I dont think Showtime will do well unless they draft Pride Fighters or big names. There is more to MMA than just a good presentation or platform for the sport, you have to have reputable fighters that are well know. EVERYONE knows Tyson, Holyfield, Del Lahoya, and Foreman. What happened to boxing, they had a great platform, backing, money, ect. They ran out of BIG NAME FIGHTERS. So, Showtime will sink fast on this if they dont get a slew of good fighters, and that will be tough if the UFC keeps buying out the competition and their contracts with them…

  4. Justo says:

Congrats to The Crow. I’m glad you got another chance to fight somewhere else so soon but I really think this new organization is going to end up flopping. UFC is going to dominate this sport. I think competition is good for you fighters so that you can make more money when there are different companies fighting for you but I do think this new co is going to be a joke. I do think you came up short w/The UFC, I mean Mike Swick is good but you just aren’t an exciting draw and when you fought him and Rich Franklin I knew you were going down. No disrespect I know you are good friends w/my favorite MMA fighter GSP but I can’t say I disagree w/UFC’s decision to part ways w/you. Either way good luck, you seem like a good guy and hopefully you prove me wrong and can finally dominate a fight against a big name.

  5. Amir says:

Hey…what do you guys think about Showtime joining the MMA phenomenon? I would imagine they have solid enough assets to throw around and acquire top talent.

  6. MAD says:

I think it’s good that the major networks are recognizing MMA as a true sport. Boxing is dying a slow death and I think HBO and Showtime realize this. I already have HBO but I added Showtime to my cable subscription just for the fact they are going to show Elite XC. If everything goes well both will start showing regular broadcasts. It sounds like Dana wants to put UFC on HBO but I heard that the first few broadcasts will be at midnight so I’m not sure how well that will work out. I just hope when the UFC premiers on HBO they get to bring in their own comentators because Larry Merchant and domestic boy Jim Lampley hate MMA and keep making retarded comments about it. No one needs to hear their bias opinions while trying to watch real fights. I think it’s good though just shows how MMA has come from the brink of doom to the mainstream. Being a fan from day one I don’t know what took everyone else so long to see what a great sport it is. Hope the momentum keeps rolling.

  7. Amir says:

Yeah…I guess it’s cool, just weird for me being a fan from the very beginnings of the organization. I feel like the UFC is my baby and I kinda like it the way it is. Just lately, there is so much talent there. I wonder what a competing organization with heavy monetary backing would do. Even though it would help market the mainstream of the sport, I hope it doesn’t do damage to the UFC trademark and brand name.

  8. Dennis says:

Amir, I don’t agree with everything you say, but maybe the stuff about Chuck & and now this. I wish HBO & SHO would keep their filthy paws off.

MMA can finally stand on it’s own. Where were those guys when we needed the muscle. Now we don’t. Let’s keep it that way.

  9. MAD says:

I just think Dana coming from a boxing background wants to show what he’s made MMA into. The UFC never needed muscle from HBO or Showtime to get where it is today just a great business man like Dana to turn it around. I for one am looking forward to not having to buy two PPV’s a month to see good fights. Being on HBO will allow the UFC to reach a broader audience and attact more fans which is good for everyone. With the extra money from PPV’s and sponsers Dana and copany will be able to keep bringing in the best fighters available like Crocop. What’s not to like about that?

  10. Dennis says:

Hey Mad, I would rather see the MMA channel, wouldn’t you?

  11. Dennis says:

But really, as good as Dana is, he couldn’t do it without the money. He now has the backing without HBO & SHO.

I always knew it would be BIG. In fact, after I saw the first fight, I bought the domain…extremefighting.tv, because I knew it was the future, but then Dana in his infinite wisdom opted to promote ultimate fighting instead of extreme fighting.

My simple point is…. HBO & SHO never supported MMA before TUF. If they would have, the sport would have blown up long ago. They chose instead to continue backing boxing…. bad choice.

  12. MAD says:

I’d love to have an MMA channel. Canada has something similar called the fight network. I think they realize the bad choice they made and are trying to jump on the ban waggon now. Luckely there’s enough room for all the doubters on the waggon to climb aboard. I just see this as the nail in the coffin for boxing and the begging of the golden age of MMA.

  13. Vince from Dallas says:

Carrier’s like DISH Netwotk, DIRECTV, and TimeWarner need to have The Fight Network over here in the states, I would love to watch Pride, Jungle Fights, UFC, K-1, and Boxing 24 HRS. a day!!!! So call your cable or dish company to get it on!!!!!!!!!!

  14. R.J. St.Croix says:

star choice has the fight channel and it costs like $2.99 a month so if you can get star choice jump on it. i think express view has it too if that helps anyone

  15. Billy says:

It’s a shame David is not in the UFC, he and GSP are fantastic fighters, and David is such a great person. I am sure he had issues in his family life, being from Montreal myself, i spoke with a close friend of his. When he is on his game, he is one tough dude to beat. David once you show everyone else that you’re back on your game, the UFC will come calling back, best of luck, from Laval,
