UFC 67, scheduled for February 3, 2007 (Super Bowl Weekend) was already looking like one of the best UFC cards ever: GSP vs. Matt Serra, Anderson Silva vs. Travis Lutter, Quinton Jackson vs Marvin Eastman, etc..
Now, it looks like UFC 67 will take an even bigger step up. It is widely expected that at UFC 66 this Saturday night, Dana White will announce the acquisitions of Mirko Cro Crop Filipovic and Heath Herring. And the current rumor is that Cro Cop will make his UFC debut at UFC 67 against Eddie Sanchez. Herring is expected to make his UFC debut on January 25 against Jake O’Brien on a UFC Fight Night card.
Man, adding Cro Cop, and even to a lesser extent Heath Herring, instantly vastly improves an anemic UFC Heavyweight Division. With Cro Cop around, Brandon Vera and even more importanly Tim Sylvia will need to hid the gym a little harder.
Can’t wait for UFC 67.

This is going to be a great year for MMA fans. The UFC is living up to the promises of bringing the top fighters to the Octagon. Tim must be pretty scared now that he knows his belt is going to be gone soon. I even had to change my cable so can see what the Showtime shows are going to be about. With the UFC going to HBO there will be more none PPV shows than ever before. I just hope they don’t have Larry Merchant calling the HBO fights I hate that guy. This will be the year that the UFC is the dominant promotion in the world. Without Pride getting more sponsers they will probably start loosing more and more of their stars to the UFC. Dana and crew have huge momentum right now that is going to be hard to stop. I’m sure Chuck is a little nervous also, not for the upcoming Tito rematch but to see Rampage in his backyard. I see some titles changing hands this year like never before. Crocop HW, Rampage LH, Silvia may be able to hold on as MW, Sanchez WW and BJ Penn LW if he chooses to move down. This could be the first year every belt has a new champion. It’s good to see more people gaining respect for these athletes and the sucess that MMA is enjoying now. Boxing is dying a slow death but thats their fault they skrewed themselves. Now that MMA is on Showtime and HBO that pretty much nails the coffin shut on the sweet sience. The IFL also has their finals slated for this weekend. The live fights will be Friday but will be aired on FSN Sunday. Hope you all have a goob New Year and we all get to see some good beating this weekend. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for this upcoming year.
the only fight on this card that excites me is the rampage fight serra and lutter dont have a chance in the world and i think were going to in those 2 fights for sure see 2 highlight reel kos
i definitely agree with MAD on some of the titles changing hands this upcoming year but i dont see sanchez beating GSP i think sanchez is an awesome fighter who may be a champ someday but not against GSP, right now anyways. i think st.pierre has the answer for what sanchez brings and i dont think sanchez could win the stand up. liddell vs. rampage. i dont know i cant see rampage slamming chuck on his head but i also cant see chuck slapping jackson around like he likes to do so i guess it a toss up for me. all in all 07 should be good for the ufc and mma in general. let the lime light shine on this great sport!!!
Yeah I know Diego is kinda a long shot for GSP but I’m from Albuquerque, New Mexico and have to cheer on the home town guy. He has come a long way in the last year and a half though.
Heck of a good deal. I’m tired of Tim Sylvia. And I’m sure a lot of die hard UFC fans are. Crow Crop will be the heavyweight champion soon. And they better add more to UFC 67, cause I’m not excited about the title fights. I think the challengers will fall very quickly. The champs, are new champs, and not ready to give up their belt to the “come back kids”…
UFC is on Showtime/HBO? since when? I only know them on SPIKE or PPV. Anyways, whats up with Vera? is he injured or something? I’m surprised he’s gone MIA recently. He was one of the fastest rising stars in the UFC and I haven’t seen or heard a thing about him.
What does everyone think about:
Brandon Vera vs. Mike Bisping?
I really don’t think this particular PPV is worth the purchase. As much as I like Serra as a person, I can’t sit through the torture of watching him fight. It is just too boring. I think it is worth a SPIKE TV Fight Night rather than a PPV. Same goes for that Lutter guy. I can’t believe there are still some guys who fail to acknowledge Pride fighters as being world-class and think that they will lose to UFC guys.
Silva, CroCop, Rampage are all WORLD-CLASS FIGHTERS, so is Chuck btw, which many fail to realize. Fighting in Pride is what really separates the men from the boys and Chuck has been there which kinda legitimizes him. Now that more and more Pride guys will cross the ocean, he and the other UFC “Elite” have to be somewhat concerned.
amir brandon vera is about to to f up his career and fight tim sylvia i heard in ufc 68 or 69 then cro crop will come and destroy them all and brandon vera vs bisping would be an awesome match and did u hear the threat bisping did to the other 205 pounders”they better watch there ****** back”i know he was trying to sound tough but his british accent killed that noise even though i think he is a good fighter that was a one of a couple of funny moments that happened this past ppv
Amir,
Brandon Vera fights heavyweight at the moment, so a fight with Bisping isn’t possible unless Vera drops down to 205. Also, Brandon Vera is going to fight Tim Syliva at UFC 68. He last fought at UFC 65 in November against Frank Mir. Not that long ago…
Dr. J,
Thanks for the great info. I know he fought and destroyed Mir, but I had no idea he was fighting Sylvia next. Is that confirmed? I thought his whole idea was to make 205 @ Chucky boy.
if you go to the ufc web site they have a card for ufc68
Tim Sylvia Vs. TBD
Matt Hughes Vs. TBD
Rich Franklin Vs. TBD
Huh?!?!wierd what does this mean? lets hope they find three good opponents for these fights!!! 68 could shape up to be a good card i hope they put someone in front of sylvia who will take that belt.
Amir and R.J,
Read the new posts from today. Looks like Vera isn’t going to be fighting Sylvia at UFC 68, and Franklin and Hughes opponenents have been named.
LMAO…what the hell kinda card is this? Pat Miletich Fight Night?
They have CroCop listed at 218lb. I guess he really shouldn’t have any problems eventually making 205lb.
Rampage will demolish Eastman. Didn’t Eastman get knocked out by Lutter? That doesn’t say much about the guy if even Travis Lutter can knock him out. If I remember correctly, it was a phantom punch that barely even grazed his chin.
you cant say whos gonna win based on who they beat previously, you need to match the fighter up based on skill, tenacity, age, things liek that. If you wanna compare fights, then eastman already has a win over rampage. That doesnt make him the favorite, but it also doesnt mean hes a nobody. Were talking about an old guy man, and really i dunno wat kinda shape rampage is in these days.
dont count out Eastman! or Lutter, they can both win their fights man.. although theyre the underdogs, theyre both crazy fighters. Eastman might let rampage gas out then catch him with something. If lutter can take silva down, its a whole different game, think about that to all the doubters. They may just surprise you.
For matt serra to win would be a BIG upset, cuz man.. hes a small guy, and GSP is too well rounded, but still.. you never know, it IS a fight after all..
I know it’s a fight and anybody could win…but there are some things which are pretty much guaranteed. I respect Lutter generally for being a fighter and accomplished Ju-Jitsu guy, but I don’t respect the way he fights. I think by the signings of CroCop and Rampage, the UFC is trying to ultimately veer away from a recent period of boring PPVs (prior to 66), embarrasing performances by it’s heavyweight “champion” and Fight Nights along with a very boring TUF season. These new guys are international stars and are a force to be reckoned with, not fighters who take a guy down, keep position and wait for a judge’s decision. I’m glad that management is actively seeking to bring in guys with real KO power, which everyone knows…is what everyone wants to see. I don’t think the UFC can depend on a guy like Lutter or Serra to be theyr’e marketable champion. Tim Sylvia’s clock is ticking and he will surely be gone very soon, I don’t see Franklin regaining his belt from Silva, Hughes will get his rematch with GSP but will fail again. Of course, these are my predictions but…I just think the new guys have completley leap-frogged skill wise over the former champions.
in ufc 68 its meant to be Tim silyvia vs brandon vera. But Brandon Vera contract is only 1 more fight so unless he signs up again with ufc they ant gonna give him title shot cause they dont want new champ go else where that wouldnt look good for ufc. There few organisations after him at moment he hot property…
