Today's Mixed Martial Arts News and Analysis Headquarters

Chris LytleMan, lots of news is being confirmed today about UFC 68, and it now appears that my previous speculation regarding a Matt Hughes vs. Karo Parisyan matchup at UFC 68 was incorrect.

It appears that Matt Hughes will be fighting Chris Lytle at UFC 68, and both fighters have now confirmed and accepted the fight. Hughes is coming off a loss to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 65 where he lost his Welterweight title, and Chris Lytle is coming off a very close decision loss to Matt Serra at the Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback finale.

This seems like a good matchup to me. Hughes obviously holds the distinct advantage on the ground, but Chris Lytle holds the distinct advantage on the feet. With Matt looking like he wants to stand more in more in his last 3 fights, we might see a good fight.

OH COME ON THIS THIS FIGHT IS GONNA SUCK HUGHES IS GONNA WIN THIS ONE… THE UFC JUST WANTS TO MATCH HIM UP WITH SOMEONE THEY KNOW HE WILL BEET… MATT HUGHES IS A COCKY LITTLE PUNK AND IM GLAD GSP KICKED HIS *** LIKE HE DID …

  2. R.J. St.Croix says:

i cant find anything about ufc 68 or hughes vs lytle on the ufc site i dont really believe rumors about the fights till i read them there. but if there is a reliable source giving info thats cool. can someone point me in the right direction to find confirmation of these events that would be awesome

  3. richard says:

matt hughes is still one of the best in the world i dont know y chris would want to fight him he is one of these guys that do great in the smaller shows but when the come up with the big boys they cant hack it and matt hughes is a big boy this is a poor decision on chris lytles part oh and one more thing everyone hating on matt hughes get off it yea hes a ******* but dont deny him that he can fight and that he still gots a chance to beat gsp a good chance so dont count matt out

  4. R.J. St.Croix says:

there should be no doubt that hughes can beat st.pierre…he has! but i think the difference now is GSP has found his groove. go find some older TKO fights with st.pierre he become that fighter again. when he first went to the UFC he almost seem out of his league. in TKO he was the big dog and he looks like the big dog again! i hope to see st.pierre hold that title for a while or at least a few times

  5. devin says:

Once again instead of making good fights the ufc wants to protect
one of there investments and wants money instead of quality fights.
The only reason this fight is happening is because everyone who knows anything about mma knows Hughes will probably take him down in about 2 minutes hold him there beat him for a while pass his gaurd mount him and land punches till big john pulls him off!!!!!!!!
And after this predictable fight is over the ufc will have another money match with gsp/hughes 3 wich will probably be a better fight on the part of hughes but more than likely turn out in the end like there second fight. Gsp is almost impossible to finish and hughes isnt the best person to try and finish him. So instead of putting hughes against either sanchez or parisyian (2 fighters who probably can beat hughes) they put him against poor chris lytle who needs to be fighting on the free shows on spike!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. richard says:

this has nothing to do with this but i read that aleksander is going to fight with his bro on bodogs second show what ever happened to aleksander coming to the ufc?

  7. Zach says:

this fight sucks…lytle is one of the most boring fighters ever…i thought when he lost to serra he should go back to wec, kotc, rotr n ****

  8. Dave says:

This fight is stupid, just like the silvia matchup. Since Hughes lost, he is still technically in top contention for the title. And since St.Pierre has to fight Serra – in what will now probably be at UFC 68 – the next contender for the belt should be Diego Sanchez. I would love to see Sanchez vs Hughes for title contention. And once GSP dispatches of Serra, he should fight Sanchez somewhere around July.

  9. Josh says:

PLEEEEEAAAAASSEE let Hughes fight Sanchez. That will be an awesome f’ing fight.

    F-Hughes….douche.

  10. Sal says:

Hughes vs Lytle will suck, because Hughes vs Sanchez was the way to go. Diego Sanchez has proved over and over that he is unstoppable right now, so Sanchez vs Hughes would have been the way to decide whom is the real #1 contender and next person to get a title shot.

  11. PATRICK says:

I AGREE SAL…. I WOULD NOT PURCHASE A PPV EVENT IF IT DOES NOT HAVE GOOD FIGHTS AND THAT ONE IS SO G*Y… UR RIGHT THEY NEED TO PUT SANCHEZ V HUGHES AND WINNER GETS GSP AND GSP WILL WIN

  12. Stevo says:

Where the UFC went wrong was the idea of the TUF 4 winners getting a title shot. Now they’re stuck with this problem. Diego Sanchez should be fighting GSP next and either Mike Swick or someone else should be fighting Anderson Silva. The UFC has gotta keep it real when it comes to contender rankings for titles. Matt Serra wouldn’t even be close to being a contender if it wasen’t for the TUF show. As for Matt Hughes, he needs to have a fight or two before he would challenge for the title again. Chris Lytle is an easy fight for someone who completely dominated the welterweight division. Hughes should be fighting someone like Karo Pariysan, Nick Diaz, or better yet Diego Sanchez since both have to wait for Serra to lose a stupid idea of a fight.

  13. Dennis says:

I’d like to see Matt Hughes woop Serra’s butt for bad talking him on TUF before he regains his title.

Don’t take this wrong RJ, GSP will again hold the title for a long time after Matt has retired in the Hall of Fame.
