TUF3

Well, the “regular season” of The Ultimate Fighter season 4 is over and we have our four finalists. Ed Herman will face Kendall Grove in the middleweight division and Michael Bisping will face Josh Haynes in the light heavyweight division. I don’t know about the average fan, but neither of these fights are intriguing to me at all.

Just a quick review of the matchups. Ed Herman has a record of 10-3 and holds some quality wins over Dave Menne and Nick Thompson and a tough loss to Joe Doerksen by submission. Kendall Grove has a record of 5-3 and has mostly fought in Hawaii to this point. His one big-name fight was in a Rumble on the Rock tournament where he lost in the first round to Joe Riggs.

Josh Haynes has a record of 7-4 and what may be surprising to most is the fact that 6 of his 7 wins have come by way of submissions. For a guy that was talked up as a striker on TUF 3, he seems to have a good submission game, and that is what brought him to the finals. Michael Bisping is undefeated at 10-0 and has fought solely in Europe to this point

The live finale on June 24 might end up being a pretty boring show. It really may be unfair to compare this finale to the prior finales, especially after the Griffin vs. Bonnar fight of season one. A much more exciting card is lined up just four days later on June 28 for the Ultimate Fight Night 4.

At UFN4 we’ll see the debut of Anderson Silva in the UFC octagon as he faces off against Chris Leben. This is be one of the first major tests for Leben, and I look for Silva to win this fight easily. We also will see good matchups between Stephan Bonnar and Rashad Evans and between Dave Menne and Josh Koshcheck.
