 8 round boxing match in between the fights Im really paying to see, if I found the need to watch a boxing match I would buy the pay per view and watch it. its kinda like if they decided to change football so the first and third quarter was football and the second and fourth were soccer, do you think the football fans (American & European) would be happy about that? I dont think so, so maybe they should leave our fine sport alone too.

Naw, never heard about that RJ, but i agree that would be terrible. I cant even watch K1 or abu dhabi these days, its gotta be full MMA or its just lacking. Boxing? lol thats so far off my radar its not even funny.

If they decide to make that move, i agree with Doc, he said affliction would be gone within 18 months. They have pretty much made every mistake in the book so far, especially with their fighter payroll. Then they dont want fighters to treat them like a cash cow, what did they think would happen when your paying guys 3-4 times whats considered normal in the industry.

Its great for us tho, get Fedor back in the ring, barnett, arlovski, sylvia, the list goes on and on.. they will eventually go broke but in that time were gonna get to see some much anticipated fights. Pride vs UFC, but not in Pride or the UFC. Love you guys while your around, but dont do the boxing thing..
