Well, I can pretty much guarantee that a fight between UFC Champion Chuck Liddell and PrideFC Champion Wanderlei Silva will not happen this November as was promised by UFC President Dana White at UFC 59. I’ve already mentioned a few times that there was a strong chance this fight wasn’t going to take place.
After Chuck’s victory over Renato Sobral at UFC 61, the rumor has been that Chuck and Tito Ortiz will have their title rematch on December 30 at UFC 66. That is assuming, of course, that Tito will defeat Ken Shamrock for a third time when they fight again on October 10th in Florida on a UFC Fight Night card. With Silva scheduled to fight in the Pride Open Weight Grand Prix finals in October and Chuck tentatively scheduled to fight Tito again in December, there is no way either fighter will also be fighting in November.
This does not mean the fight between Liddell and Silva will never happen; just not this coming November as was initially promised. I still have strong doubts it will ever happen. Maybe after the Pride FC: The Real Deal show in October in Las Vegas, we will have a better idea about the fight. If Pride fails to make a “big splash” here in the US, they may be more likely to try to finalize a deal with the UFC to get some more cross-promotion. Although, I still have a feeling that it is Dana White and the UFC that is keeping this fight from happening, not DSE and Pride.

when vitor belfort fought wanderlei, that fight right there proves my statements correct that i listed above on why wanderlei should not beat chuck!!!!!! I think that fight was 44 seconds in the first round that wanderlei got ko’d, now im not saying that wanderlei cant win against chuck, but if chuck switches to the chuck that fought jeremy horn then he should when if he delivers straight rights or lefts to wanderlei. If i were chuck i would capitalize on wanderlei constant faking in and give in a straight jab that could rock him early and set up for a big finish, but then again wanderlei has great recovery skill as he showed in the tito fight and in the dan henderson fight, but chuck wont let silva grab him, but we will se how wanderlei responds to dan henderson in this next fight in feb.
lol straightt up…liddell will not be able to handle silva…everyone talks about how he he lost to ortiz and chuck knocked out ortiz…first of all if any of you actually watched the fight youd see that tito litereally ran away from Silva the whole match, and only won cause of his take downs, and the ufc point scoring system, he didnt “beat” wanderlei, he was too scared to even trade hands with him, if he did it would;ve been an even worse outcome then liddell vs ortiz 1&2. Now, when liddel fought rampage, it was an amazing fight, and it could;ve gone both ways untill the latter part of the fight, when chucks game just got compeletely dismantled, and his power punches, kicks, and everything he had became obsolete. Rampage distroyed his life…now when rampage fought silva..in both matched rampage had no chance, and was beaten on all levels. his striking became obsolete, his take downs same thing, all his defenses were taken away, he had no chance, and infact was lucky, because if it went any longer, he would be in serrious trouble. Chuck always fights within his own weight class..Silva fights heavy weaights and beats the crap outta them…look at the calibre of fighters Silva has taken out, and the way he finished all his matches compared to those of liddel, for the most part you cant even compare. Chuck liddell has never faced an opponent with the skill and furiousity of wanderlei silva. liddell is the champ so ill give him the respect that he deserves, and i think he will do some what well, but in the end hes going to get knocked out, or beatin to a bloody pulp with a ref stoppage, like all his matches..
UFC cannot touch pride…pride has better fighters, better organization, and pride fighters are used to 10 min rounds , as opposed to 5 min rounds, and that would prove to makea difference.. think for a second..when wanderlei fought Crocop the first time, it mirrored the fight between Crocopvs Fedor the pride heavyweight champ.., and he came out with draw..i dont even feel liek i should be explaining this…if prides best went up against ufc best, pride would come ontop hands down…
something to think about… Fedor Vs Silvia..or is that a dumb dream match?
i’ve been saying for a long time we need to see fedor in ufc and fighting for the title. sylvia vs fedor wouldnt be much of a match i think most of us know what would happen. but i still would love to see them go. just for the highlight reel that would probably come from it.
Ok, enough is enough,… DayDay! There is no way Silva will beat Chuck, simply because he’ll make the same fatal mistake that all agressive fighters make, namely coming within reach! Chuck will do Silva exactly what he did Babalu…..period.
How can you even for one minute that Silva can stand with the Iceman?
I agree with Todd on this one. Vanderlei has shown that his bullying and intimidation is ineffective against experienced, strong fighters. Even though both of their fight games have matured, Chuck would eventually catch him and use his over agressiveness against him. It just takes one punch from Chuck.
All i have to say is watch this clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDUbdVGqNCk&mode=related&search=
Now watch this clip of wanderlei vs jackson and you will see who the better fighter is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBrDohihhwE
Liddell vs Silvia would be awesome!!!! Alot of people don’t realize who Silvia is, all they see is American based UFC. Pride is not shown on Spike Tv so people in the States do not realize how good those fighters are. Both Liddell and Silvia have fought in some crazy fights. To put both of these men in the octagon would just be adreline rush exciting!!! Liddell has one more loss to avenge before he has beaten everyone he has ever faced. Rampage Jackson!!!That should be the next fight for Liddell. Liddell vs Silvia, sick!!!! My two favorite fighters, I can’t pick, they both kick ***!!!!! The Octagon is Liddell compared to the ring of Silvia. This could give Liddell a bit of an advantage, but when you fight a rabbied starved pitbull (Silvia)who really knows??????????
And I never want to see Ortis in the Octagon with Liddell again. Ortis should drop weight class if he wants a belt….
yeah i know, its gonna turn into another pathetic series, liek the whole ortiz vs shamrock..waste of damn time, i don tknow anyone who wanted to watch that..
The entire UFC lanscape has just changed within the last 3 months more than it had for years prior. Just think about it… 6 months ago, Franklin, Sylvia, and Hughes could have single-handedly been a main event draw on a PPV. Now they need to combine them together just to try and stir something up. I don’t think it will mnake any difference. Our so-called HW champion’s time is just about to run out, while Anderson will hold the middleweight belt for quite some time, and Hughes will probably not regain any of his former stature. It’s weird how when Hughes beat up Gracie, he mentioned how the sport has evolved and that Royce type of fighters can no longer compete in it, meanwhile, just a few months later, he proved that he hadn’t evolved much himself.
I still can’t believe that Liddell vs. Wandi never came through. That was such a bs tease to all the fans.
Reading the comments on this forum I notice that some people are on one fighter’s jock (not matter who the fighter is) All I know is there is a time when everybody loses a fight(hughes hasn’t lost in 5 years look what happen recently!) chuck is 37 years old Im not really impressed with his resume( he hasn’t fought Sakurabi, Arona, Rua, Hollywood Henderson,Hideoki,Nogeruria,and most of all silva, you keep saying chuck a better fighter now(silva is tooooo!!!!) I promise you Jackson is the real deal,if chuck wants to beat him(its verypossible) he has to train hard and take him lightly. and if he does beat jackson, he still has to beat somebody from the Braziltopteam or Chute box academey to get any respect from me!!!!
cody were the hell have u been at buddy finally someone that agrees with me that rampage has a chance at beating liddel
I watch both UFC and Pride FC, and I have favorites in both sport. I would have to admit that there are excellent fighters in both UFC and Pride. We can’t bring up old fights like Silva vs Tito, or Chuck Lidell vs Rampage Jackson, because neither fighters (chuck / silva) were at their prime. They are at their prime now, and it would be hard to predict who would win, considering both Chuck and Silva are solid strikers. I do prefer Silva, but I wont let my own bias effect my prediction of who would win. But without a doubt, I can say that Pride FC is much tougher than UFC, considering the rules are more open, so fighters in effect need to deal with the knees and kicks on the floor, as well as stomps and what not. Also, the toughest and best fighters are in Pride. Two of the best fighters in the world, Fedor Emelianenko and Mike Crocop, who you can ask virtually anyone and they would say that those are the top fighters PERIOD. There was actually a list that showed top 10 fighters in heavyweight class of all MMA’s. Number 1 was Fedor and 2 was Crocop. Wanderlei actually fought with Crocop, winning the first and losing the second. But putting this into consideration, that Wanderlei can squab with the one of the best fighters in MMA, I can argue my postion that Wanderlei has a great chance against Chuck Lidell. Sure Chuck has fought some great fighters, but you absolutely cannot compare them to fighters like Crocop, who literally has a majority of his knockouts with his powerful (rib breaking) kicks and Fedor, who is number 1 in MMA and who has defeated Crocop. If any of you need more tangible evidence, go to youtube and look up some highlights on Fedor and Crocop.
hey davy have u heard that cro crop is in the ufc now so maybe the ufc is trying to get better talent and i have a feeling that fedor will soon come over once the ufc stops hoarding all the profits and spreading it to the fighters better
liddel would be done if silva fought him.. theres now way he could stand up with silvas muay thai abilities and if crop cop fought liddel.. it would be a stupid move for the Ufc .. cro cop is gunna start eatin people
lol cro cop will tear apart the ufc…PRIDE fighters will be the new face of ufc, anderson silva started it and more will follow… you waite and see
wand is the man
who ever says iceman is a better fighter than wand doesnt study fights. look at the last four years of the diffrent fighters they faced. starting with the iceman/tito/randy3 times/ sabral2/.now lets look at wandsilva /hunt/arona twice/crocop twice/jackson twice/ nakamura/yoshida twice/henderson soon to be twice.to me pridefc has the best fighters in the world.and if chuck would have beat jackson in the tournement we would seen wand do the same thing to chuck what he did to jackson. he had a chance he just wasnt good enough to make it to the final round.so for you who doesnt like wand chew on that.yeah chuck has improved but silva has improved on a diffrent level.theres nothing better than to see silva step on his face over and over like he did kondo
People are dumbasses. Saying that Pride is better than UFC is just as stupid as comparing fighters in different weight classes. Judging fighters only works on an INDIVIDUAL BASIS. Making general statements about which organization is better just because one lets you stomp on the others head or the other lets you elbow in the face on the ground is not only ignorant its down right moronic. Use your logic people. Are there good fighters in Pride? yes. Are there crappy fighters in Pride? hell yes, lots of them. Same goes for UFC, EXCEPT, that because anyone can fight in Pride and you have to be invited to be in UFC with a contract, there is a larger percentage of skilled fighters in the UFC than in Pride. Does that mean that fighters like fedor and cro cop aren’t great fighters? no of course not, they’re incredible, and might very well beat lots of people in the UFC. What it does mean is that their skilled are inflated because of the smaller number of skilled fighters in pride. Now, as far as heavyweights, the UFC has very small number of them, so adding new fighters into the mix was a necessity. Fedor was offered a deal, he turned it down. Light heavyweights, there’s just too much speculation…no one knows who the best is until they fight. I will say this though, Silva was in the UFC a few years ago and literally couldn’t hack it, so he dropped back to pride. BUT, he’s a much better fighter now, so things could have changed, same as for chuck, and i think that we can all agree that rampage is out of shape and out of training, its gonna take a while to get him back to the level of any of the world class light weights (if you don’t agree you’re an idiot). There are world class fighters in both organizations, probably all quite close in skill to each other, but let’s face it, UFC is the big show, Pride is what gets you started. End of story.
Well i personelly dont like comparing ufc and pride, i think they both have there share of excellent fighters. And you if you look at the whole fighting art, anything can happen, I just think it is a matter on who is 100 percent that night on all aspects of their game regardless if they are a stand-up striker or a submission specialist . Yes pride has some fighters and ufc has some fighters that i think could beat pride fighters and visa versa. But if wandy were to meet chuck right now i think that it wuld still be an awsome fight regardless, even though wandy is comming off of a loss i wouldnt put him in the ring with chuck right now, i would see how his mental confidence is after losing to dan, once he gets back to his old self then i would like to see him fight some more, but in this sport the big picture and the big quote should be “who knows” lol
Now that The UFC has bought PRIDE, there have been a few questions answered. Cro-cop can’t walk in and “tear apart” the UFC, as a matter of fact he was knocked out at his own game by a BJJ specialist. Even his BJJ trainer was handled on the same ticket. It isn’t a matter of who beat who in the past. It all depends on who put in the time for that particular fight. Who is the most determined and can stick to their plan. No one here can say 100% that one person can beat another. The time frame in which these fighters have been around, both have matured drastically. If they hadn’t, they wouldn’t be where they are at today. Just my two cents.
@Illist
I almost agree with you bro…..except for the fact that fighters have fans who will pull for their favorite……….no matter how fugly.
The fighter who wants it more…………..usually wins.
The fighter who lets his opponent fight their fight…………………
………………stares up at the lights!
Well, all Chuck had to do is beat Jardine to finally make the Silva fight happen. But instead he lost….****.
Yeah Piranha I agree.. I mean a few months ago Dana White was lambasting Pride for putting their best guy, (Wand) up against Mirco Cro Cop in an open weight tourney while carrying 3 “regular” fights in 2006….. Dana was calling them every name in the book for putting the greatest fight match up in the history of mma in peril …. well he just did the same thing… idiot..
HAHAHA I TOLD ALL U HATIN *** ****** LIDDELL WOULD WIN SILVA WASNT EVEN CLOSE TO WINNING CHUCK OUTSTRUCK WANDERLEI THE WHOLE TIME LANDING BOMB AFTER BOMB AND A SPINNING BACKFIST EVEN TOOK HIM DOWN LIKE TWICE SO TO EVERYONE THAT SAID SILVA WOULD KNOCKOUT LIDDEL THAT PRIDE FIGHTERS ARE BETTER WELL **** U CAUSE YALL JUST GOT PROVED WRONG LIDDELL WILL BE CHAMP AGAIN SOMEDAY
dang johnny lay off the roids bro
kansas
u gonna pull a dennis and dissapear when ur fighter loses?
@Patrick
I have been on here more than you in the past 2 days dummbasss … no I am not leaving, my fighter didn’t get MELTED in under 1minute of the FIRST ROUND he lost a hard fought decision to one of the most precise strikers in the biz, I am still Wand’s biggest fan and I still think he has a bright future in the UFC…
I agree kansas
@patrick
Sorry I got a little “salty” there.. didn’t mean to swear at you bro.. got nothing but love for my brothers here at mmahq… HAPPY NEW YEARS! 2008 IS GONNA BE A GREAT YEAR FOR MMA!
I guess you all realize the truth now….too bad it took so long.
