David LoiseauDavid Loiseau recently confirmed that his contract with the UFC has been terminated. Here is a quote from his personal blog:

Hello all, just here to keep you informed on whats going on with me. Hopefully, MY REAL FANS WILL FOLLOW ME WHEREVER I GO. The UFC recently cancelled my contract following my decision loss at UFC63. It saddens me because I felt like the UFC was my home. But I guess I’ll have to find a new place to call home. Right now Im in SanDiego training with Brandon Vera and Rob Kaman. Brandon is in solid shape for his fight.Dont worry guys, I WILL come back VERY STRONG. Im extremely motivated! Stay tuned, and Ill keep yall posted on whats next for me. Dont forget about my new CROWEAR clothing line available online at WWW.THEFIGHTNETWORK.COM

Personally, I’m disappointed with this news but not all that surprised. I think the UFC needs Loiseau as a solid figher in a somewhat weakening Middleweight Division.

  1. Like I said on my blog, I feel he will be back eventually, just like I believe Lindland will be back eventually. However I disagree that the division is weak. Its not the strongest UFC division (which I believe is the Lightweight personally), but, for example, I feel the LHW division is actually weaker than the middleweight.

I’m not saying the Middleweight division is weak yet, just that it is weakening. Now with Anderson Silva at the helm, I think its going to start to look a whole lot weaker with each title defense. But the middleweight division is still one of the UFC’s strongest weight classes.

To be honest, when there was no word or utter of the crow over the last two months I kind of knew that this was going to happen. Yet another fighter that offers so much to the division and to the UFC is gone. Now that is not to say that Loiseau in his last showing was impressive because it wasn’t, then again coming off the Franklin fight many could argue that he should have been more determined with Swick. There are so many “what if” scenarios that could be used. I am upset that he will not be fighting in the UFC and I would like to think that he might be a very good addition to one of the IFL teams if nothing else becomes available. Who knows, maybe Loiseau will show up on TUF: The Comeback 2!

i am starting to believe that the ufc will eventually become like boxing and have one huge fight and a lot of succky others even though i watch cuz i like the fights big names or not people need time to grow into themselves so the crow might come back stronger but the ufc is in it for money now and the crow even though he is a good fighter he probabaly wont bring in a lot of money

It’s from his myspace blog, not from his personal website blog.

Losing David is losing a high caliber fighter. I reallly can’t think of a better gate keep to the upper reaches of the middle weight division. It’s shame the UFC let him go, never shouldd a fighter of his caliber be cast aside. You keep people like him around for aslong as possible.

  8. babalu32 says:

Well, in some cases you cast fighters aside that are not going to provide you with the type of revenues that you expect or know other fighters will give you. It was mentioned earlier by Richard in talking about the draw. Unless there is a massive amount of money that can be made it would almost seems like fighters on the edge of either increasing their status or falling off the radar are usually kicked off before that one fight where you can say that they have lost what it takes to fight here. I may even be reaching a bit when I say that it would appear that the UFC is providing a valuable avenue for those MMA fighters that have been on the smaller shows an opportunity to show what they have at the UFC level. Based on some of those guys it gives the UFC the chance to save money on the fighter payroll to give an unproven fighter at the UFC level a chance and cut some of those fighters that have been walking the fine line of being a top rated fighter or b rated fighter. Even to suggest that maybe a fighter would have to fight on the smaller shows and work their way back to the UFC is something else. As I said before, I kind of knew this would happen with Loiseau but I hope it makes him a better fighter and more focused wherever he ends up.
