McFedries to Replace Reljic at UFC 90

Reports are now surfacing that Drew McFedries will fight Thales Leites at UFC 90 in a light heavyweight matchup.

Leites was originally scheduled to fight Goran Reljic, but Reljic had to withdraw from the bout due to a recent back injury. While Reljic’s camp didn’t release any specifics about the injury, they did say he would be out of action for several months.

McFedries will now step in as a late replacement to fight Leites, who has won his last four fights in the UFC. Drew last fought at UFC Fight Night 15 where he lost via decision submission to Mike Massenzio in the first round.

UFC 90 is currently scheduled for October 25 in Rosemont, IL and will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between current champion Anderson Silva and challenger Patrick Cote. Also on the card are matches between Thiago Alves and Diego Sanchez, Tyson Griffin and Sean Sherk, and Hermes Franca and Gleison Tibau.

i dont think the winner of this fight is going to any further ahead then he is right now, its not going to boost anyone to a title shot and the loser wont fall off the map. they are really going to need to sort out the middle weights some time soon, it seems like there trying to build Bisping up to a contender shot but what are they gonna do after Anderson kills him? who is next? they should be taking guys like McFedries and Leites and giving them two or three cans to build them up then make them fight each other, that way they dont have every fighter in the division batting .500 and people get a bit more excited about a contender.

Ya i agree with that RJ, Leites definately has a solid future ahead of him, but i dunno what theyre doing with McFedries.. it seems to me they dont want him to move up in the rankings (or in the money list). This way they always have an exciting striker just a phone call away and they can keep paying him small amounts of money.

Not to say Drew is a contender, because hes not, but everytime he gets a win, they match him up with a BJJ guy to prevent him from stringing together a few wins. Like i said, its his fault hes not better on the ground, but im sure they could put together some better matches for him against strikers.

I would have rather seen Drew vs Reljic than Leites.. but whatever..

Oh goddamit.. Now Diegos out and Alves is fighting Kos.. im telling you man, UFC 90 is cursed or something.. Im not a fan of Koscheck, i dont like his style of fighting, on the plus side it be nice to see Alves beat him up a bit.
