Full Contact Fighter is reporting that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is going to be out of action for at least 6 months as he recovers from the injury he suffered in his fight with Mark Coleman at Pride 31.
Unfortunately, it turned out that Rua had fractured his elbow, as well as ruptured all his elbow ligaments. As a result, the Chute Boxe star will most likely need surgery on his elbow to correct the problem, and will have to be sidelined for around six months without training and as little arm movement as possible to secure proper recovery.
In the UFC, Middleweight Champion Rich “Ace” Franklin is also expected to miss 6-8 months after breaking his hand against David Loiseau at UFC 58. The following comes from UFC.tv
UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin is recovering in Las Vegas after undergoing surgery Tuesday to repair a broken left hand suffered in defense of his title Saturday against David Loiseau. The Cincinnati native, who scored a unanimous decision over Loiseau at UFC 58, had a plate and seven screws inserted in his hand, which was injured in round two of the five round bout. He is expected to be out for 6 to 8 months.

Man that is a nasty looking photo!
Shogun really suffered a bad injury. He HAS to let that elbow heal completely before even attempting to train else it could give him all sorts of problems in the future.
Yeah, that photo is one of my favorites.
I hope Shogun doesn’t try to push his recovery and start training again to soon. He was one of Pride’s biggest starts and to lose him would be huge for the whole organization and for the Chute Boxe team.
